But they're posing for 5 seconds specifically for the benefit of those with flash photography!

iPads are garbage too...

Overpriced, overhyped, and overused. They are terrible "cameras" and are too big to carry around the park...goes for any tablet, but the iPad is the most annoying because they are so expensive and too many old people use them.
I love my iPad, its not the device its the stupid humans that are the problem.

Do you use yours to record the nighttime shows? Do you use it as a walking vacation recorder? Do you hold it high up over your head to take pictures and ruin the magic for people behind you?

If you answer no, then thank you.

If the answer is yes, then you are part of the problem.

I have nothing against iPads and iPhones or video cameras and such. But as we are stating, when it becomes an issue to the people around you, then it's a problem.

I do not even take it out of the hotel when we are there. I think it would have been easy to tell what side of the debate i was on from my post, take a minute to read it before commenting.

I honestly don't care what side you're on. It was open-ended. If you would've taken a minute to read it where I said if you answered no, then thank you, that post of yours would've been unnecessary ;)

your a friendly one aren't you

I am. I'm a very fun person on this board.

If you can't take comments on what you write, then don't make the comments to start :)

It's good to know you're on the side that leaves your stuff behind. Now my question is, does your iPad fit in the in-room safe? Or do you lock it in your luggage?

OK so maybe I took your comment more negatively than I should so I will move on.

To answer your question - actually it does fit in the room safe.

I'm going to chime in on the IPad debate, my DW has a top of the line cell phone and an IPad but,, when we are at WDW she never brings the IPad to the parks. She has a wonderful digital camera which also can be used to record video and I'll tell you what she has taken some amazing pictures with the camera and she too wonders why people bring their IPads into the parks. On our April trip while waiting for the FoF parade to start she was taking pictures and don't you know it an IPad went up in front of her and each and every time it did she'd tell the person in no uncertain terms to move it. I was cracking up as the person would turn and look at her and her last comment was,"I'm trying to take pictures with a camera, you remember a camera, they're small fit in your hand and takes pictures without blocking peoples view"?
I too love the ones who are holding up the entire walk down Main Street and are clueless to everything around them...

With all the iPads and everything else that people are toting around the parks anymore, it just kinda begs the question of.... Are you there to video a vacation or experience it?

I've witnessed a bunch of people that literally have the video camera running as they are going step by step through the park from rope drop to the kiss goodnight or wherever they end up... including the rides on the monorails and such.

That's why it's so much more annoying to me. Yes, I took over 600 pictures on my last trip, but I didn't live through the viewfinder either. I experienced and enjoyed my vacation. I didn't need every last second recorded to re-live later.
I usually keep my cameras in my backpack but once in a while I carry my video camera in my hand being that it is so small you cant even notice I have it out. I do love recording certain things when I am there and my wife and I will watch when we get home because although it is wonderful getting home, we start to get Disney withdrawal symptoms a few days after we get back and end up watching our vacation video. Its kind of a ritual.
Also, I am VERY aware of my surroundings when I am taking pics or video. I will not get in someones way and if I do, I will move and I am quick to apologize to that person. I do expect the same treatment when it happens to me and will say something if someone is being outright rude.

I take a cell phone, camera, kindle and ipod to Disney. Ipod is only for the plane because it doesn't really hold a charge after 2 hours anymore, of course its 7 years old. Kindle is for the hotel/pool. As camera is for the park and is used as a video recorder though I rarely use it.

I don't really like how they say camera will be obsolete soon.

Totally agree....wish I could like this 100 times.

People also need to realize a flash on a regular camera will do nothing when taking pictures of the castle from 200 feet away. Same goes for pirates.....you will get an awful, bright picture that looks nothing like what you're seeing in person and you'll annoy me and everyone on the boat.

I don't recommend this, but I still want to share this story. A few years ago I was with riding POTC in Anaheim with a large group of fellow Disney fans from another forum. The people in the boat directly behind us, not part of our group, kept taking flash pictures. I don't mean that they took a few pictures, I mean it was constant. It wasn't just one person, it was most of the people in the boat. It was so bad that one of the CM's repeatedly used the PA to politely ask them to stop. They ignored the repeated requests.

Towards the end of the ride some of the passengers in my boat asked me if I would use my flash to make a point. I had a Nikon SB800, which is a pretty heavy-duty flash. It has a test mode where you can press a button and it will discharge at full strength. I thought about the request and I didn't want to do it at first, but, since the people behind me wouldn't stop using their flashes, I changed my mind. I turned it on, waited for it to power up, aimed it behind me, and pressed the button. The flash was quite bright, and the people behind us got the point because there were no flashes for the rest of the ride.

Again, I don't recommend this, and I'm not proud of it. I just think the story is worth telling. Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire when nothing else works, and this did work. It worked really well.

I love it.

Flash photography is an epidemic on Pirates and although cast members and Disney try to limit it, I think they need to try harder and take additional measures to control it. Flash photography can absolutely ruin the experience on such a dark ride. I don't understand it either because the flash lights up the pictures and utterly ruins the ambiance.

So many people are just plain dumb.

I have a non-Apple tablet and can manage to get it in the safe, along with my video camera.

Which electronic devices come with me on our trips, other than my smartphone, is dependent on length of stay and any special events/tours. Usually just my phone & camera. Longer stay will include my tablet for down time in room (movies, e-books), but not in the parks. Special trips, like Star Wars Weekend, will include video camera for parades and fireworks. My Nikon P&S takes decent video in a pinch, better than anything an iPhone can do. Quality photographs/videos are taken with CAMERAS, not phones or tablets (large phones without, well, the phone)....

I will definitely have to remember to use Fireman's wife's quote the next time some idiot with a tablet blocks the video I'm taking with my camera....

Something to think about. Are people who are constantly taking videos or pictures of everything actually seeing and experiencing the parks? Or are they waiting to enjoy the parks by looking at the pictures when they get home.
