It took months before some on TLM boards started attacking Halle Bailey for her unique appearance and look.

It’s hard to say because the “main thread” was in the now defunct Politics forum. That makes no sense because TLM is a movie. What could they have been discussing about politics?

Agreed, discussions about money losing movies should be in a financial or shareholder thread.

So money discussions should be in the financial thread and discussions about the movie should be in the thread dedicated to talking about the movie. Makes sense, but no one seems to follow that simple directive.

A film’s box office is one of the biggest aspects of a film’s reception in the entertainment press. Deadline gives constant updates upon a film’s release over a given weekend as to how it performed. Studios often herald the film as the “#1 Movie in America” days after its release. It’s very germane to these discussion.

Still doesn't explain why the main thread for TLM was in the Politics forum, does it? You were the one who brought up TLM in this thread and I don't understand why.

Interestingly, there’s no mention of dwarfs in the title or announcement. That doesn’t mean they won’t feature in the actual film, of course, but given the fuss that’s been made about Disney’s replacement of these characters, I would have expected any ideologically driven rival version to focus on the dwarfs’ restoration.

A films box office results should absolutely be talked about in the main thread of any film. Unfortunately there hasn't been a whole lot of positive on the box office front so the negative is the dominant voice. The little mermaid is a great example. There was 2 threads. One for talking about the film, and one discussing box office. The thread talking about the movie as a whole, died almost instantly, and those people jumped into the box office discussion thread to complain about talking about box office.

It's only after the film came out that it became inundated with posts celebrating its underperformance by those who hadn't seen it. A spoiler thread—what you misleadingly describe as the one "for talking about the film"—was created in May 2023. Those of us who wished to continue posting about the film in the main thread, against the tide of all the box-office discussion, were told that we should limit ourselves to the spoiler thread, even though we weren't sharing anything that would conventionally be thought of as spoilers.

Am I weird because it took me a minute to deduce that TLM was "The Little Mermaid" and instead reflexively took it to mean "Traditional Latin Mass"?

While you are correct about the 2 threads, my point still is 100% accurate. The main thread was started long before the movie released, obviously. Then the spoiler thread started at release. That's all accurate. The spoiler thread became the defacto place to talk about box office. That made the people who wanted to just talk about the movie mad. Mom came in and said stop posting box office in the spoiler thread and keep it in the regular thread. So that's what happened. And guess what? The people who where so upset about the box office discussion, actually didn't want to talk about the film. They migrated over to the other thread. After just a couple of days the spoiler thread was 3 pages back.Sorry, but this just isn't accurate. Was there some disingenuous box office posters? Of course. But let's not forget that some of the people scolding others because they haven't seen the film, didn't see it themselves. So it goes both ways. If the box office talk was because the movie was doing fantastic, conveniently it wouldn't have been a problem I bet.
