Just my two cents about the YEAR OF A MILLION DREAMS

Wow, it stinks that there are people out there who have to ruin everything just because they are greedy and selfish. Its gonna happen and it can be tough, but just think of the smiles and excitement that will happen when you give it to the people who are doing what they are supposed to do at WDW. Enjoying the magic...

I saw these people wearing a shirt today over at MGM and they had on the front Year of a Million Dreams and on the back of the shirt it said Pick me. I started laughing all the way to the entence of the GMR. They were walking to the ToT RnRc area.

That could be funny or sad, depending on their attitude.

It's funny if they know full well it's random and were just having fun with it.

It's sad if they actually built up those expectations and pinned the happiness of their trip on it.

I'm sure 100's of families that didn't know any better saw them today and got irritated they didn't think of doing that, because they don't understand you can walk around naked with it tattooed on your backside and it really wouldn't help your chances.

To V and all her dream squad friends,

I am sorry that you are going to have to deal with these crazy people who don't know how to handle life. I wish you all luck with the rest of this celebration. I hope that you don't let these greedy, unappreciative, you fill in your own adjative, guests ruin your spirit and enthusiasum to give other families a little something extra to remember from their trips. I personally am excited for this celebration. We will be there in 59 days, and the anticipation of MAYBE getting picked for something is making the wait even harder. However, I do understand that my family could go the whole 8 days with just a reg. visit to Disney, which is just fine with me. I am there and that is all I care about.

So V and crew, hang in there. There are those jerks out there, but you are also making meaningful moments for many others. Thank you for that!!

This whole YOMD thing is very funny. (A whole celebration thought of in 2.8 seconds by someone who's never really worked the parks.) I can just hear it now...

Disney higher-up 1:"Dah! HCOE is ending! We were too busy playing with our Deluxe Black Pearl Playset to think up a new plan for the next celebration!"

Disney higher-up 2: "Yea that Black Pearl playset is awesome" (looks down and plays with Jack Sparrow toy "hahaha mine is a pirate laugh! Now I, jack sparrow escapes on this rope! wwwweeeeee! Oh noez! G.I. Joe is attacking the pearl!" (grabs toy plane) "Blam!blamblam! BOOM! Oh no, the Kraken attacks the plane AH! I'm going down! Save me Frodo!"

Disney higher-up 1: "I got it! Dreams! Millions of! Prizes! Free stuff will make them come to the parks! And it'll really look like they're getting stuff for free!"

Disney higher-up 2: "Aren't they?"

Disney higher-up 1: "nope. We'll just use the money we'll get from the Magic Your Way ticket system! We can just charge them and call it a Magic Dream Planning fee or something"

Anyways, like I said, quite funny. Because giving dreams out and making the guest happy all the time is what they've always done. Now they only have to do it once an hour from 9-5, So really the average guest is less likely to get something now then ever! Guess this is kind of a break for Cast Members! After all, just let the Doom Squad, I mean Disney Secret Police, I mean, Dream Squad take care of it.

The whole thing is retarded. Just not a very good idea.

If anything I think they should be 'undercover'.

Dream sqaud (whatever) will continue to be harrassed. But I think using a word like 'Attacked' is a little much.

So what's next?

Boy, some of you STILL have no idea how this works, yet you continue to post about how stupid the idea is as if you're experts. I guess that's pretty typical around here.

I am saddened this promotion has gotten so crazy.
It sounded like it would be so much fun for CM's and guests alike.

I really thought that kids and families will really appreciate the memories
this promotion is helping to make.

The promotion in 1986 was random just as this one is.
However it was based on time entering the parks instead of computer telling the dream team where to give out the prizes.

When we went to WDW in 1986 with our 2 youngest, Bob than 5 and Cathy age 3 , Disney was celebrating 15 years and was giving away lots of prizes--
everything from pins and blinking sun visor hats to winning a car and riding in the parade. I think the promotion was something like a prize would be given out every 15 minutes +15 seconds each day. Our Bob won a pin which came with a Sticker saying "I am a winner."

He was so happy you would have thought he won a bike or game system.
He had the biggest smile on his face and felt so special.:)

When we returned home I bought a 5x7 frame and put his "Winners" sticker in
it and hung it on his bedroom wall. When we moved we hung it in his new bedroom.

