Liberty Tree Tavern Character Dinner

Characters good.
Characters are good outside of restaurants, not in them.
Adding characters ruins the menu, raises the prices, and makes it impossible to have a nice, quiet meal at a sit-down restaurant.

Free dining plan good! (most expensive item on the menu)
No. Free dining plan good for some people not others.
Raises the prices for those not on the plan, leads to reduced, dumbed-down menus, and makes it nearly impossible to eat at most restaurants on short notice, much less as a walk-up.

Evil character meals. Evil dining plan.

....

Would you include Chef Mickey's, Lee?
It seems to be set up just for the purpose of meeting Mickey, Goofy, and the others.

Tks.

To all of you nay sayers out there.

1. You do not have to get in the meal plan, last time I checked the USA was still a free country.:hammer:

2. Character dinning is an excellent opportunities for kids to meet their favorite characters without the queue and the eat.:sohappy:

3. You have excellent restaurants at the world without characters

4. I think you may want to switch to universal.

Got to chime in...
Character dining (outside of Crystal Palace) is evil, vile and ought to be banned.:fork:
That is all.
Thank you.

thank you for the "single adult male" demographic vote. :ROFLOL:

Character dining when touring the parks with kids (as is most common especially at MK) is very popular with the kids and that makes it popular with the parents.

1. Thank goodness I don't have to get in it.
As I stated above, unless you are a infrequent visitor or one who plans trips and meals six months in advance, it is a huge detriment to dining. I tried to get seating at World Showcase a couple weeks ago, about a week in advance, and was told there was only one table available. One in all of WS. When I asked why, I was told it was due to the folks on the dining plan taking up all the tables way in advance. Dining plan has killed spontaneous dining in Disney parks.

2. True. Character dining has it's place, just not in so many locations. MK would be fine with just Crystal Palace and maybe one other. Not Crystal Palace AND Liberty Tree and definately not at Cindy's Table. The addition of characters has robbed MK of it's signature dining experience.

3. Sure. No doubt. Too bad I can't get into them due to all the Dining Planners taking up all the tables.

4. Insulting. Disney is no exclusively for those with kids or those who use the plan. So yes, I will go to Uni whenever I want...but only when I want. And while there, I will eat at Mythos...a restaurant that puts everything in the MK to shame.

It was not an insult, it was a joke:D

As I said in 1) the USA is a free country, so yes you may what to go whenever you want to Universal.

As for Mythos I was there last April and I loved the decor, as for the food you can do much better, I do not know if you tried but i found Bubba Gump excellent, specially if you like seafood.

Serious question: How hard is it to get a walk up reservation (come back in an hour . . . etc. . . ) with all these 6 month in advance reservations turning out to be no shows?

I agree with you and others who say that booking dinner reservations so far in advance is a detriment to the guests instead of a benefit.

As for character dining, yeah. My complaint is not with character dining, but rather the lack of some seriously nice table service restaurants in non-Epcot parks. Cinderella's castle was good before character dining when the food and the atmosphere of the dining hall were all the entertainment necessary. . . well, that plus MK's most experienced and competent wait staff. :king: Add a signature restaurant to MK, the Studios and Animal Kingdom, leave the character dining as is and that would be fine with me, too. (although I would add back the characters at Liberty Tree - they had been there forever!)

Actually, they have reduced the booking window from 6 month to 90 days.

And even if there were no reservations at all, when the parks are crowded it would be impossible to get a table without long waits, so all in all e rather have the reservations as they are.

Couple weeks ago, I tried the walk-up at several locations.
I got the "Can you come back in x hours?" about 20% of the time.
All other times were just "Sorry...."

I totally agree with your comments about loss of quality table service.
Disneyland has Blue Bayou. IoA has Mythos.
MK has.....ummmm....Tony's? Plaza? Not the same at all.

MK has terrible table and counter service. The place is honestly at the bottom of my list of favorite Disney parks.

We no longer use a Table Service at MK. We do like Columbia House and Peco Bill as a CS. Otherwise we go outside MK for TS.

DHS does have a signature dining, Brown Derby. If it deseves that lable is up for debate, but Disney calls it a signature dining.

Totally disagree with Lee. If I can eat AND get face time for my li'l Slapperina with characters at the same time, as opposed to

a: Waiting on line for an hour (time which could be spent on attractions, shopping, DINING, etc)

or

b: Seeing a character just walking around the parks, interrupting what we were just about to do, then trying to get the same face time with a gaggle of kids, no line, no order, etc.

...guess which one I'm going to choose?

The ONE thing I would say about character dining, however, is perhaps everyone would be better served if they had more character dining options OUTSIDE of the parks, in resort restaurants. First of all, it would result in higher turnover rates in the park restaurants* so more people could be seated. Second of all, it would get people to leave the parks to eat, which might lighten the loads in the parks, with the caveat that many folks would still head back to the parks after eating. Just as, for example, the MK is set up to evenly distribute guests throughout the parks, character dining has the potential to distribute guests throughout the whole WDW resort area. Imagine setting up a character breakfast in Boatwright's at PO-R (which stopped serving breakfast recently), or in Turf Club at SSR (which doesn't serve breakfast at all). Both are ginormous resorts, and I'm sure they could sell out character breakfasts with ease just with people staying within those resorts, let alone all the people at other resorts or outside WDW who'd try to get in. Or imagine some kind of outdoor character BBQ, like at Fort Wilderness, but in the Value Resorts. Getting to see the characters BEFORE going to the parks would result in more time on rides and in shows, feeling like you're getting your money's worth and increased guest satisfaction...

(*and to the OP, THAT'S the reason LTT no longer has character dining; it had nothing to do with the popularity of the characters, and EVERYTHING to do with wanting people to get in, stuff their faces and leave so more people could be seated - and charged for dinner - each night in the same place. Though I for one will miss LTT. Sure it was busy, and we never got seated at the time we were supposed to, but the food was good, the face time was adequate, it was a great way to break up the day...and what the hell, WE always made our ADRs :D )

The Disney Dining Plan has ruined dining at WDW, regardless of whether there are characters or not. Homogenized menus, higher prices (to add perceived value for those participating in the DDP), the need to plan your meals 90 days in advance (or you can't get a reservation), lower quality food, etc etc. It is all because of the DDP. From a company point of view it was a brilliant business move, many of the restuarants fill up months in advance. From my point of view it sucks.

Couldn't agree with you anymore than I already do. DDP is the devil of dining.

You make an excellent point, Slappy. I for one would welcome any plan that gets people out of the parks and out of my way!:lookaroun

And you're right - I'd much rather let the characters come to me while I'm stuffing my face as opposed to standing in line with a bunch of kids who have the patience of a chipmunk on crack.
