Lotso.....

Zummi Gummi

Pioneering the Universe Within!
I'm a grown adult and I'm contemplating kicking him in the shins next week.

The film itself was brilliant, and the last 20 minutes had me bawling, as were most of the adults in the theater. The scene where they all lined up and held hands, ready to accept their fate together...wow. And then that final tableau...just perfect.

It was, in my opinion, the best movie of the year, period.

The hand holding part...tearful...showed how much of a family they were...just like Buzz said in the interrogation room. The very end....even made my 6 year old start to cry. The way Andy cared for the toys and especially Woody....beautiful!! LOVED the movie!

Completely agree. Just thinking about that part has my eyes misting up a little bit right now. What a great movie!:sohappy:

I came to the site this morning looking for this thread! We didn't even finish the movie last night before my husband brought up how odd it is to have Lotso as the meet-and-greet. BUT, I suppose people line up to meet Captain Hook. People line up to meet plenty of villains. I guess we're just feeling the disappointment that this super-cute purple bear wanted to incinerate the TS gang.

BTW, loving the new characters Trixie, Dolly, and Mr. Pricklepants! I want a Pricklepants doll now. And the transition to the new Slinky voice was well done.

Yeah, I thought about that too when my first thought was "Why would we want a pic with a villain?", but villains do have M&G's. I guess for me, a villain who tries to incinerate the TS gang gets an extra dirty look from me! :fork:

I'd still take a pic with him..He's the only Pixar Villian that has a meet N greet. No Hopper, Randall, Syndrome, Stinky Pete, Chick Hicks, or Emperor Zurg...

I think Syndrome once HAD a Meet - n - Greet... I can just imagine people throwing half-eaten churros and turkey legs at Lotso during the Block Party Bash...

Does anyone remember having a real Lotso toy as a kid? Here's an ad from 1983 showing the inspiration for the character.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6dZtNYGlLM&feature=player_embedded

(Actually, this is fake. Disney made this ad, complete with the VHS lines on the screen making it look like something taped from a TV show, as viral marketing for Toy Story 3.)

I think it is amazing how that ad reeks of the 80s when it was filmed a little while ago. When I saw that for the first time I thought Disney had completely ripped off the Lotso design from another company. :ROFLOL:

The minute Lotso appeared on screen, he reminded me of Stinky PEte, and therefore I kinda had a feeling he would turn out to be a jerk. But then he had to go and do one worse. I really thought he would turn his ways during that garbage mincer scene. Then he went and did something that is never forgiveable, at least by rodserling27 standards: He betrayed the entire Toy Story cast of toys.

Death to Lotso.
:fork:

On the subject of the movie itself, I am in my 20s, and I was all welled up during the incinerator scene, and pretty much the last 20 minutes of the whole film. When Andy started playing with the toys and Bonnie, I thought I was going to lose it and burst out into tears. And I thought correct, because it happened. The tears were streaming down my face. I very rarely, repeat, RARELY cry during movies, especially kids films. This one was really something spectacular.

Before I saw the movie I actually had a feeling lotso would be the bad guy eventually!

Haven't seen it yet, but kind of had a feeling he was the bad guy myself - the trailer kind of hinted at it when he was saying something to Buzz trying to get him to leave his friends behind. Couple that with how Pixar likes to turn convention on its head (80something year old man as main character, cute cuddly villains, etc) and it all fit.

Glad everyone thought it was a good movie - though Pixar hasn't done a bad one yet.

Oh man, me too! I wanted to cry so bad right before the aliens saved them and when Andy was saying goodbye to his toys. The suspense was killing me, and the end was just too much. I only held it together because I thought about some of the annoying people in my theater, but man was it tough. TS3 was a great movie, and I'm also in my early 20s so I grew up with Andy and these characters. It was like revisiting some old friends.

But I'm a 20yr old guy and that scene where they all were holding hands almost brought me to tears!

I'm much older than you and I sobbed like a baby in that scene. I can't believe how much emotion those characters expressed. Such a wonderful job done by the story writes and the animators.

And today I was at the bookstore and my daughters wanted to read the TS3 book so I did and I started tearing up at the end when Andy plays with them again.

I am sooo glad I was not the only one bawling like a baby at the end of that movie! It was like the end of an era...I just don't think the ending could have been anymore moving or heartfelt...

Speaking of moving, did anyone else notice that at the beginning, during the train scene, the number on the front of the locomotive was 95? I figured that was a nod to when Toy Story 1 came out and started it all. That was in the first 2 minutes and I almost cried then because I just thought that was such a cool thing to do :)

Video of Lotso in a M&G and parade: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjAfwmaHxDU&NR=1&feature=fvwp

I think the creepiest thing about the M&G is how the character acts. He's in full sweet and cuddly mode, bending down to hug little kids and stuff...but underneath is a heart of acid!!!

Most villain M&G's have the characters act "bad"/haughty/standoffish/mischievous...something to give away their role. Disney's done a good job of protecting Lotso's "secret" in these in-park appearances.

(Or maybe this is the replacement Lotso that Daisy got after losing the first one.) :lookaroun