He is 25 now and just bought his first house. He took that framed sticker with him and it is now in the office/gameroom of his new home.

Promotions like the YOMD can make memories that last for years especially for the young children and their families!

But not when guests are harrassing CM's and feel let down if thier child does not win the special fasstpass. Thats just pathetic. :( <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
Where does this sence of entitlement come from?

First and foremost..My hat is off to the CM's because it's a lot of responsiblity and they have to put up with a lot of different issues..Good Job!:sohappy:

:( It's sad to see and hear people act that way..Who's the adult??? Teach your children an others around you examples of good not bad..This is a contest and not everyone can win..Move on with your life, things could be worse for you..You're in the park enjoying many things with family, and their are thousands of men and women overseas so we can have this freedom..Grow Up!

Okay as you know today the year of a million dreams celebration started. YAY!!

I have a lot of friends in the dream squad and I heard some disturbing stories from them today. I'd like to please remind everyone to treat us cast members with respect. I'd like to give you some advice while visiting the parks this year.

1. For the pin sharks/Pin crazies:

DO NOT! And I mean DO NOT! go bothering or attacking our dream squad for the year of a million dreams tinkerbell pins. They're not going to be on our lanyards!! Don't go asking for them, don't you dare come up to me asking "oh, so are you going to give me one of those pins?"

I was attacked about 20 people today alone for that one pin!! They're rewarded by us to the guest when we see guest do something nice. They're not just randomly handed out and we only give so many per day, per location.

2. Don't go bothering our dream squad in general! We're going to randomly select people for these dreams...big or small, we randomly select them.

Now, I'm saying these things not because I'm mean or anything but today must've been a really hard day on my friends and I.

I for one was attacked by the pin crazies for this one pin, I was being asked if I was "giving out dreams in the next hour??"!!! !!? It doesn't work like that.

My friend (who is in dream squad) Got attacked by a few quest for not giving their family dreams when they witnessed her giving a dream to another family.

Now this type of behavior is not permitted at all. If you're lucky you're lucky, if you're not, you're not.

My friend told me she was followed by this one family followed her almost all day to see if she was going to give them anything.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT??!!

So please, pass this advice along to others. While at the parks, especially with the new celebration, don't feel crossed with the dream squad if they don't give you a dream.

I want to give you a hug for SOOOOOOOOOOOOO many reasons!!!

I can't believe people could be so rude to you or your friends. I want to give you a hug because you work in Disney World. I want to give you a hug for telling people "Please don't be so rude to the Dream Squad." I want to give you a hug because you made someone ELSE'S day (whoever it may have been). I want to give you a hug because I want to make someone else's day, and would LOOOOVE to have a job like that. I want to give you a hug because when I come back in December, it will be special for me just to see others extremely happy and special.

I come to Disney World ALL the time. I love it there because it's like my second home. It's my home away from home (if you will) and I know so much about the bad points and good points of working there because of friends who work there, and I know so many little stupid trivia things about WDW, and I LOVE making a Cast Member feel special just because I know how I would want to be treated if I were a character.

Just being there is special for me. Being able to work there will be amazing for me, and most importantly... if I could give away a dream, I probably wouldn't be able to find anything else more amazing.

You're wonderful, you're lucky, and those other people are lucky to BE in Disney World during the celebration.

----------

As for YOU, MissionSpace! You may have spent thousands of dollars to come to Disney World, but think of the many OTHER people out there who have never gotten a chance to come to Disney World, and may never get a chance to come again. You may have saved up for forever and ever amen to come to Disney with your kids during this amazing celebration, but you have no idea what the meaning of Magic is behind Disney World. Walt's dream wasn't to have spoiled rotten children or parents to come to Disney to demand for someone to make their dream come true! That's like complaining to the "Make A Wish Foundation" because your "ADHD" kid wasn't chosen for a prize, and the Cerebral Palsy child was!

So how dare you come to Disney and claim you can take home a piece of the magic. If anything, not only did you take a piece home, you stole it! You attempted to steal something that cannot be stolen!

So go ahead and leave the Kingdom and never come back. Because those who take AWAY from the magic aren't wanted, so don't bother. Remember, you can always be replaced by someone who WILL want to be there, who WON'T be spoiled, and who will probably win at LEAST a pin because their attitude is so much better than your's, and they'll make a cast member's day by saying "Thanks so much, Wendy, for taking time to chat with my daughter, you've really made our stay special."

