All I'm really thinking is new facades for Frozen theater, Mermaid theater, and Disney Junior, along with some basic beautification of the hub area (yes no hats please). And maybe some minor adjustments to how it connects to Echo Lake. Just something to move away from the giant studio "boxes" being seen everywhere.
The lead up, Hollywood Blvd, and the Chinese theater, are indeed perfect.
I expect the Mermaid theater and Disney Junior facade changes (or building removals) to be part of the eventual Animation Courtyard redevelopment project.
I think the Hyperion (Frozen) Theater is
mostly OK, though I realize the south half is indeed weak, as is the adjacent Mickey Shorts Theater. Honestly, while both of those buildings could certainly be better,
I just don't trust current Disney to do something that would be in keeping with the area's aesthetic rather than being visually jarring and messing up sightlines a la old-school Universal additions. It's possible they could manage, though, as I think they largely did with Grand Avenue (but even 2017 seems like "another era" compared to some recent decisions).
Once Monstropolis comes online (removing the Studio 1 Store with its half-finished facades that reveal a box, and adding full facades to the M*V3D building's box sections), the remaining areas that really have the "box" problem will be: Commissary Lane, Animation Courtyard , and the area east of Toy Story Land's main entrance. I suspect the first and third of those may last a while without much change, unfortunately, though I hope to be wrong...
I actually think the Star Tours facade remains the park's biggest offender: now that they've removed the indications that it's supposed to be a movie set, it just looks like they completely cheaped out and just half-finished everything (again, like old-school Universal really did do in their parks). I've literally seen people in the queue look at the back of the AT-AT and say things like "wow, they didn't think we'd look behind us?" It's an embarrassment to the Disney name more than any other facade issue in the park, IMHO.
