Thinking about this overnight I come to the conclusion that some people just like a degree of anonymity. They don't want an AA say their name or their child's name. Don't want a character know who they are. Some may think its cool and that's fine as well. Some of us don't want to trust a large corporation with that much data. I know....I know.....the CC companies....the NSA.....the phone companies etc. etc. Don't trust them either, nor do I trust the government but that's a whole different discussion. The difference is that we up to this point trusted Disney. This gives us a reason not to trust them. It breaks a bond that we once had with them.....that right there is the difference between our experience with the real world vs Disney. Some of you don't see it that way....that's ok. The problem here is that both sides of the issue seem to want to convert the other side. I say....stop trying. It isn't going to happen. It leads to animosity. Drop the issue and let the thread die of natural causes.

P.S. For those who read my response to who is now my favorite poster here at the magic.... I deleted it. Just felt I didn't want to stoop to the same level. Someone drop Mr. Wonderful a note and tell him what I said. Maybe someone screen capped it as well. I am out of this thread......peace.
And you have every right to demand privacy and not use the features and in fact believe they should set up a way someone can select people Fast passes on the day of use without providing any personal information. I know this should be doable.

All those people have to do is opt out of MBs and use the RFID-enabled ticket, instead. No characters will know their names.

You don't have to make plans. No one is forced to use MDE. It's only an option. It is one I think most people will like and in fact have liked based on trip reports I've read on this and other sites. Those of us here are an extreme minority of those who go to either park. Our views are most likely not the same as the vast majority and none of us should take what is said here to seriously. An independent poll of the Disney guests is the only way to really know if it is liked or not and only Disney can hire a company to do that because only Disney knows who the guests are. I expect they have done this and will continue to. Just like universal does with their customers.
No one has to use MDE or FP+, but it's kind of like going to a movie theater and not using a seat. Yes, you can still watch the movie, but you're going to be more irritated than someone sitting down.

no its not, it's like being the guy who waits till he gets to the theater to buy his tickets and has to wait in line, while the person who used fandango walks right in, both get to see the movie one just waited till the last minute to finalize his plans, and thus is more inconvenienced.

I consider both of these to be good analogies.

buying your movie ticket is just one aspect of going to the theater. MDE and FP+ have multiple features that are designed to be helpful, not just one.

I could understand a guest wanting a certain level of privacy but choosing to not use MDE or FP+ just so Mickey wont know ur name is a bit silly. On the other hand, Disney opens themselves up to possible problems as well. Mickeys says the wrong name and looks foolish or there is an error in the system and there is no name to say. There are foolish people out there that will complain to Guest Services how it "ruined their day".

I think we all know rather you are a fan or not of MBs and all that goes along with them that is 100% optional to use the system or not to. Heck it's optional to stop going to WDW altoghter if you really hate them.

But has anyone on here themselves or anyone that they know stopped going to WDW because of MBs? Just curious if it has made them mad enough to stop going.

Under the old system they could grab your data just as easily by reading a magnetic strip, which had the same amount of data on it as the RFID tag provides.

The one difference is that you know when they are reading the magnetic stripe, with the magic band they can read it at any time without your knowledge.

Hasn't disney been collecting fingerprints for years now? Do they keep that on file? Sorry if this is off topic!

They technically don't collect fingerprints. The reader at the gate take measurements of your finger, but they don't collect enough idea to uniquely identify your fingerprint.

A person need not opt out of MDE or FP+ for this purpose. If you simply opt out of the magic band, then you will still get to take advantage of FP+ and the rest of MDE, but Mickey won't know your name.
