Desert party is a good guess, something I hadn't thought about. When I was at MNSSHP yesterday though, I saw them building these railing things on top of the restrooms and the first thing that crossed my mind was just the beginning stages of putting a new roof on the thing.

I really like the idea. And the roof seems substantial enough that it could be expanded. Could be they are even giong to add more than one floor. I still think the LAX restaurant Eddie Sotto and other Imagineers built would be a good template to follow. Imagine views of Space Mountain, the kinetics of the TTA with it's new lights, the AO and the rest of Tomorrowland as a backdrop not to mention the new BLT possibly and then add wishes with music and the castle in the distance. Oh yeah, that would work.

The posts in the pic look like the beginnings of the framing for a parapet wall. Remember, the concrete slab above the restrooms is not an existing roof but rather the second floor of the old station.

A parapet wall would best serve any use of the "roof". It would hide any piping and also act as a guard rail if the "roof" is put to some guest use.

It would also define the stage area for the new Sonny Eclipse Hoopla!. But you didn't hear that from me.:lookaroun

I have a strange feeling that this is going to be the permanent Wishes desert party location. Ugh .

Nah no chance. It's too far away to be classed as a prime viewing position that people would pay for.

The problem with having upcharge fireworks viewing on top of the restrooms, is the sight lines between Cinderella Castle and the fireworks themselves. I think being that far east would make it apparent that the fireworks are being launched some distance from behind the Castle.

Just guess'n but since the roof was a flat floor some sort of false roof would have to be added to add pitch so rain water will run to new drains. Then some new parapet sides and theme design added. The end where the old Skyway Shop located could be re-purposed for just about anything.

I think whoever guessed OSHA railings was correct.

I was thinking the same thing. It is definitely very permanent in design. They wouldnt put this type up for temporary use.

I've confirmed that nothing is going to happen to the top level other than the redesign. There will be no restaurant, viewing area, or anything else. Once complete it will just be a restroom.

Nah, I am 99% sure that will be SM extended queue area and the FP distribution area once they reopen the mountain. Didn't you notice that the majority of the FP awning had been removed in the arcade being painted thread?

This makes the most sense. I can see a few reasons why a second floor in that location would be bad.

First, the bathrooms must vent...upward. They'd have to extend the vent pipes up, which means another roof no matter what, if people were to be up there.

Also, unless they re-built walls around 3 sides of the 2nd floor, wouldn't you be able to see outside the park and perhaps even behind Main Street East?

The railings they have installed appear to be the OSHA-required ones for the workers up there. Maybe I'm wrong, but they aren't substantial enough to be permanent (no middle rail).

I hope they put a nice looking roof on it. Right now it's quite an eyesore. I'm anxious to see their finished product.

The railings are simply support structure for an aesthetically pleasing "ring" around the roofline.
