Laundry Detergent?

What kind of laundry detergent to they sell in the resorts (I'm assuming they sell individual packets for the laundry room)? And how much is? I've never used the laundry room in a resort before but I will have to on this next trip b/c we're going for 10 days - and laundry will HAVE to be done with two kids!:animwink:

The reason I ask is b/c we have to use the scent & dye free kind due to various skin problems in our family!

I found a great product online called "laundry dropps" - pre-measured packets of laundry detergent (and they have scent & dye free one). But I can't get the product shipped to Canada from any of the online stores. (That really frustrates me when I can't get something in Canada, Arggggggg!) Sorry had to get that out of my system!

So my only other option (if they don't carry the detergent that I want) would be to take powered laundry detergent with me!?!

If anybody can answer my questions or pass on your advice it would greatly appreciated!

Are you planning on stopping at a grocery store or getting a grocery delivery? That might be a good alternative depending on any answers to your question or other ideas.

I use Ecover and carry down a couple of those little bottles they sell for travel for shampoo from Target...3oz'rs? Think they had name brands like TIDE but don't expect scent free versions down there just pack enough it a little bottle...make sure to not fill it completely and put in a zipped sandwhich bag....I write on it as well so noone mistakes it for hair shampoo....:)

No, I'm not actually! We won't be renting a car, ME will be taking us from the airport and then its Disney transportation for 10 days! And I don't plan on getting grocery delivery at the moment.

So do you think liquid detergent will be fine in a bottle and then packed inside a zippered baggie? You know how the airlines are with you luggage!

The travel size bins at Target have tons of stuff including laundry detergent for usually $1.00. I know they have "All" concentrate. I bottle is good for 2 loads. I am not sure if this what you need. Another suggestion is to pack what you use at home in 3 oz bottles. (pack in a ziploc :) )

I always pack our own powdered detergent - premeasure in a snack-size ziplock bag along with dryer sheets. Works out perfectly - that way I don't have to worry about having enough change with me - the change machines don't always work in the laundry rooms. 17 days & counting!!:ROFLOL:

My wife gets Tide detergant in small bottles @ Target. They are about the size of a 16 oz soda (pop or coke depending where your from) bottle. Hope this helps.

Why don't you try looking around the web for eco/green detergents? Chances are they may have something travel sized on their web pages. I looked at Drugstore.com (do they ship to Canada?) and found a product called Nellie's All Natural Laundry Nuggets and this is what it says:

Pre-measured loads so you don't have to!
Nellie's Laundry Nuggets dissolve quickly in warm water, rinses thoroughly and leaves no residue that make fabrics stiff and irritating.
Especially good for babies clothes and individuals with allergies or sensitive skin.
This package contains 50 pre-measured laundry nuggets, so you never use too much. Use only one Laundry Nugget per load.
Biodegradable, non-toxic, and hypoallergenic

I understand about skin problems and needing to be choosey. I've got them too and this is something I'd try. Why don't you order and give it a test run at home before your trip to make sure it won't react badly? BTW, I love newfies too. We've got 2 st bernards and considered adding a newfie to the family!

I have the same problem with sensitive skin. The resorts have only Tide, which I definitely can't use. For our trip earlier this month, I put All Free and Clear 3x in a pint-size plastic water bottle. I think I had about eight loads' worth in the bottle and didn't come near to filling it. Then, I put tape around the cap, triple bagged it, and put it in the luggage I checked in. There was no leakage and it took up hardly any room in my suitcase (but you might want to fill the bottle, bag it, and put it upside down somewhere to make sure it doesn't leak). I also brought along a clean plastic cup (the kind that the kids' applesauce comes in) and marked it at the one-load line. At the end of the trip, I pitched the bottle and the cup so I had a little more room for my many purchases. :)

Personally, I think taking your own detergent is a better option than trying something new. Having an allergic reaction on your trip, when you're away from your doctor, would not be fun or very comfortable.

I agree that bringing your own is better. Especially if you have sensative skin and have a brand that works for you. Even though we use liquid at home, we only bring powdered on trips just in case of spillage. We pack small ziploc bag with 1 load portions and put those along with dryer sheets in a larger ziploc bag.

Also, be sure to bring plenty of coin for the machines. Especially the dryers, which have very short cycle times (30 minutes?).

Not only are the cycles short, the dryers don't work very well. Most of the loads (none of them oversized) were still damp after paying for two cycles. I had to hang clothes all over the room so they'd finish drying.

I got those Laundry Dropps on clearance at Target, about 3 months ago. Took them with us on our beach vacation - they worked great!!

Thanks for all your help and suggestions but I may have to go with the idea above! I checked out the drugstore.com and they do ship international but there are restrictions on what they can send. I didn't bother to look into any further b/c all the other online sites that I checked out (that did ship to Canada) wouldn't send laundry detergent! Maybe you can't send laundry detergent across the border!?!

And we also don't have Target here:rolleyes: - so no travel size laundry detergent to be found!

Our family currentlly uses Tide Free - we haven't had any problems thus far so maybe I should stick with what I know and love!

I'm going to put in a water bottle like the poster suggests above and put it in multiple bags and hope that it survives the TWO flights to Orlando!

Thanks again everybody!

Why not try and do what a lot of people on here do when shipping bottled water to themselves at the resort?

When you buy from a website just type in the resorts address instead of your own. Something like this.......

Your Name
c/o (Whichever Resort your staying at)
(resorts address Here)

A lot of people order things this way and than have it shipped to themselves at the resort a few days before they arrive. When you check-in ask them if any packages have arrived for you.

You just have to make sure you time ordering on the website with when you arrive.

I have never done clothes at the resort, so I don't know about detergent. But I what I've done with shampoo and conditioner is the same thing. I get the little travel size empty plastic bottles and fill them up with shampoo and conditioner. Then I put them in ziplock baggies and then into the suitcase. I've never had a problem with breakage or leakage. So that will probably work for detergent too. Have fun on your trip!

Ship down what ya may need but don't want to risk on the flight we have gotten into that habit and its really not too bad, last month shipped a bunch snacks and stuff and was less then $10.00 keep that as an option. We purchased a small bottle (10 oz) of detergent 2 years ago and just keep filling it up and its in our checked bags, SouthWest has never said anything about it...
