I have known all summer that Joel was going to be gone all day - WHY am I still tearing up here? I can't get upset, because then Abby will be worried and upset, so I have to be the calm cool adult. But that's not how I feel! :(

((HUGS)) You wouldn't be a good mom if you didn't feel that way.
Just think of how far he's come.
Be proud of all you've done to get him to this day.

Morning, Betty! Didn't get to talk to them, they were w/out power & their Dad's cell was dead. Got through to their Mom @ work (she was stuck there until about 9!). I guess she talked to their Dad before his phone died. Said they had about 2 inches of flooding in the basement so far...and they just bought new furniture down there. :( But other than that, they were ok.
Couldn't get through to any of my friends so I've got emails out to everyone making sure they're alright.

Glad they're safe.
Best wishes to all who are suffering through this horrible weather.

Ona related note, DD came home last night for the weekend!

Yay!

Hi all..Rachel..(theladybadger) says hello and she will visit soon..:)

Yay!
It will be nice to see Rachel again!

So, I was just thinking about our friends this morning - Freddy's in WDW, Amy's in Miami, and Bunny'swaking up to her first morning at home with Anastasia.

Life is soooo good! :sohappy:

It is indeed!

Hi Dan - how did your day go yesterday?
It was long. I drove down to syracuse (about 1 hour 30 minutes away) and my brothers train was going to be an hour late. So I went over to the mall (the have the only Disney Store in the area). The Disney store is going down hill (Fast).
Anyways, his train came in a little over an hour. We decided to grab a bite to eat since he hadn't eaten on the train. Then made it to my fathers and talked for about 30 min. before I had to take off to college.
I finally got home about 9:30, read the papers and finally hit bed by 11Pm.

I lead such an exciting life. If I were to write a book about it, it would be a best seller as a sleep aide.

First Day

Every one has a "First Day"
when they feel sad and all alone.
It can be so scary
when you're out on your own.
Take my hankie, dry your tears.
You'll find lots of things to do
and you'll probably make new friends.
I promise we'll be together
when the school day ends.
Here comes the teacher,
blow your nose and be brave.
Come on now wipe your eyes,
this is no way to behave.
"Well, good morning teacher.
We really must beg your pardon.
No, MOMMY doesn't always act this way.
But it's my first day of....KINDERGARTEN!"

Do you have one of those for college?

It's for the first day of school, but still. . .moms feel the same at any age:

Dear World,

My young son starts to school today...It's going to be sort of strange
and new to him for awhile, and I wish you would sort of treat him
gently.

You see, up to now he's been king of the roost...He's been boss of the
backyard...His mother has always been near to soothe his wounds and
repair his feelings.

But now things are going to be different.

This morning he's going to walk down the front steps, wave his hand, and
start out on the great adventure...It is an adventure that might take
him across continents, across oceans...It's an adventure that will
probably include wars and tragedy and sorrow...To live his life in the
world he will have to live in, will require faith and love and courage.

So, World, I wish you would sort of look after him...Take him by the
hand and teach him things he will have to know.

But do it gently, if you can.

He will have to learn, I know, that all men are not just, that all men
are not true.

But teach him also that for every scoundrel there is a hero...that for
every crooked politician there is a great and dedicated leader...Teach
him that for every enemy, there is a friend.

Steer him away from envy, if you can...and teach him the secret of quiet
laughter.

In school, World, teach him it is far more honorable to fail than to
cheat...Teach him to have faith in his own ideas, even if everyone says
they are wrong...Teach him to be gentle with gentle people and tough
with tough people.

Try to give my son the strength not to follow the crowd when everyone is
getting on the bandwagon...Teach him to listen to all men--but teach him
also to filter all he hears on a screen of truth and take just the good
that siphons through.

Teach him, if you can, how to laugh when he's sad...Teach him there is
no shame in tears...Teach him there can be glory in failure and despair
in success.

Treat him gently, World, if you can, but don't coddle him... Because
only the test of fire makes fine steel...Let him have the courage to be
impatient...Let him have the patience to be brave.

Let him be no man's man...Teach him always to have sublime faith in
himself. Because then he will always have sublime faith in mankind.

This is quite an order, World, but see what you can do...He's such a
nice little fellow, my son!
