Little mermaid ride video!!

1. The ending is way too abrupt. Somone on YouTube mentioned it makes Ursula looks like the hero by making Arial a human and living happily ever after. I really think they could've gotten more creative by wrapping up the ending better.

I agree, if you dont know the story, Ursula seems like she was of great help to Arial.

idk if it was mentioned hear, but originally there was a plan for the giant Ursula scene, it was in the same spot(after the kiss the girl scene). the plan appeared to be some forced perspective, with Ariel in the foreground sitting on a rock watching eric stabbing Ursula in the far back. it seems it was cut due to budget, but it was in some illustrations as well in the ride model in the blue sky cellar. hopes that this scene will be in WDW!

i will look for some pictures

if you look at 2:30-2:50 in this video you can get some what of a feel of what this scene would look like. lets hope WDW gets it!!

Not an issue at Disney, where the assumption is that people are not interesting in seeing something new at the DisneyParks®, only what they already know.

So your saying they should have created new scenes for the Little Mermaid strictly for the ride??

The percentage of people who ride Ariels Undersea attraction who truly have never seen the film is probably so extremely low I don't see a reason for Disney to feel obligated to show every detail concerning the story.

Well done

For a colorful, family centric attraction, it is very well done and lively. That should help keep pace and mood very positive through the expansion. As much as I love the "classics", I love Walt's intent of progression more as it gives Imagineers an opportunity to enhance or extend classic stories. So I find this a nice upgrade to Fantasyland in general.

That said, I will say I too think the end was a little rushed. It seems so well done and I can see the care put into it. So I think a bean counter somewhere should get a hand slap for not upping the budget just enough for a more slightly more grand scene finishing off Ursela. I'm not thinking some huge Yeti-esque animatronic, not at all. Actually perhaps the storm-battle scene could have been a transitional scene with wind, little lightening flash & thunger, and a brief battle projected onto a vapor waterfall (ala Pirates). With the vaper off the path (looking at it and not riding through it), they could have done quick transformations from clear sun to storm battle and back literally in seconds and added just enough detail to feel more closure to the story. But hey, it's easy to be an Armchair Imagineer when my blank paper has no time or budget constraints!

Overall, great job to the WDI. I know we'll love it when it arrives in Florida! :sohappy:

My point is that Scuttle makes a point at the start that Ursala is an evil woman. We meet Ursala, she sure seems evil, but Ariel gets her legs and is happily ever after. Therefor, Ursala was a blessing to Ariel. There seems to be a major gap in the story that they attempt to tell with a "screaming" Ursala and a glowing ball leaving Ariel's vocal box.

The ride and track is identical between Disneyland and WDW. The exact same track layout is being installed in the WDW building, only the exterior of the building will be different at WDW.

What you see at DCA in 2011 is what you get at WDW in 2013.

Actually the good thing about this ride opening in CA before FL is that they will be able to see what works and doesnt work and make adjustments accordingly. For example I am hearing that the Under the Sea section is too bright.....that is something that could easily be altered possibly for the FL version. I dont expect any new scenes to be added to remedy the mistake of brining the ride to such an abrupt finale but little things like lighting and staging we may just see corrected the second time around.

I remember watching the ride video for Expedition Everest before I rode it and it kinda ruined it for me. I like the excitement you get before going on a brand new ride which you know very little about. Its for that reason I didn't watch any videos of Harry Potter before riding and I was blown away. If I'd seen a video of it beforehand then I know I wouldn't have been so freaked out by the Dementors, which would totally have taken away from the experience. The first time you experience a ride is a great memory; the first time watching a video of someone else riding on your computer screen is a lot less memorable. Thats why I'm not gonna watch the TLM video, and why I haven't looked at many of the Star Tours photos...

i think it is totally possible that they could use the originally planned big Ursula scene that I mentioned above in WDW

I may be overreacting a smidge, but that video brought me to tears. I think this is truly Walt Disney Imagineering's greatest initiative in years, and I believe that this is certainly Disney's best fairy tale dark ride.

Disney is back.
i think we have truly entered an imagineering revolution with much more to come in the future :D

Just broke down and watched the video.

Ummm....yeah.:lookaroun

It's.....cute.

Better than Pan or Snow White. I guess better than MK's Pooh.

Honestly I think I like the look of the building better than the ride inside...

I cannot wait to go on this!!!! I love the Ursela AA, but the Ariel ones look a little weird. I love how scenes from the movie are depicted using AA's and also real scenes are shown in Ursela's ball. Watching this clip makes me want to go find and watch The Little Mermaid I have on VHS.

I hope that the WDW one is not exactly the same..then i have nothing to look forward too!
and i think the ariel in the under the sea scene with the twirly hair, just looks stupid. it looks like red ice cream

Great ride! Looks like it might require a lot of upkeep-I mean, at some point eventually when its not so new one of us will ride it when the Ursula AA isnt working right or something else will have worn down, etc. Hope little hiccups like that wont diminish the experience

Ride looks really nice and enjoyable. I agree that the exterior of the building, particularly at night, may be even better than the ride. Still, tweaking may really improve the ride experience. I think that the Magic Kingdom ride's exterior will be even more impressive with the water features and rock facades. I am trying to hold off on a DL/CA visit until next year to scoop up the Cars Land expansion, in particular Radiator Springs Racers.

Agreed. Judging from the model, it looks like they still built the room it was supposed to go in, but instead made it into the tiny Ursula/steps-window thing with Ariel and Eric. So if WDW's track is the same, we'll still have that room, but hopefully it will be put to better use.

The lack of a real Ursula defeat is really my only qualm, along with conehead Ariel and a few other slight things.

The other thing I realized is missing: a scene with Ariel and Eric before Kiss the Girl. And I've known that there wasn't one for ages, but I'm just now noticing how there's kind of a giant hole in the story (besides the Ursula thing). Ariel on the beach with Eric after she saves him is kind of (incredibly) iconic. In the ride, Eric just kinda shows up at the end and it's like 'oh, hey, who's that guy?...'

I would also expect those things to change at DCA, as they already have been over the last week. CM's who rode it last week are reporting this week that the lighting throughout the ride has been dimmed noticeably, and that several new projection effects showed up between the start of CM previews and the end of CM previews, for example.

Remember gang, this is the very first amateur video taken from the very first two-hour window of soft openings they did for the very first time for the public yesterday morning. They ran the ride for about three hours on Thursday morning as the very first soft opening, and then shut it down for the rest of the day. A regular at Micechat was there and got that video we are all using now. DCA hasn't even begun the Annual Passholder Previews yet; those start next Tuesday.

Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure officially opens at DCA next Thursday after a grand opening ceremony and media event that morning. They'll continue with soft openings and AP previews off and on until then. And WDI will continue playing with lighting and projections and special effects.

The animatronics and physical sets are baked in though, not much you can do with those.
