I really don’t think the public at large is nearly as invested in these things as some of the posters here are.
I think it’s safe to say the vast majority don’t follow Disney like we do, but even if it’s only 10% that saw/heard about the controversy that’s about ten million adults.

It’s not nearly as drastic as 75 million but it’s still a sizable chunk of potential ticket sales that may have been lost due to her outspoken views.

Disney can’t be happy about that.

I think you’re also missing the target audience. Sure there are a good number of adult Disney fans but it looks like this film is directed toward young kids.

If my grandkids see the ads and want to see the movie, my kids will take them. It would be an extremely odd decision to deny them based on some adult nonsense.

I don’t think they are happy about it. They like to avoid controversy as much as possible. But I don’t think it’s going to be what makes or breaks this film.
Zeglers comments alone are just a piece of the puzzle, add in the Dinkler comments, the negativity about the leaked 7 dwarfs / 7 friends photo, the delays, the questionable dwarfs CGI, the mostly negative response to the trailer… I can’t think of any positive word of mouth leading up to the release of this film, it’s been one negative after another, with only a couple months left before it hits theaters that doesn’t bode well for the box office.

Totally agree. The over spending alone will be a big reason SW will lose money.

The deciding factor will be whether the film is any good or not. I dislike what’s been revealed of it thus far, but bigger surprises have happened.
100% agree, if they can put out a great finished product and make the $ half billion (or whatever) it’s going to take to turn a profit from this debacle I’ll never badmouth Disney studios again, it would be the greatest recovery ever.

I’m guessing if they can minimize losses to even $100 million they’ll consider it a huge success at this point.

This is a sincere question, but what elements of the trailer are pandering? I just rewatched it, and you would never guess from it that the film is going to be anything other than a faithful retelling of the cartoon, complete with familiar costumes, woodland animals, and the Seven Dwarfs.
There is nothing pandering or political at all about the Snow White trailer. All of the political controversies surrounding the new Snow White movie are due to circumstances surrounding the cast and creatives. All of the discourse the past few years about the movie have revolved around:

1. Peter Dinklage saying the dwarfs in the original movie are offensive and Disney changing the dwarves. This sparked a backlash from many feeling this is an example of political correctness run wild and backlash among real life dwarf actors who are upset that they now don't have a chance to act in these roles since Disney opted to create CGI abominations instead.

2. Anti-Israel/anti-zionists and progressives not wanting to support the film from Gal Gadot, who is from Israel and was in the IDF, as they feel it would be an endorsement of the attacks on Gaza.

3. Pro-Israel people not wanting to support Rachel Zegler for her support of Palestine

4. Fans upset that Zegler initially seemed somewhat criticial/dismissive of the original 1937 classic (I think her comments were blown way out of proportion)

5. Conservatives mad that Zegler wished all Trump supporters never know peace

6. Disney fans and film fans growing increasingly sick of the trend of live action remakes, feeling they are creatively bankrupt and a lazy cash grab.

I don't see how the movie could possibly overcome so much pre-release negativity from so many different sides. Even if it were a masterpiece (unlikely), millions of people are dead set on hating it no matter what due to external factors.

She actually apologized for saying those words and explained that she let her emotions run away with her.

Seems that she would be a good role model for young children on how to handle things when they make mistakes.

There are many adults I know who lack the maturity to apologize even when they know they are wrong.
Wow,...just read Zegler's apology. Good job Rachel!

Alright, thank goodness that mess is over with. I'm glad the runway is now clear for takeoff.

It's good for Burbank to get those petty, little, pesky PR things out of the way.

The movie should be good to go now.

One thing I'm curious about is the role of the love interest. The prince was in the original film for an exceedingly short time.

Going from a very short film to a longer, live-action version is going to be interesting in and of itself. Characters are going to have to be expanded.

That would be perfectly fine and in fact that’s where I plan to watch it.

But we’re talking about people who are deciding whether or not to go to the theater to see it.

Of course, if the parent is lying about why they won’t take the kids to the theater to see the movie, that’s their choice. It’s not one I would recommend for numerous reasons.
Yes, in this hypothetical, the parent is lying about why they won’t take the kids to the theater to see the movie.

I think it was Walt that said, "its the parents that have the money" or something like that.

I tried to Google it, but since Google is no longer an actual search engine, no luck.

I’m sure she really means it.

It’s very unlikely from her previous comments that she is a hate filled radical.
