My fiance and I are planning a trip for July 13th to the 20th. We are DVC members and have been many times over the past 6 or so years. We are looking to take a slower more relaxing trip this summer and we want to try some new places to eat. I read the forums all the time and everyone seems to love Le Cellier. What makes this place so wonderful? we have never gone there, or really looked around inside, so forgive the ignorance. Also, any other ideas on dining would be appreciated...

We are going there for the first time this trip too. I have heard so much about it and my sister & her family love it too.

Some other places to try:

50's Prime Time Cafe
'Ohana
Coral Reef
Whispering Canyon Cafe

Have a great trip!!

I think the attraction is that it reminds people of a rathskeller, even though it doesn't have German food. It has good food (love the steaks, cheese soup & pretzel bread), but it's a bit close in there. We seemed to be sitting right on top of the next table...still, we will go back again when we can.

If you haven't been to Boma at the AKL I would try that, Whispering Canyon Cafe in the WL for the skillet breakfast (or lunch or dinner :lookaroun ), Yachtsman Steakhouse in the YC or Restaurant Marrakesh in Morraco in EPCOT

The thing that makes Le Cellier unique is that it is one of the few in park table service restaurants that you can get a really good steak at. You also have a choice that goes beyond the typical "sirloin". Then there is the beer cheese soup and the pretzel bread which are to die for.

Some other places you might want to try.

50's Prime Time: Very fun time and very good food. The fried chicken there is simply incredible.

Whispering Canyon Cafe: Food it good to great but the atmosphere is simply a hoot.

Raglan Rd at DTD: Great food, great music and great atmosphere.

Boma at AKL: Simply one of the best buffets on property with a very unique menu.

I will be the lone voice in the wilderness.

I don't see whats so all fired great about Le Cellier

Cheese soup - yes it is very good, but it's one item. Nothing to go all gaga over in an of itself.

Pretzel Bread - Again, I fail to see the big deal. Its a soft pretzel, but in a stick form. Whee, let my put o my party hat. There are soft pretzels all over WDW. OK, so it is tasty, but not somthing that is unique or new.

Steaks - Some are good, some are not so good. I have yet to have a really great one there. They seem to like to season them with salt, extra salt, and then some more salt in case they missed a spot.

They do have a duck appitizer, and its duck confit as well. I have not had that yet, as duck and then steak just does not make an attractive pairing to me, but anyplace with duck gets a bit of a bump from me.

As far as steaks, you can get a filet or prime rib - both of which are nice, in the way vanilla ice cream is nice.

You can get strip steaks, which can have good flavor, but the one I had there did not have much flavor at all.

It was by no means bad, it was just not all that exciting. Ill go back again, just to see if maybe I caught it on some bad night, but I am still not convinced.

For me, the star of the show will always be the chicken chipotle sausage appetizer. I couldn't believe I ignored it for all those years. In the future, I have to go to Le Cellier just for that. I agree with Phonedave on the soup, though. I don't even think it's very good.

I will also be trying it for the first time this summer. The problem I have is with all the hype that I see here, I have a feeling that it won't live up to it.

Nothing ever does....especially when it comes to food. Le Cellier is a very good restaurant but there is no way in the world that a single restaurant can please everyone. The most expensive, best tasting, best prepared lobster in the world will taste like crap when you give it to someone that hates lobster.

The soup has a very sharp undercurrent in it. They use sharp cheddar. I can see how that is not to everyones liking. I happen to like it, in fact I made some Bouchons au Thon this evening with Gruyere and onion in it. It has that same sort of sharp bitter undertone - of course there is tuna in there as well, not so much in the soup.

Le Cellier lived up to it's reputation for me... it was the best filet I've ever had! Also, our server was just wonderful and I'm sure that added to the "experience" as well! I liked it enough that's it's going back on the list for our upcoming trip in Aug.!

Cannot wait until I can make my dining reservations. This is going to be a first for us. We are trying for a lunch for the 4 of us. Hope I can get it. :slurp: Sounds so good.

LeCellier definitely did not live up to the hype for me. The food was good, but nothing "to die for". Our waiter kind of ruined it for me in that he was overly-attentive in a fakey, fawning kind of way; very annoying. I would go back to give it another try sometime when I'm not expecting the greatest meal experience of my life.

I agree with the folks who said Le Cellier is good but not great. I think one of the reasons it has built such a following is it is hard to get a reservation there which adds to the hype, however that is mostly because the place is very small. There are not nearly as many seats as there are in almost any other WDW sit down restaurant. That's the real reason Le Cellier is so hard to get into.

The tables are practically on top of each other so don't go there for privacy! (but that is to be expected at WDW).

It is a good, but expensive, restaurant. Nothing more.

I could care less about how hard itis to eat somewhere. I LOVE food, and that is good steak that I had. Everyone agreed, and nobody in my party has a problem with eating there 3-4 days next trip...

To each his/her own definatly.

Le Cellier is WONDERFUL! First, the service. I have never been there when we haven't gotten better than Disney service. The food is delicious. The most tender meats and that CHEESE SOUP! To die for!

I would say don't go to Boma. It was not good food. It had absolutely no flavor to me, the service was poor, and the environment seemed very lacking. The only cool thing that made the whole trip worth it, was seeing Joe Rhode.

I do recommend Coral Reef. Service can be hit and miss, but more hit than miss. The soup, Lobster Bisque maybe, is so good. Great virgin drinks, so I would assume alcoholic as well. The atmosphere is so neat. It very dark and calming in there and the fish tank is visible from everywhere in the dining room.

I love LeCellier, but I'm not going to be offended if someone else doesn't. :D I'm a fan of the cheddar cheese soup, and I love the filet there. But the service stands out for me. If the food was still good, but the service sucked, the experience wouldn't be the same for me.

YMMV.

P.S. I do have a ressie at Whispering Canyon, which I've never been to and I'm really excited about.

I keep hearing about the melt in your mouth tender steaks at Le Cel.

Tender schmender.

How does it TASTE (and the meat, not the sauce. Sauce masks lower quality meat)

The meat I had there was not that all fired flavorful.

But again, to each their own. If tenderness is what excites you, then by all means go.

Wow, I have to completely disagree. The beef used at Le Cellier was some of the best quality meat I've ever had. Tenderness, quality and flavour go hand-in-hand and Alberta beef is some of the finest in the world. And a good sauce compliments quality meat. Le Cellier does steak better than most.

But you're right, to each their own. :D

EDIT: My only thought is perhaps you ate there during the Mad Cow scare when Le Cellier had to "settle" for inferior American beef?
