Lame excuse for nightlife?

Wow, glad to see that Disney is playing it so smart with this call. If they want to get adults to get involved then they should just re-open the clubs...something that was already geared towards adults. But that would involve them admitting they were wrong. Something that Disney never does:rolleyes:

OK....here's my two cents, as a huge supporter and optimist for PI reopening in some capacity....

I was in denial about PI's closure for a while, and lately have finally accepted the fact it's done.

Then, I checked out the new dance party/celebration thing tonight in front of the former Comedy Warehouse.

After tonight, I have a gut feeling -- premonition, if you will, that PI is being jumpstarted very slowly.

I had a couple drinks, and saw a very popular entertainment offering tonight...and felt very positive about it.

I can only think if this remains a crowd-keeper, and causes as much of a foot-traffic nightmare as it did tonight, then management will have no other choice than to open a club or two to absorb the bodies to keep the traffic flowing through the former PI...

Even in denial, I figured PI was six-feet under...until tonight for some reason. Here's hoping I'm right, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

Lets hope your correct and this is a way of easing back in. They could reopen AC or 8 trax to alleviate some of that crowded congestion.

Way to be positive! :D

Thanks for the feedback, we always do a Monday at the universal parks so we can hit all the rides in one day and check out TNA wrestling. But maybe we'll try Saturday to hit up City Walk.

Unlike what some people have said around here, it's not all about being hammered- I own two bars in DC and am opening a night club in Scottsdale, so on my "be a kid again" yearly vacation it's fun to be waited on and served by others in a fun nightlife environment. (And on that note, I can say that nightlife industry folks have looked into being a part of the new PI and have been put on hold for Disney, as they look for more well- rounded entertainment, like mentioned in another thread the IMAX)

I'm staying at CSR this time, a few of you mentioned a place in there. Is it a bit more busy then the Dance Hall to you knowledge?

Thanks for all the helpful insight!!!

RIX Lounge located at CSR draws a bigger crowd, I find the club to be a little more up to date in the sense of the boutique lounge/clubs popping up everywhere especially in places like Las Vegas, Austin, and San Francisco. If you need more info on RIX you can check out their Website at http://www.rixlounge.com/
Enjoy your trip! CSR is a beautiful resort

That is just sad....They are trying so hard to entertain people when they are literally in an area that could be used to actually MAKE money and entertain people again. Oh well, at least there is still Citywalk.

Here's a youtube link to a recently posted video showing the PI DJ interacting with the crowd along with the stiltwalkers. It appears to be early in the evening so thats probably why so many kids are shown in the video; I would expect to see more adults goofin' off later in the evening.

I took that video yesterday evening. I am not sure how late the whole stiltwalker/DJ thing goes, but I wasn't impressed. The DJ and stiltwalkers were good, but the idea and execution are not (IMHO).

Much of the time I was there, people were walking past - not always interacting. This was between 6:30 and 7 in the evening.

Why is Disney babysitting loiters still? This attracts the crowd they were trying to turn away in the first place.

Certainly there was no increased traffic to Laffers Cantina... unless you're a parent of one of the teenyboppers who's trying to drown out the ringing in their ears from the shoddy music being blasted out.

Do we really need to be celebrating something to go to the parks? And why must I be reminded constantly to celebrate my quinceanera, funeral, bar mitzvah, flag day, etc.?

Are we going to see a Celebration overlay for the Backlot Tour preshow for Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day?

Just bring back the club. Idiots.

Wow.. name calling.. thats obviously the way to influence corporate mind..

Meanwhile.. I bid the clubs a fond farewell.. I have no problem with them going away in lieu of new restaurants in DTD.. If you want bars and clubs, go to bourbon street in New Orleans..

Why is it so difficult to understand that removing the clubs doesn't mean no 'nightlife'... PI clubs were not profitable, and were not popular with the average family... you can dispute that as much as you want..

I suspect this 'debate' will go away as soon as the rest of the former club space is re-purposed into new entertaiment venues..

There isn't a replacement for the Adv. Club, it is unfortunate that it closed. I like so many others am crossing my fingers hoping it will open back up.
That being said the thread isn't about AC it's about PI as a whole and how the Mouse thinks their plan of placing Celebrate Tonight as a replacement is "Lame".
So I get the point.

Ye ask, and ye shall receieve... I found the plans for the re-purposing of the AC... and here they are:

Great post. With common sense.
P.I. was horrible IMHO. Good riddance.
WDW greatest decision EVER was to finally close P.I.
VERY VERY few vacationers will miss it, locals (seedy ones) WILL miss it.
It was no secret that there were issues will the type of folks hanging out there.
P.I. was the opposite of what Disney is all about.
As stated above, if you want to bar hop, go somewhere else.
If folks cant go on a family vacation (as over 90% of WDW business is families) and not bar hop...then maybe one needs to get better habits.
If you want nightlife...goto ESPN club. Have a drink and watch a game.

How many surveys did you conduct at WDW to come up with these figures? VERY VERY few vacationers will miss it, and only "seedy" locals will miss it?

Screamscape, and others had the stats..only appox 5-10 % of "vacationers" ever used P.I.
It was primarily..for singles and locals.
Families account for over 90% of WDW and D.L. business.
That is fact.
Families dont abandon their kids for a night of binge drinking and frolic.
As for "seedy" that was the term WDW was using "internally" to describe the kind of people hanging out there towards the end of P.I.'s existance.
It was more politically correct than other terms.
However, none of this matters....cause P.I. is no more! and it AINT comin' back. It is like the elimination of the wicked witch! REJOICE!
