Here's some gas for the fire: Anyone who knows baseball knows that Jeter isn't even one of the top 3 shortstops in the AL. Yeah, he's got skills but just because he plays in NY he gets more airtime.

My list:
  • ARod
  • Garciaparra
  • Tejada

And Jeter has more WS rings than those three combined--wait, they haven't even been to a WS yet. Jeter may not have the same skills or talent as them, but he's got what it takes to be a winner and a team player. I'll take Jeter and his October performance on the diamond as opposed to worrying about what time I tee off in the offseason.

Edit: and another thing that doesn't make sense in your post: "he's got skills but just because he plays in NY..." So, as a 42 year old has-been-wannbe, if I go to NY and play ball then I acquire skills because I'll get the airtime. No--Jeter has skills because he's a good ballplayer, whether it be in NY, Tampa, or Kansas City.

Ah, a worthy retort! Indeed, Jeter has the WS rings vs. the others I've mentioned but if one were to start a new team and you had the first pick for Shortstop could you honestly choose Jeter over ARod?

I'm a die hard Sox fan but even I must concede that ARod offers more than Garciaparra. Just as I would choose NY style cheezecake over any other type. (Unless a lowfat one is developed that tastes just as sinful!)

Glad to see we can be civil over this too.

Yes, in choosing a team I would pick A-Rod, but A-Rod should have known or does know now how much he has hurt the Rangers with his foolish contract. I would choose A-Rod if I could build the rest of my team around him instead of him being the team--at least to himself. You know, if he would free up $15 mill a year from his contract, they could compete by being savvy with the dough. And poor A-Rod would "only" play for $10 mill per season. This is not to say that Jeter does not demand a premium salary, but Jeter has been the one of the bunch to have proven himself as a winner/leader so far.

ARod may be a good player, but would you want to deal with his "personality"? Not me. Jeter is humble and honest (and a decent player with some nice rings). Gariaparra would be my #2 choice.

And Andy...I make a delicious almost non fat cheesecake; very little difference.(nothing artificial).

Unfortunately this type of debate will never be resolved in the near future. Comparisons of players who participate in team sports will always have too many variables to consider in any arguement.

Perhaps it can be settled with.............a non-fat cheesecake eating contest!

*grabs a bib*

psst - Nomah is still bettah! :D

What is this world coming to? I am a die hard Yankee fan but would never give anyone a hassle about it. I had a guest come into the store the other night and I told her I loved her Yankee hat, she said she was glad to hear it because she had just come from another store where a clerk verbally abused her choice of teams! My nephew is a freshman at URI (University of Rhode Island) and he said that the campus has gone crazy two nights in a row. The students are destroying campus property setting fires to dumpsters and even turned a car over! Is this team spirit? They riped a Yankee jersey off a students back and burned it!! My nephew is in ROTC and said that he has never experienced anything like this, he was out with his bullet proof vest! He said if the Red Sox make it to the World Series, he is definately not staying on campus. Ok, I have vented enough, I would just be embarrassed if I were a Red Sox fan!!:hammer: :brick:
