Kali River Rapids in deplorable condition

Last week was DEFINITELY not an HD transfer. If they do have an HD transfer in DL, then it makes no sense why they would be holding off on Animal Kingdom.
Have they ever done one of the previews (Tomorrowland, Big Hero 6, etc) in the AK theater? In DCA the Muppet theater got upgraded for Oz preview, Bug theatre for Malicifent, and theater in tomorrowland for whichever one was there first. The Studio pays for the upgrades, not the parks.

I expect something more from Disney than a cheap river rapids ride. Cheap River rapids rides are for Six Flags. Oops, there I go again, comparing Disney to Six Flags.
Yes but its still a cheap ride, Animal kingdom was made cheaply and that's why it sucks. Hopefully this Avatar stuff will make it worth going to.

Kali is one that makes you compare Disney to Six Flags and the worst part is that Disney comes up way short on this one.

Wow. This is the one ride there that I never went on. I didn't feel like walking around completely soaked all day so I've always just skipped it.

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
This makes Popeye & Bluto Bilge Rat Barges sound much more enjoyable..

I think the two even out... For me at least.

I can't stand being majorly soaked for the rest of the entire day, so I can't ride Popeye. Yet Kali is just not, good.. So I don't ride that. I go in the fall so it's not like I can dry up from Uni's water rides. Kinda makes me depressed because I actually like the two in Toon Lagoon.

the problem is the ride itself "engineering wise" is sub-par...but im sure this was allowed due to the amazing show scenes....fire and the like. and at the time imagineering likely didn't see a day when everything was turned off or broken. and now oyur left with a sub par ride with none of that show scene plussing....

You'd have to add some serious length to make this ride worth it, several times what it is now. There is plenty of space up above where nothing is at the moment, but it might be a mess to lengthen the track without just starting over outright.

Since there's a before and after budget cut comparison of the Mine Train track length floating around the forums, i'd like to take a stab at it regarding Kali vs Tiger. I took the overhead map of Tiger River Martin provided and outlined what I believe to be the basic path of the flume. I then outlined Kali's path and overlayed that on top of Tiger's outlined flume. I did the best I could while trying to maintain the proper scale and location, and think I was able to come up with a fairly decent and at least basic idea of how they compared size wise by using map images to line them up and scale them properly.

The large red circles I placed in three areas of the Tiger River layout indicate places I couldn't quite discern where the track was exactly. For the most part the track seems fairly linear, though the three circles seem to contain larger bodies of water in the area that the normal flume appears to merge into. I put large circles there because i'm not really sure what path the boats would have taken in those areas. Whether they continue on in a straight line or deviate from the normal path to actually travel around some scenery and animal enclosures. Either way though it seems that the basic length of the flume on Tiger River was at least a solid 3 times the length of Kali, Tiger's flume is both very clearly much longer and also with more curves and turns than Kali. I'm also guessing Tiger River was intended to travel at a considerably slower pace throughout most of the ride to better view the animals (except for the faster paced rapids thrill said to be near the end), perhaps even able to stop briefly in places similar to Kilimanjaro Safari. It seems that a 15-20 minute or more ride would seem well within reason.

It is funny, since I specifically ride this to get soaked. That is why I typically go on water rides…to get soaked and cool off.

I actually like this ride for what it is - a very brief water ride. Now having seen martin's comments about fire and everything, I do remember riding this several years ago with the truck and the fire, so I suppose I have ridden this when everything was in working order.

I would never use the term deplorable to describe this ride. What is deplorable to me is that it could have and should be longer. As most know me from my posts, I don't drone on about what rides/attractions/expansions could have been. Every ride that we find acceptable or amazing could still always be better or longer. I typically judge a ride for what it is. In this case, though, I feel that they truly missed the mark for what it could have been. Tiger River Rapids could have been an amazing experience with the added length and complexity, especially if the rafts were moving through animal exhibits. The way that the animal walking paths have been constructed in DAK are wonderful, and I bet that this could have been replicated for the Tiger River ride.

Just wanted to chime in and say this mirrors my feelings exactly. We don't generally care for water rides, so it's been several years since we rode this, but it's always felt like an incomplete story, especially in a park that has layer after layer of stories.

I'll even add one more point to this. The queue for this ride is ridiculously well done and themed out the wahzoo (as is all of DAK to me). I better fits the Tiger River concept than what you end up experiencing.

Animal Kingdom in general was never made cheaply...It is arguably the best theme work of any of the Disney theme parks... They came up short on attractions...then tried to shoehorn in Chester and Hester...also extremely well done for what they were trying to do, but not everyone gets the theme...nor particularly does the theme work within the context of the rest of the park....Kali was put in as a knee jerk reaction to not having enough rides...Unfortunately they never really fleshed out the ride experience...Kind of like the rapids ride at DCA... Animal Kingdom really just needs more... More attractions, More engaging things, maybe some park transportation to move guests around....Just more...
But I would never say that the park was just cheap.

More along the lines of it got value engineered to death. The original concept for the Asia rapids ride was very impressive. Even just half of that original vision would have still been stunning.

But that's not what we ended up with sadly.
Agreed. I like KRR when the effects are working and the line isn't too long. The length of the ride (or lack thereof) isn't worth it if it's more than 30 minutes to wait,.
