  I've never seen this movie. I've taken my kiddos to school and gone to the grocery; now I'm putting off getting started in the basement again. How is everyone?
Hey Jenny! Really?! It's pretty funny, prolly one of his best...but it's definately "his" kind of humor if you like that.

Doing alright. Really busy in here today, we have some big board meetings going on. I hate board members. :hammer: So needy.

Aren't they special? :animwink: At least they think they are!

Speaking of boards, Abby was really griping about the school board cutting the kids' field trips this year. I tried to explain that cutting that was easier than cutting a teacher's job...but it showed me the kids are paying attention to all this levy business too.

Nope, or overnight trips for any grades either. No 8th grade trip to DC, for example. The district will go into the red starting next school year. These cuts are the tip of the iceburg if the emergency levy continues to fail. Plus we have a levy renewal thats up for vote too. We're facing a possible building closure next year and 40 job cuts. :(

It's not uncommon unfortunately. Our neighboring district is in the exact same position we're in, and they've been trying longer. So it's like seeing the handwriting on the wall. They have started implementing state minimum busing, which is students k-8 can only be bussed if they live more than two miles from the building. They also have pay-to-play fees for all extracurriculars. Both districts have excellent educational reputations. I'm concerned that will change.

That just seems so unfortunate. Is it rising costs that's leading to it?

It's partially lack of funding from the state. In Ohio it's based on the value of property taxes, which though declared unconstitutional, is still the only funding model we have. The higher the overall value of property in the community, the less funding the school receives from the state. So, property taxes are raised when a levy passes. We pay more out of our pocket, and get less from the state. If we lived in a more economically depressed area, we'd get more from the state. I don't know if I explained that well enough though.

Oh man that stinks! I remember my MS trips (including 8th grade to DC). I don't know what I would have done if they were cut.

So problem...WHF is freaking out over the cost of the internet service and phone line we are getting. He always freaks about cost...and I hate that. He's very fiscally responsible and I love that he is..means we don't blow all of our money and aren't too into debt...however, I don't know how to make him calm down for the initial "blow" of spending money. Any suggestions?

Hmmm.....maybe give him puppy dog eyes? Cookies never hurt either. :king:

Seriously, maybe you should point out the reasons why you need it and how it will be useful? (I would leave us out of the discussion   ) Try showing him that the "value" makes the "cost" worth it.

Cookies...that could do it...

oh...he knows exactly why I want it. He knows all about you guys. :D
And it will now be useful to him...he might actually get on the internet.

And...truthfully, it will help him. He's been going over his minutes of his cell phone recently. So having a home phone line should help curb that. (And his bill this month was twice what it should be!) I'm hoping he'll see it that way too.
