Lightning Lane at Walt Disney World

On one hand, they seem to want the "once in a lifetime" visitors more than the repeat customers. On the other, they want those "once in a lifetime" visitors to buy into DVC so they can visit at least once a year and provide Disney with a nice chunk of cash up front. They need to find a balance between giving the "once in a lifetime" visitors a reason to come back and/or tell their family and friends how great WDW is at the expense of the loyal repeat customers vs. focusing too hard on the loyal repeat visitors like DVC and APs at the risk of making first-time visitors not want to return. Since the ability to purchase the 2nd-tier AP (when available, that is) is a "perk" for DVC owners, screwing over APs with delayed G+ access isn't a sound strategy for generating more DVC sales.
Interesting paradox isn’t it?

Eisner loved the concept of DVC…Iger must have thought if was a bad deal for Disney and jacked the prices associated with it into oblivion…chapek appears to believe he’s being robbed at gunpoint by it

The Bob's are addicted to price increases while cutting back on experience.
It has nothing to do with “experience”…and hasn’t since anyone named “Bob” has been in charge. That ship sailed into the west

you know how I know? Both used “experience” over and over again to torture their customers. Sure sign.

it’s a numbers outfit for day traders now…with a fancy logo.

what did Roy say? “Soulless and rapacious”?

Roy did say that, and it's as true today as it was then during the "Save Disney" campaign. I just used "experience" because it just encompasses everything they've cut back on over the past 15 years. They overuse so many words now, they don't know what they mean anymore.

I would argue Chapek loves the DVC base as it has allowed him to cut back experiences and increase prices because he has such a captive audience. Where else are they going to go with all of their DVC points?

In my mind, DVC is to theme parks, as the dinning plan is to restaurants.

You have a point…I’ve thought that many times. But that’s a “deep dive” as compared to my superficial clown jokes 🤡

I looked a fair amount into DVC as my family seems to make it to Disney at least every other year... then I realized I would be vacationing at Disney in 49 years regardless of the ticket prices or the quality of the theme park...

For the first 20 or so…it wasn’t like that. Which is why I openly question anyone recommending it now without substantive reasoning.

this ain’t your parents DVC…
(Which I have a feeling most people that talk about how “amazing” it is currently are still using their parents)

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
…they aren’t even bothering to hide it. That is impressive to me.

they froze the AP program…which was 40+ years old in WDW…and didn’t bother to even give a standard 40 word made up excuse. And people have gone along with it for 2 months already. It’s impressive.
I’m betting that Disney is planning on only selling annual passes during maybe a couple of months a year and super duper upcharging them... with the “you can only purchase your AP during this month!” as a marketing strategy for folks to storm the website.

Any stats on DVC members getting out of their contracts?
Seems like it isn't too hard to sell them. Disney keeps upping the price on direct points which is making the aftermarket much more appealing to a lot of people. The problems will start if they finally do enough damage to push people away and kill any chance at new life long fans. Here’s hoping they get it together before that happens.

No clue…

DVC owners are super loyal Disney customers…don’t forget…

they had a good deal for a lot of years…and have only really been **** on for a couple…so the holding pattern is likely in play
I'm still waiting for the "no AP discount" revolt. We are absolutely ed about it. Even my wife, who loves going, has asked the question - Is it even worth it anymore? - more than once in the past year.

That’s already happened and it went off with little whimpers…

that was tactically brilliant move. You yank that when almost the whole membership was sitting on 2 years worth of points and in forced Disney detox from a virus…

Nobody was gonna notice. Went off like clockwork

Right of first refusal is 1000% pro Disney here. They can block sales for any reason…including if they detect a dump. They also fix prices…which is ironic because DVC diehard defenders claim that the price is “market”…which isn’t true academically due to the price fixing.

True. They have been buying up a ton of resale this year driving up prices at a couple of different resorts. Can't have things getting too cheap or it makes direct points look even more absurd.

Either way, at the end of the day, doesn't matter if Disney steps in and takes the contract or it is sold through. The person selling still gets a check. At least for now, after Bob is done with the place, who knows.
