Maelstrom Movie??

So when I was in WDW a couple of weeks ago, I rode Maelstrom (one of my favs!) but the film wasn't playing!!

It made me a little sad, because I just kinda like it, and it's part of the tradition for me.

Does anyone know if it was just down temporarily, or if they are making a new one? Any place to watch it online?

and When was that movie made?? It looks very 80s to me, and that might be part of it's charm to me.

Temporary - though talk of a new movie has been going around for a while. Possibly a projector issue.

You can see a HQ version of it (and flicker free too!) at MouseBits

The Spirit of Norway was made in 1987-88.

I love the movie. It always makes me sad that people can't spare the 5 minutes to watch it, and rush through the doors. It must be quite disheartening for the CMs, too. I guess if it's not "a ride", then people aren't interested.

Same here, I just hate that if you get off at the wrong time you have to sit or stand and wait to get through, wish there was a way to bypass, then all the people standing waiting for the doors to open would actually sit down and watch it. Funny, you have to wait to get out of a ride.

I also dont like how they ask you to go through all the shops to get out, when the exit is literally right at the end of the theater. I guess I could move the rope.

The movie was going last week. The last two times we were there I actually wanted to see the movie but both times we were running late to a dinning reservation. I feel really bad walking through, but like someone suggested there should be another way out.

I talked to some of the cast members when I was there in December who said they don't show it during the weekdays a lot now. They had to staff a extra cm for just that position which was great until they let people bypass it and the theater would sit empty. They still show it on busy days and weekends. It was funny when I asked a CM if I could just go into the theater to watch the film because I had been on the attraction a few days before. It really is a amazing film and while some parts of it are dated overall it has stood up better then most of the other Disney attraction films.

Or you can order it from laughingplace.com...it's the Jeff Lange Remembers World Showcase DVD, and it has 3 versions of El Rio del Tiempo (I don't know how different these versions are, or if he just recorded the same ride during three different trips during different years), as well as Grand Fiesta and Maelstrom. Maelstrom includes the ride as well as the movie at the end. I actually just received it in the mail yesterday and was watching those rides yesterday and today. A little off topic, but the only difference I could see on the different El Rio versions was that in the marketplace scene, in one of the earlier versions, I didn't see the man chasing the woman accross the room like he was in the most recent version. I don't know if that part was added later, or if he just moved his camera to another part of the ride before they got to that part.

You have to pay for it and, according to many posters here, why pay for it if you can download it for free at Mousebits. However, I am one of those old fashioned people who likes to have something tangeable to hold in my hand and watch on my TV in my living room instead of at my computer. And I like to have the cover art and not just some cheap DVD that I burned off of a computer. And yes, I'm willing to pay for that. But that's just me.

I loved El Rio and wanted to be able to watch it and hear that song anytime I want to now that they ruined it with that suckfest that's in there now. And I know that it's only a matter of time until they sucktify Maelstrom the same way, so I was glad to find a DVD where I can watch it anytime I want to as well.

We have to do that because of my wife's asthma. One whiff of that perfume and she has a full blown attack.

My husband has severe allergies. If we even glance at those shops, he starts sneezing and wheezing!! We just "slip" through the ropes. I feel a bit guilty and we refer to ourselves as "Disney Tacky", but it's just not worth feeling yucky.

It's not like we don't spend enough at the parks already! We don't need to be held hostage in the gift shops!!:lookaroun

Welcome to modern Disney marketing...I also hate the idea, I'm also wondering if they actually sell LESS that way because you're less comfortable trying to shop with hundreds of guests passing by constantly.

I like the movie.

Even though I have seen it many time I always watch it.

In my busy daily life I have to rush and cut corners.

On vacation I slow it down and stop and smell the Roses and take time to enjoy things like the movie.

Love the movie (and have gone as far as skipping the ride when busy, just to watch the movie). Love the shop too (though I haven't ever bought anything). And the perfume (no allergies for me); just love the smell and probably the most 'flashback smell' I have of EPCOT.
