Lights of Winter not being displayed this year (2009)!?!

I'm pretty sure I saw the arches backstage when I drove down Woodpecker Lane a couple of weeks ago.

So the question is, where they just in storage there - being disposed of, or getting ready to be put out.

The arches ARE just off the road on Woodpecker Lane (I'm down that road every night). They store them there year-round. I believe when they pull out the F&W buildings (that are stored in the same area) they will pull them out of storage.

Over 50 posts of diatribe on political correctness and finances of Disney based on arches not being in their previously used staging area in a parking lot?

:brick:

I agree, but let's hope we're all wrong! Anyone have any real contacts within Epcot or the holiday department that could confirm/deny this?

Waaaaiiiiit a sec. FaWF is still on, right? That might be delaying the installing....

Hopefully they're just a bit behind this year and the LoW will be making an appearence. There is no logical excuse as to why they would not be put up this holiday season.

It's more than just that.

1. There has been no mention of it in any of the WDW press info put out this year.

2. There is no sign of the arches in the Epcot parking lot (they are usually there at this time being staged ready for the install).

3. Info I can't post.

I just checked and they are being painted to be made show ready. I didn't see them myself, but I just checked with someone at Epcot. Feel pretty confident in that information.

Hopefully, everyone will be able to take a breath and relax.

That's the only part that adds sense to this...

On the face of what I've read thus far, it's speculative at best. If you have info you can't share, I guess I'll take your word.

Yep. I've been able to confirm that some of the cast have been told that they will not be installed this year. There is also no mention of Lights of Winter in any of the WDW Holiday marketing materials, nor is Lights of Winter mentioned in any of the internal cast information.

However, there can always been a change of plan.

While I think the loss of the lights would change the overall holiday landscape of Epcot, I do think that this is a but premature. There is no one here who has come up with a valid reason why those lights might not be in the parking lot. So far it has only been speculation because they aren't where they normally are. There could be numerous reasons for this that people here haven't thought of...

-Food and wine festival doesn't end until this weekend. Maybe they are holding off on putting things in the parking lot with the crowds they are expecting from this weekend.

-The lights are being stored somewhere else instead of the parking lot.

-The lights went through final testing and there were some problems. They needed to be repaired and were delayed getting to their staging area.

As you can see, there are some things that could play in to the lights not being in their usual location. I wouldn't worry unless you don't see them up in a few weeks as the other holiday decorations around the park are put in to place.

Okay.... *inhales*....*exhales* Thanks for the info; this is somewhat reassuring. Let there be lights this holiday at Epcot! :)

Very much hoping there has been a change of plan, because I'm getting more information that Lights of Winter have not featured in the plans at all for this year.

Well, there goes any optimism I had...:(
Ends today or yesterday. Move out is this week during 3rd shift.

Last day of Food and Wine is today.
*Hopefully* that's a factor.

They were on Woodpecker Lane as of Thursday night. Also the 2 large trees used in the park are at the back of the cast parking lot. Other decor is on property backstage as well. Once F&W is moved out the decor will be phased in.

There have been rumblings that it WILL NOT happen...:(

Someone said something about the lights not being part of a "green initiative" or something to that effect...

Yeah...like the Osborne lights are real GREEN

(I'm not rolling my eyes at you, WDW Vacationer, but at Disney's reasoning.)
