Leaky Tiki Watch 2018

As of this past Saturday 06/02 they were still gone. Boxes still in place. Guests still not noticing.

I'll panic when it's been a year ;) how long was the Rhino gone from JC? They don't exactly rush these things and we don't know what they're doing with them.

Yes, nothing to be nervous about yet. Sometimes these things take time. We have no info as to amount of refurb needed on them. Where they fall in the schedule of stuff being worked on backstage (Central Shops perhaps), etc.

Curious, how do you know the guests aren't noticing? If guests have never been to MK, they wouldn't know there is supposed to be anything more than boxes there. If they are like most of us and know, they can't do anything about it. Those that are more into the scene realize the box is there to safely cover the plumbing & bases while the Tikis are refurbished.

Admittedly, I miss the Tikis. I know they are due back at some point in the future, but I think they are a subtle scenery touch and a great little splash pad for the kids.

Just joking about guests not noticing. Given the relaxing nature of the shot with guests looking at their phones, etc.

Exactly. I know we all monday morning quarterback them but we don't know any details. It may not be a high priority. Of course they have a habit of taking away water features and other things so I understand why some panic, it's hard to trust them.

But if they weren't coming back, the boxes would be gone. IMO.

I really love to people watch at the parks. And it's fairly sad to see the amount of people attached to their phones. Personally the last thing I want to be doing in the parks is texting a million different people and talking on the phone, etc. Leave me alone and let me enjoy myself! lol. When I take a little break, I pull out the phone and look at FP availability, etc. It's been a bit overblown how much you need to be on or use your phone at the parks (YMMV of course, everyone's situation is different).

Sorry, been a long week and I though you may have had a perspective I was overlooking. Now I wish I was less stressed as that's a good one.

I think they should have left the random water spurting through the boxes and label the boxes "Amazon Piranha - DO NOT OPEN". Make the boxes shake a little too. ;-)

When looking at the overall census for a typical day at MK, just what percentage of people do you think would be aware? First time or 20th, would it matter? I have been to WDW 45 times and in MK probably twice that many times and although I know, as we spoke about it, that they had been there, I honestly wouldn't know if they were missing unless someone like yourself were to tell me. Why? Because I tend to prioritize my life. The Leaki's were cute and fit in the area perfectly, but, they were not a big highlight for Adults. I could walk by the area a million times and not even notice if they were missing or not. On the list of important things they don't even make the list. However, in a place that has become known as a place with no places to sit and rest, it is probably better use for the area.

However, for those that are much more absorbed in the Disney mystique I'm sure that when the decision is made to not return them ever, the world will stop rotating and we will all go flying off into space. So we will know immediately. In the meantime, relax, fix yourself a nice hot cup of Chamomile Tea, put on your favorite CD of Pavarotti and chill.

Is it me or do they look like Toontiki's?

Will they not rest until all of the MK looks like the Splash & Soak Toddler Zone?

Obviously colours fade over time so a refresh always comes out lighter than the same object just before restoration. I might be mistakem, but the colour of these tiki's, too, seems to have been not the result of that but of deliberate choice over time for a brighter colour scheme.

Subdued colours feel more profound, more authentic. Over the years the MK has gotten brighter, lighter, more cartoony, in a mistaken bid to make it more 'fun', or more carnivalesque. But the Disney difference is that their theme parks do not, in fact, look like theme parks.
