They could have built less parking and leave more space for more attractions instead of taking the classics. Kongfrontation was really a popular AND great ride. At least, lines marked it was.
It seems Universal isn't sattisfied with IoA, so the answer to everything is: "COASTERS"!

Once again..time for me to say something thats sure to cause conflict...

If you had depressing #s such as US and IoA has...you too wouldnt know what to do....THey are losing it..fast...just when they start to "get it" ..they seem to go ahead and screw it allll up...

Personally, I have not seen the huge crowds going to Kong that you mention. Last two trips we were there, we basically walked right on the ride. I agree that the ride is pretty good, but I'm sure Universal doesn't take down attractions that are still pulling numbers. They are not going to spend the $millions it takes for a new attraction unless the existing one has outlived its popularity.

Kong would definately be more popular if 75% of Universal Orlando's guests didn't head to IOA and skip US completely... Apparently Universal didn't see that coming when the opened IOA.

Exactly...IoA is only stealing buisness from US...they really didnt plan on that..I havnt seen a LONG line at US since IoA opened..on any attraction.....which could be a major contributing factor to why they would add a coaster to US to replace Kong (which in my opinion is a DUMB move because Kong is a CLASSIC..in all US parks)...

It's true. I've been at US for the last time on April and lines were most of them 20 or 30 minutes long, however, IoA's lines were from 30 to 1h, except for the Dueling Dragons which are usually quick. I was amazed how few people were visiting US that day, but as the lines were short I didn't care much.
Now, with the cutbacks, recession and other problems, it's logical for US to be uncrowded-

I'll bbe sorry to see Kong go it has always been one of our family favourites. Our kids love having their photo taken in Kongs arms at the end of the ride as much as the ride itself.:(

Well as far as I am concerned, if they want to shut a ride down, they should close that farce that is Twister and keep Kong open.

I really don't understand how they can spoil such a good idea as Twister and use it in some "attraction" where you can't even feel the twister, just messes up your hair a little. They are so hypocrite to say "Ride it...".
Anyway, Konfrontation is a classic , they must leave it like that, plus you can't compare Kong to Scorpion King, neither to the Mummy.

There is a problem in that attraction with producing the twister. Increasing the wind effect on the guests, decreases the shape and formation of the twister. So they had to strike a balance between the force of the wind effect on the guests, and how well the twister forms.

I actually really enjoy twister - I think its a unique attraction, and very well executed. :)

yeah i agree, its different, and it actually makes a real twister right infront of your eyes. I must say, i would of much preferred it if was like a "twister" darkride :)

Twister is not a must-see, they could use the ride story to do something spectacular when they did something common.

Yesterday I went to Universal, and got some good news from a cast member (which may not be true, but its hope). I went on Kong a few times, to get some ride videos in case it does close, and then I asked a cast member when the ride was planned to close. His simple answer was that "it's not." I then asked about why there was all of that publicity for the ride closing a few months ago, and he answered that all of the cast members that worked on the ride were originally told that Kong will be replaced in a few months, and they would all be transfered. A few weeks later, the management came back to them saying that the universal imagineers came up with the brillant idea that a ride based on a movie that takes place in egypt, just wouldn't go in NY, so the latest development is that kong is open for an unknown amount of time or at least unitl the imagineers come up with a replacement that fits the theme of NY.
