If you think Peach hasn’t previously been presented as a “strong woman” then you have long played the games over the last decade.
I’ve played almost every Mario game lmao, that’s not my point. It’s different from the origin. Y’all are not arguing that Snow White is different from her presence in wreck it Ralph 2 are you?

If by "left leaning" you mean that Barbie isn't only allowed to be a nurse or a stewardess like she was in 1962, then yes.

But by the 1970's Barbie could be a doctor or the airplane pilot, too. That's not "left leaning", it's just reality. At least it hasn't been "left leaning" since at least 1980. The Barbie in the Barbie movie is very mainstream, while also poking a bit of fun at everyone on both sides of the spectrum. And still looking fabulous while she does it.

Warner's didn't change Barbie for their movie. But Disney appears to have changed Snow White for their movie.
I mean left leaning as in genitals don’t mean gender. Heck there’s even a trans Barbie

so you agree Barbie is a woman despite her genitals, perfect, that was the point of that.

There was no Trans character in the Barbie movie. The Barbies were girls, the Kens were boys.

There was a Trans actress who played one of the Barbie's, but her character was not Trans and sexuality never came up in the film. Barbie and Ken don't even know what sex or genitals are yet. Because they are Barbie and Ken.

There were also a heckuva lot of gay men playing all those Kens, but in the movie they weren't gay. They were Ken.

I don't know. 🤣

Apparently I'm now reminding people what was actually in the Barbie movie, versus what was not in that movie.

But also reminding folks that the Barbie movie was the telling of the well established Barbie story as we all know it, which is very different from Disney changing the Snow White story into a new story that has different characters, different character arcs, and a different plot. Especially the character arc and plot of Snow White herself. But they're still going to try and call it "Snow White".

The only thing that seems to be the same from the original story is her dress.

It will be interesting to see how the potential paying audience responds to that changed Snow White story.

how do you know that that Barbie isn’t trans or that Allan isn’t gay/queer? I suppose a lot of the left leaning messaging wasn’t made explicit which could be a reason people ate it up. But it’s definitely left leaning and not “centrist” which is my point. The movie is left leaning.

Disney changing the Snow White story into a new story that has different characters, different character arcs, and a different plot
Ok see this is why in the Mario example I explicitly stated Peach was different from her origin and didn’t bring up any of the many many other games in the Mario franchise.

Y’all claim to be Disney Snow White fans and argue this? Disneys Once Upon A time has a different Snow White also, so if you are arguing this you must have not been a fan of Disney Snow White in the past decade.

Y’all aren’t Disney Snow White fans. Y’all are Snow White and the seven dwarfs 1937 fans.
But this isn’t “snow white and the seven dwarfs 1937”

Disney is held to an entirely different standard. Case in point: Greta Gerwig’s involvement in Snow White seems to mean nothing to those who loved Barbie but are determined to hate what Disney’s doing. An opinion has already been formed, and everything must be made to conform to it.
I have seen some circles online complain that Greta Gerwig is a feminist before Barbie came out, but quickly overlooked that once Barbie’s success was too overpowering to fit their narrative

Have you seen the movie? None of us know what is in the movie beyond the lead actress comments

As a gay man, my gaydar went off on Allan immediately in the previews. But then in the actual movie, sexuality was not a part of their world. They literally don't know what it is, which was really clever and not what I was expecting at all.

How do you know Allan is gay? Or how do you know Allan isn't a registered Democratic Socialist who volunteered for the Sanders campaign in 2016? How do you know that Barbie isn't actually from an alien planet? Or that Ken is actually Barbie's step-brother? None of that was discussed in the movie, so none of it is a part of the Barbie movie.

Ok see this is why in the Mario example I explicitly stated Peach was different from her origin and didn’t bring up any of the many many other games in the Mario franchise.

I'm not discussing the Mario or Peach thing because I have absolutely no idea who those people are, or what their plot is. I have only a vague idea that it's from a video game thing? So you'll have to excuse me on that discussion.

It will be interesting to see if Disney can get the audience to accept that, and buy tickets to this new movie about a different Snow White in enough numbers to at least break even on their mega-budget movie.

I have not yet seen Disney's Snow White that releases in March, 2024. I probably won't go see it, judging on what we know so far from official Disney media interviews and information.

The comments from the lead actress were pretty clear. She will not be saved by the prince. Instead, she is on a leadership journey to become the woman her father wanted her to be by being honest, fair, brave and true. Also, there are no Seven Dwarves in this movie because Peter Dinklage complained. Instead, there are seven other characters apparently called "the bandits" who steal from the rich to give to the poor and look like 2023 Portland baristas going to a RenFaire.

There is, however, an Evil Witch/Old Hag character played by Gal Gadot. And Snow White still wears the same dress as she goes on her leadership journey in the forest.

That's what we know so far. I expect by the time PR ramps up for this film late next February, Disney will have completely retrained and reset expectations with Rachel Zegler on how to deliver her Talking Points. I doubt they can change the movie much now as it appears to have finished production and is now in editing, plus there's still an Actors and Writers strike so they can't rewrite or restage any scenes.

But it will be interesting to see if the movie is changed as much from the original plot as Rachel Zegler said it has. And interesting to see if audiences in the free market willingly go out to see this new version.

I’ve used Once upon a time several times as an example of how to properly retell a new story with existing characters. But it’s not called Snow White, it’s a different name so people expect a different story.

I’ve also used Cruella multiple times as another example of how to set expectations, had they called it 101 Dalmatians people would have expected a retelling of the original. Maleficent is another example. This is the first case where Disney is using the original name to retell a completely different story.

I’ve also commented that had they called it something like “The Poison Apple” or some other reference to the movie, but not Snow White, they could have avoided a lot of the hostility because then people would be expecting something new with the old characters, not a retelling of Snow White, Disney created this mess by not being creative enough to come up with a clever new name.

I am expecting something new… otherwise why do the movie if you have nothing new to say.. it is why I don’t care for the Lion King remake…it was a shot for shot remake with nothing new to add…it felt like what was the point

You still don’t know what’s in the movie besides analyzing Rachel Ziegler’s comments and know that the dwarves aren’t in the movie, but it isn’t called Snow White and The Seven Dwarves

Exactly. I really thought the Maleficent 3D preview at DCA was very good. And I thought Cruella was great, and I actually rented it after watching so many clips that YouTube kept suggesting for me. It helped that the time period was right up my alley, and I loved the visuals and styles.

But neither of those movies were Sleeping Beauty or 101 Dalmations. They were different and new.

Perhaps Disney could just change the name of the movie from "Snow White" to something like "The Fairest". That would probably shift people's expectations enough to get a better result from whatever this upcoming movie is that's not really Snow White & The Seven Dwarves.

And then Rachel Zegler can do all the smirky interviews she wants about how her new movie is so much better than the unfashionable and offensive junk Walt released in 1937.

But they didn't rewrite the Barbie story for the movie. They simply told the Barbie story we all know for the movie.

Barbie has been an independent woman who can be anything she wants to be for over 50 years now, and always look fabulous doing it. It was part of her own character arc, if you will, during her first 15 years on the market from 1959 to 1974. There was a huge amount of social change from '59 to '74, and Barbie changed right along with the rest of America. That is her story.

And it's a story that's over 50 years old now, nothing new or earth-shattering about it in the Barbie movie.

From what we have been told about this remake of Snow White from official Disney sources, they have changed her story.
Oh. My. God.
