Plus she's lacking the innocence of the animated version, so how is she going to be naive enough to believe in a "magic wishing apple" from a creepy old lady and bite into it?
And let her in again even after express warnings if I recall. At that point it’s no longer “innocence” and likely wouldn’t play in a live-action film.

I believe it is probably a case of certain YouTube ragers trying to create an anti-Disney narrative and then their followers spreading their message
Now that they’re seeing something different, the narrative is that Disney responded to the nerd ragers by firing Rachel Zegler, adding dwarfs and re-shooting the entire film. Except there’s still Rachel Zegler 🙃

As I see it, there are only two problems with this trailer ... but they are BIG problems. First, the dwarfs look like they are in the wrong film because they are CGI and not humans. Swap in the 2024-equivalent of the cast of Time Bandits and that problem would have been solved easily.

Second, there isn't a universe where the actress playing Snow White is in the same league as Gal Gadot. By conventional beauty standards, there is no comparison. Which is a big problem because the conceit of the film is that there is now a person who is clearly more-beautiful than the queen - it's the inciting incident of the story.
I absolutely will not weigh in on Gal vs (anybody else) other than to say, “____ should be prettier than Gal Gadot” is an impossibly high - if not impossible - bar to clear. It’s an unfair comparison to anyone, in any universe or time.

What if the “feminism nonsense” is still there - along with Rachel Zegler? What if they didn’t completely re-shoot the film co-written by Greta Gerwig?

Makes one wonder if Disney isn’t just making the film it wants for its intended audience, which is unlikely to go into extended analyses of “conventional beauty standards.”

Word will spread quickly and half the country will avoid it and everyone at Disney will sit around and publicly pretend like they don't understand why it lost a ton of money.
I think that’s already going to happen, this film has had more bad press and negativity surrounding it than any other film I can recall, unless the word of mouth is so good it overrides all the previous press I think it’s already beyond the point half the country will ever give it a chance.

ETA I chuckled when I saw the promo this morning, either they completely changed the movie or they are purposely misconstruing the story to trick people into seeing it, nothing in the trailer looks at all similar to what the actors said about the film in previous press statements.

I think you’re far over-estimating the number of people who know or care about early publicity.

I'll bet the average person doesn’t have this on their radar screen and the first they’ll see or hear of it will be the trailer, which looks great.

Certainly possible, it’s easy to forget we’re a very small minority on fan sites that actually pay attention to this stuff.

To my (admittedly gay) eyes, Gadot is beautiful in a sultry, womanly way and Zegler in a more innocent, girlish one. That’s pretty much exactly as it was in the original film, which I thought would please the “Make it a faithful adaptation” brigade.

In any case, my understanding is that the remake is going to place less emphasis on looks in its definition of “fairness” anyway. In the original film, it’s already implied (or at least inferable) that Snow White’s superior loveliness is in part a reflection of her virtues and goodness.

Haters are going to hate… from what I have seen so far…. Rachael Zegler is perfectly cast… she looks great in the costume plus we already know she is a fantastic singer so she should be able knock the songs out of the park

I would expect some changes/expanding of the story…. There really isn’t much to the original Disney classic…

The movie is very retooled. It looks reasonably a faithful adaptation.

I will say Rachel comes together in song. Whistle while you work is actually superior to the original, but more ensemble.

I don’t think the CGI is as bad as Mermaid either. But the dwarves are incredibly uncanny valley. Especially Dopey. Not like Flounder by any means, they do resemble the film counterparts. Or like original Sonic… but I think we are going to still hear a bit on how they are off putting.

More beautiful than Gadot?

View attachment 807930

The conceit is that the queen is aging and being surpassed by upcoming youth. She is the fairest, but there is “another” forthcoming. Though Gal will obviously preserve herself in real life. Rachel is certainly pretty and will come off well in song.

Outside of this thread, if this movie has problems, it will not be Rachel from what I saw. It’s going to be the dwarves. Or potentially Gal if she is too Wooden.

Remember when everyone thought the 7 ”friends” were a replacement for the 7 dwarfs, but really it’s coming out that they are the princes friends / bandits?

Giving both Snow and her love interest a group of friends? (thats what the online chatter for why those 7 characters are in the film seems to say, and apparently that was always the plan)

Just watched the trailer. It looks like a safe remake in the same mould as most of the other live-action versions. I was hoping for something a bit different; perhaps the final product will deliver that, even if the trailer doesn’t suggest it will.
