Kids on Walt's statue

We take our camera (which also shoots video), but we are very careful not to ruin anyone else's vacation. A smartphone camera cannot compare for the picture quality, and I doubt it ever will. I took over 1200 pictures on our last trip, and yes, I absolutely enjoy the parks when I am there, and then enjoy the pics in-between trips. The pictures are mostly of the little details that most people overlook - landscaping, fountains, ambience, etc. I would never think about taking a picture inside a dark ride, or even most outdoor rides. Just doesn't work very well.

I'm going to chime in on the IPad debate, my DW has a top of the line cell phone and an IPad but,, when we are at WDW she never brings the IPad to the parks. She has a wonderful digital camera which also can be used to record video and I'll tell you what she has taken some amazing pictures with the camera and she too wonders why people bring their IPads into the parks. On our April trip while waiting for the FoF parade to start she was taking pictures and don't you know it an IPad went up in front of her and each and every time it did she'd tell the person in no uncertain terms to move it. I was cracking up as the person would turn and look at her and her last comment was,"I'm trying to take pictures with a camera, you remember a camera, they're small fit in your hand and takes pictures without blocking peoples view"?
I too love the ones who are holding up the entire walk down Main Street and are clueless to everything around them...
I will cherish the day when I see one of these iPad vacation recorder folks (who bump into everyone, block other peoples' view, etc, etc) trip and land on their precious iPad and spider-web their screen due to their own ineptitude.

Then I do the, OH my.. are you ok? wow... that was quite a tumble... I was going to stop you but didn't get to say the words before it was too late and you didn't see where you were going... oh again.. I am so sorry.. Hope your iPad is ok? oh you can get that screen replaced... oh no.. sooo sorry... wish you would have looked down... it's not your fault... the screen was a little too bright I think... wow.. so sorry...

"I was temporarily blinded by the screen; you see I have this eye condition, and screens like that cause me major issues. I've been involved in several lawsuits... battin' a-thousand! Again, SO sorry about your iPad."

Our society has become one of "everyone owes me something" and "It's ok if I do it"

People need to wake up and just respect one another and other peoples property.

So, wait, you say we need to respect others and their property, but then you post about tripping someone and hoping their property gets damaged beyond repair?

Going back to the original point of this thread; the words and meaning of respect and responsibility seem to be missing from a large part of today's population.

Really, or is it just more noticeable now, thanks to social media? At least now if someone says something incredibly vulgar or hateful, they can be publicly shamed by people all over the world.
I think this all.the.time.
All of this stuff existed before it's just more prominent now. One person does/says something stupid and in 5 minutes it's up on twitter, FB, vine, instagram, blogs, etc..

I can think of about 5 issues this year alone that I wouldn't have had to deal with!! I even have a contract in place that the kids have to sign now.

I tried the whole contract thing with mine when I coached cheerleading, and it became a nightmare to enforce when it came to social media. Either I was being too strict when I made a girl run for talking about getting drunk on her FB page or I was being too lenient if I didn't do anything about them bickering obscenely on Twitter. It's part of the reason I gave up coaching for a little while.

There should be a contract included in your paperwork when you sign up to come to Disney that if you allow your kids to sit on Walt's statue, that the first CM to catch them doing it is allowed to smack the parents across the face without fear of retaliation.

If they can find the parents! I think the contract should say that if a CM catches your kids climbing/sitting on Walt's statue, they can politely escort you out of park and put you on a list -finally a good use of your MBs. Repeated offenses may be cause for banishment for life. ;)

I don't recommend this, but I still want to share this story. A few years ago I was with riding POTC in Anaheim with a large group of fellow Disney fans from another forum. The people in the boat directly behind us, not part of our group, kept taking flash pictures. I don't mean that they took a few pictures, I mean it was constant. It wasn't just one person, it was most of the people in the boat. It was so bad that one of the CM's repeatedly used the PA to politely ask them to stop. They ignored the repeated requests.

Towards the end of the ride some of the passengers in my boat asked me if I would use my flash to make a point. I had a Nikon SB800, which is a pretty heavy-duty flash. It has a test mode where you can press a button and it will discharge at full strength. I thought about the request and I didn't want to do it at first, but, since the people behind me wouldn't stop using their flashes, I changed my mind. I turned it on, waited for it to power up, aimed it behind me, and pressed the button. The flash was quite bright, and the people behind us got the point because there were no flashes for the rest of the ride.

Again, I don't recommend this, and I'm not proud of it. I just think the story is worth telling. Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire when nothing else works, and this did work. It worked really well.

Ok, so if you wont recommend this then I will. ;)

If I had been another passenger on that boat, and seen your retaliatory strike... and epic high five would have been in order.
