Let the job hunt begin...

I can believe it! My parents are selling their house right now and it's just crazy. Luckily, the house market is in their favor.

Ah yes, the wonderful hurricane season, the main reason my husband is dragging his heels and doesn't want to move to FL. I keep reminding him that we probably have more deaths due to winter climate up here than the hurrican seasons down there. Driving in the winter can get down right trecherous and we have snow six months out of the year!

But, what can I expect? My husband is from England where the worst weather they have is pea-soup fog and a few showers. *lol*

Hey MichRX7, are you still around?

I'm very interested in how this all went, but have not been able to get ahold of MichRX7 thru email or PM. Are you still here, or does anyone else know him?

Yeah I am too. His story was a great one and I'd love to hear how it ended up.

1) I am in the same boat.
2) We decided to move to Florida last month.
3) We bought a house, closed today, and will move in August.
4) We will look for work when we get down there.

Wow, you move fast. For our situation, the job's going to have to come first, but the dream is alive and kicking!

Did you check out a lot of areas? I was told the Winter Garden/Ocoee area is nice.

1) We own timeshares in Kissiemmee.
2) We have looked the past two years.
3) We did serious looking in Feb-2005.
4) Flew down in May-2005 to buy.
5) Our Closing papers went FEDEX overnight today. *
6) Should actually move into the house about August-15.

* We are closing somewhat remotely. One does not have to be present to close.

I thought so too. But now I'm wondering if it all fell thru.

Sorry, life dropped me off the boards for a long time. As it stands I am still in Michigan and my house is no longer up for sale. Almost exactly the time I last wrote on the forum my father-in-law had a serious stroke that left him very incapacitated. Since we only live 30 seconds from them my wife and I have had to pick-up some serious duties in helping my mother-in-law attend to him so far now the Disney-living dream is put-on-hold.

On a good note the job I accepted has been marvelous and the company is growing more rapidly than ever and we are about to undergo another major expansion. One our most recent forums was in Paris (last May) and I took my wife and she went to Disneyland Paris with me one day which was a great experience though I wouldn't go again without my boys as it just felt like there was something missing the whole time we were there.

In December of 2006 we are planning on expanding our forums again into Hong Kong which means that the only Disney Park I will have yet to visit at that time will be in Japan. Hopefully with the upcoming raises I will be receiving I'll be able to go to FL whenever I feel like it which should make-up for not living within sight distance of the park. :)

One thing for sure is that family is the most important thing in life. I know my wife would be with me if the same thing happened to one of my parents so it was a no-brainer to put my desire to move on hold for the time being.

Thanks to everyone for their letters of encouragement and support. I hope that those who read this thread in the future know that if you put your mind to something you can make it happen with the right work ethic. I know for a fact had my father-in-law not suffered a stroke we'd be in sunny Orlando for close to a year now.

I have encouraged my company to hold our fall 2008 forum (first open date) in Orlando at one of the numerous WDW hotels that have convention facilities. We deal a lot in sustainability and "clean" technology and with Disney's track record on promoting both of those ideas in my mind it is a no-brainer. Plus having a Disney exec as a keynote speaker on the topic would probably encourage VC attendance.

Wow, great to hear from you. I'm very sorry to hear about your father-in-law though.

Our plans to move down there have been postponed indefinitely. I was actually offered a position within WDW IT. It was a gut wrenching decision, but in the end with the combination of the out-of-sight cost of housing there, and the fact that the offer came in lower than expected, the move just didn't make financial sense. Man it was close though -- we worked with a realtor, had narrowed the location to a couple of zip codes, were pre-approved for the mortgage, had phone interviews with schools, the whole thing. Oh God, I'm thinking about it all AGAIN!!!

Glad to hear the job has worked out so well. I REALLY still need a change there. Hey, let me know if they're ever looking for more help.

Again, great to hear from you.
