Larger than usual October Crowds

Well there's half your problem!...

You're never supposed to go on the weekend!

Locals try to hit the parks Monday through Thursday...when we are trying to hit all the hot spots. Friday-Sunday, forget it! We still go...

But it's just to watch everyone else slosh through the crowds and scream at their kids!

British schools have a week long half-term holiday about now. Plus a lot of British people had their holidays pulled away from under them during the hurricanes and will have rescheduled.

It's useful to know that things are getting busy in October. I may have to bear that in mind for the future.

MKCP - hope you will still able to have a fun time on your one-off day. Good job you did not head to Magic Kingdom as they'd finished Stitch testing.

Most schools in our area, the surrounding counties and London have the Autumn half term break beginning this Friday (22nd). I guess those big planes out of Gatwick and Manchester will be full of excited children and adults (including my family), heading to Orlando Intn'l in the next few days. And those crowds are going to get even bigger . . .

I was just about to say this! Most are on half-term next week!

Crowds

No one has mentioned the increase in fall breaks in U.S. schools. There are more and more each year going to this system. We have been to WDW the past two years during the fall break time. Attendance trends at all tourists attractions will change as more schools go to this.

I know it was busy last year during the first week in October. The stand-by lines were cray for October.

Peter Pan 70 Min
Jungle Cruise 25 Min
Splash Mtn 60 Min
IASW 30 min
Test Track 90 min

Fast Pass on TT took us 35 minutes & Kilamenjaro Safari was 30 min with Fast Pass. :hammer:

I was expecting minimal crowds. Lucky we went to the MNSSHP and were able to get onto all the rides finally without huge lines.

I hope it will not be too crowded in December when we go this year.

We were there this Fri. and Sat. and it was crazy!:p Epcot was crowded, but you could still move. We left the MK at about 1:00 on Fri. and it was overrun. Everything was crowded and even the TTA had about a 10 min. wait. MNSSHP on Thursday was great though. I would go back next Oct., but maybe just for the party and Disneyquest.

We're going the last week of October. Has anyone noticed if its just busy on the weekends or is it the entire week? I was so looking forward to having a nice enjoyable easy time of getting on all our favorite rides.

Gartner Conference!

Don't know if this could up the crowds too much, but the IT Gartner Conference is all this week so the bookend weekends are usually busier. Up to 5000 people attend (I think) and they usually bring their families.

November 14th is right around the corner!!! :sohappy:

Since that is Super Soap Weekend, MGM will probably be busier than normal.

I was at WDW Oct 9-16 and agree that the crowds were larger than usual for Oct (I go the same week in Oct every year). In addition to tons of guests from the UK and some conference attendees, I discovered that emergency workers/volunteers who had been in the area due to the hurricanes had been (for the most part) dismissed AND were given free passes to WDW.
The key to our success last week was to get going very early. We were in line at least 30 minutes prior to opening every day and were able to ride our favorite E-ticket attractions at all parks several times during the first hour or two of opening. For example, on Oct 10, we had ridden Space Mtn and Buzz 3 times each before 10:30 AM.
We also made shrewd use of FP, pulling tickets the minute we were eligible. All in all it was a great week and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Trip report to follow shortly. Teaser: I am delighted to report that CoP has a long line waiting prior to beginning operation for the day on Oct 10
:sohappy:

We just got back from a trip that lasted from Thursday the 13th through Sunday the 17th. Thursday was pretty calm and the MNSSHP that night was a great time. However, on Friday we got hit by enormous crowds. We went to the Magic Hour at AK and then went the the Studios in the early afternoon. You almost couldn't walk in some places there! I asked a couple of CMs if they knew why it was so busy (since I hadn't encountered crowds like that up to Fri. p.m.) and the best answer I got was that it was nice weather. Kind of ironic, since Friday was the only day of our trip that had any rain. After Fantasmic that night, we went to MK for the parade(s) and Wishes. The crowds watching that parade were the largest I have ever seen--and we were there last July. There were nearly fights breaking out over people not being able to get strollers through on the sidewalks because so many people were sitting there. Crazy...

This weekend will also be very busy. The Funai Classic is being held at WDW on Thurs. - Sun., although there will be no Tiger this year.

So if you are planning on coming to Orlando this weekend, CALL NOW to book a room. If you wait, you may be out of luck like many people have been for the past two weeks.

:brick:

And I thought I had picked a nice weekend to go....

September 29 through October 12 were our trip dates. We were completely blindsided by the crowds, we expected it to be so nice and quiet. Spectromagic saw one lady actually yelling at the CM's because she had saved seats in a designated wheelchair viewing area - like it was their fault she had to move. We only watched Wishes one time, people were literally walking over us to get onto the sidewalk. I, politely, mentioned to one lady that there was a designated walkway and she just said she hadn't seen it and stepped right over me. Others stopped right in front of us to tape the fireworks. One guy took my sister's spot, then stood up in front of my dad to watch the show.:brick:Getting out of the MK is insane after Wishes, maybe they should consider consistently having the rides open another hour or so to help avoid the bottleneck that happens when every last person in the park turns and makes for the exit gates. It's like a cattle drive. Next year we will go earlier or later in the fall. I do think part of it was rescheduling from the storms, compounded by overseas visitors on vacation. Now we have to check vacation schedules around the world to find a time when it might be "quiet" at the parks. :)

It was pretty busy at the Magic Kingdom last Friday but that was because it was open so late (11PM) and it wasn't hot outside. It was a madhouse getting through Main Street but once you got past the parade crowds it wasn't so bad. Splash was 0 min. because it was cold outside and the other two mountains were less than 20 min. We were able to do the 3 mountains, POTC, Philarmagic twice, Buzz, TTA, and Haunted Mansion in about three hours because we didn't watch the parades or the fireworks.
