How does that saying go? "Go something.....Go Broke" 🤣

Buzz Lightyear was one of Disney's best characters. This movie really taints his brand. It could hurt merch sales long-term. Probably a bad Idea to keep ruining the legacy characters.

72 people out of 1,200 employees laid off at Pixar.

That's not how you consolidate.

And the 7,000 is pretty much done.

A merger of DAS and Pixar would have several hundred redundant execs and managers and other personnel laid off.
I bet there was some “independence” clause written in to the Pixar sale agreement. Jobs/catmull weren’t idiots.

They were coming off a feud with Eisner…think they trusted Bob completely?

Seems like an odd move to dismiss the creative team in charge. The reviews from critics were generally really positive; it seemed to me like the movie's financial disappointment was more just a result of poor marketing and the culture war blowing up, rather than any creative failure.

I wonder why they thought a firing was needed, especially with such long-time employees.

The film was slow and boring. There was nothing especially “woke” about it beyond a fleeting gay kiss, which had no impact on the overall plot. Not everything needs to be framed in terms of the “culture war”.
I think the kiss was a minor factor also, I still wonder if it would have done better had they brought back Tim Allen, people generally don’t like change, even if the new actor is very popular.

You were quick! ;) I rethought my work choice and edited my comment a minute later. Still, 74% is better than a lot of Pixar's track record lately... better than Elemental is doing, for instance.
That’s not true either. Most of Pixar’s recent films have been rather well reviewed (around 90% or higher), with Lightyear and Elemental being the only exceptions.

Something like that, but I don't think we should go there right now. My only concern is the future of Pixar is in jeopardy.😢

I wouldn't say that Pixar is in jeopardy its only 75 people (sad as it is they lost their jobs) out of like 1200, so calm down.

Iger telegraphed these type of cuts would be happening across all the studios, so its not surprising it happened.

As mentioned in another thread Pixar will continue to be around no matter what happens in the future. Its too valuable to Disney as its considered one of the core brands within the company.

Okay. At least I’m trying to avoid saying it’s the end of Pixar.

1. Nobody said anything about “the end of Pixar”. That’s Irish lighting the building on fire and then joining the fire department in consecutive sentences.
2. Their films still need to do much better. That’s a fact.

I know that. I'm just saying that I'm trying not to say it's the end of Pixar, because I know that's not the end of Pixar or Disney.

1. No one is lighting anything on fire. I suggest you go look at the Elemental thread for the references to "the end of Pixar" based on critic scores on the film.

2. I agree Pixar, and all of Disney films need to do better. However some of that is out of the hands of Disney, and rather in the hands of the audience.

Who said anything about the elemental thread?

There were threads saying “galactic starcruiser” was amazing. But who cares?

And that Wakanda was gonna make $1.5 bil or even $2 bil…they were only off by $750-1.25 bil
Relevancy?

Don’t blame the audience for bad product reception. That’s the textbook deflection from reality around here.

You can do better. Praise and criticism for TWDC is usually earned. The customer is “usually” right. Like it or not.
