Put it this way...there won't be a drink in my hand that doesn't have a little umbrella in it to shade it from the sun

So...I'll say, "This one's for Gucci" and swig it back :)

I can't wait...

Would you eat a piece of Key Lime Pie for me?

Seriously. :lookaroun

My name's Dot.

Hemmingway's house, as others have said. Those cats blew me away. I thought that a six toed cat wouldn't be so weird, but they really were.

The southernmost post is a nice photo-op.

Duval street has a lot of shops and restaurants, if you're into that.

The Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square is a MUST SEE. Get there early to stake out good spots by all the people. And make sure you tip them! That's how they earn their living.

Eat a meal at the original Hog's Breath Saloon. That's pretty cool.

Though not endemic to Key West, there's a Ripley's Believe or Not right in the middle of downtown.

Rent a golf cart one day, if only for fun. Key West is a small island, but it can take a while to walk everywhere. Golf carts are a fun way to get around everywhere and there's a rental shop about every ten steps.

There are a lot of museums that are worth seeing. Many are down by Mallory Square and the Sponge Market.

Have fun!

Disappointed or better than you expected?

 Sounds like a line from Christmas Vacation

"BIGGER THAN YOU EXPECTED???"

"Less that you expected???"

"Well, what is it?"

"It's a one year membership to a Jelly-of-the-month club"

"Clark, that's the gift that keeps on giving the whole year!"

"That it is Edward...that it is."

Ok...onto the review

Not necessarily disappointed...but not better than I expected either.
Different is how I'd put it.

Frankly, those "Postcard Sunsets" are not what you see...Yes, they are beautiful...but you're not getting the colors that you get in those postcards...they must be doctored up or filtered.

We did a Sunset Cruise (awesome) on a Glass-Bottom Boat and that was pretty cool actually. We also took the day trip out to the Dry Tortugas...and that was amazing. Great time and a very cool place. (Actually, it was the only beach we saw the entire time  )

We rented one of those 3-wheeled scooters for a day and that was a blast...it really is! It rained the first two days we were there due to Alberto so we took that opportunity to visit the aquarium (yes, I did pat the shark  ), and some of the museums...we hung out at Sloppy's, ate at Margaritaville, and ALMOST ventured up to the Garden of Eden (but upstairs was closed everytime we went in).

We had free passes on the Old Town Trolley for the entire time we were there (VIP Passes) so we took that thing everywhere (while it was running) and, I have to say, they are GREAT TOURS!

All in all...it was a good trip (the unbearable heat and humidity ruined it a little though)...it was in the mid 90's the entire time so walking around Duvall wasn't the most...."appealing" thing to do. It didn't even cool up at night.

Would I go back? Sure, but probably not for an entire week...I'd make a long weekend out of it though.

It's a great place to go with a bunch of friends to just go and drink...but I don't think I'd rush back with just the two of us.

(And, I said that it was a "Different" vacation because I was kind of expecting, on an island, that there was going to be beautiful beaches, great (not unbearable) weather, and have an "island" atmosphere...and it really didn't.) That being said, I wasn't disappointed and I did have a good time.

Might as well have come to Miami if you wanted beautiful beaches :lookaroun

Glad you had a nice, albeit different vacation  I still stand by my boredom of Key West :hammer:

I didn't even think about the heat and humidity. Glad you still had a good time though.

I never go during the summer anymore - I like to go in October (when it's cooler..........) Esp when I got down for a 4 day weekend in a couple of months.

There is an island that you take a boat from Key West over to and it has a beautiful hotel (& beach) on it - but I can't remember the name right this second.

Oh and "Bigger than I Expected" - LOL (totally forgot about that movie - too funny!!(

I just read this thread and I am glad you had a nice time in KW. I went there a few years ago with a bunch of friends - we left Orlando at midnight and got there at 8am. We were nine people in a room for four on Memorial Day weekend... nuff said! Nothing beats being parked on the Seven Mile bridge for one and a half hours waiting for the traffic to move and go back home! I had fun!
Went to Sloppy Joe´s, watched the sunset - I agree, I have seen better sunsets back home, but it´s the environment what makes it different - we were at the wooden deck, there was a magician, tons of people, we danced with perfect strangers on the streets, it was just a lot of fun, everyone seemed to be happy (alcohol helps too). Also went to Hemingway´s house, saw the cats, climbed the lighthouse and also went to the Southernmost point.

You need to go back with more people and stay less time - I would probably get bored if I stayed a week there. We didn´t have much time to rest having only a weekend so we kept ourselves busy. In any case, if it rained during your stay, you were lucky to stay there longer so you could enjoy the sun the other days (and experience how icky it feels with the humidity... muahaha :)

Brian, it was MY dream. What do you think? :drevil:

Remember when we were prom king and queen? Ohhhh, the good ole days!

Ahhhh, those really WERE the good ole days. That night was magical :) I miss those days. It was such a strong core group of people. I miss that. Sheesh, I remember when I'd try to schedule trips to be down there at the same time as some people just to grab a drink with them!