This summer, BEFORE the Year of a Million Dreams celebration even started, I took my friend Stephen to Disney World for the first time in his life. He is twenty-three and has dreamed of coming, but never got the chance until I came along, and I wanted more than anything to show him the most magical and special time. Cast Members noticed it was his first time, they ADORED it, and they made it even more magical for him.

Before you think of yourself, think of the others who are having a better time than you WITHOUT the Dream Squad prizes. Because for them, being in Disney World itself is a "Dream Come True"

Hmm...

So, You spent several thousand dollars on a Disney vacation. Whose fault is that? Oh yeah... YOURS!

And since you don't know how to control your anger, you'll just pester E V E R Y Cast Member you come across for free stuff.

"Oh! Disney Charges such a premium price, I am entitled to free stuff. Gimme Gimme Gimme! I spent $400 for 5 cents worth of Disney. Gimme Gimme Gimme!"

Guess what, I too have spent several thousand dollars for my time at WDW, and spent $400 for the same 5 cents worth of Disney. Furthermore, I also have a history of standing up for CM's whenever I see a rude guest harassing, insulting, or attacking a CM... to the point of pulling the guest off if it truly is attacking.

While I may be a very nice guy in real life, my internet persona is warranted in real life as well. You better hope to never run into me in the parks while you're doing these things to a CM. You'll find yourself dealing with me as well.

I am sorry I really didn't mean to be so rude! I just don't fell Disney is right on this one! I know 99% of you will stick up for Disney because you a huge fans, Disney can do no wrong in your eyes!

I just don't think it is right to have a whole celebration around a contest! I know there is new rides and shows but there is always new rides and shows all the time! It must be hard on the Dream team also, how can you live with yourself, giving prizes to some and not others, I know you are only doing your job.

The only one you really gets anything out of this celebration is Disney! Already I know of people who are going to go daily to try and win stuff! I have seen the new fastpass for sale on e-bay allready I have also seen fake fastpass out there. So it is not just me who wants to win!

The Dream Sqad doesnt even know what they are handing out until the guest opens the SEALED envalope.
the "contest" (the prizes handed out is a more appropriate way to put it) is 100% random. The Dream Squad doesnt pick out who to give the prizes to...it comes to them on their blackberry to hand out envalope #12 at 2:34pm to the first person near a certain spot who fits a random description.
(as an example)

if it is a big prize that they have been handed they wont even find out what it is until they reach City Hall (for example, in MK) and the Guest Relations CM will tell them descretely.

DMC-12

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.
I just don't think it is right to have a whole celebration around a contest!

Most of these "celebrations" are dumb, and are just lame marketing ploys.

Do what I do... just ignore these so called "celebrations" and enjoy the parks (and atmosphere) for what they are.

I could care less about this promotion or any celebration(s)... I just go to the parks to have fun & escape reality.

Hi. I'm one of the founders of the former d-troops.com. Disney does wrong, many times, and I call them out. While I share your view on YOMD, I don't go looking for freebies by harassing CM's. If I get one, it's great - if I don't, no big deal. This isn't Vegas... you may not be a winner, and spending more won't increase your chances. If you want a reward, get a Disney Visa.

I just don't think it is right to have a whole celebration around a contest! I know there is new rides and shows but there is always new rides and shows all the time!

I agree with your first statement, but as for the second, obviously you never heard of 100 Years of Magic.

It must be hard on the Dream team also, how can you live with yourself, giving prizes to some and not others, I know you are only doing your job.

When I was a Disney Character, and I couldn't see a crying child because I was tired and about to pass out, I could live with myself. Some guests are definitely more deserving of above and beyond than others. Pushy guests with bratty kids got the bare minimum from me, nice guests with nice kids got my 110%.

The only one you really gets anything out of this celebration is Disney!

Duh! When you get to the bare bones, a WDW celebration is nothing more than a marketing campaign. Nothing more. Just a reason to make more money. Again, remember 100 Years of Magic? Nothing more than an excuse to make money. No new E-tickets, 4 "new" parades, 2 of which were made on the cheap using former junkyard cars and trucks as parade floats, another which was a recycled version of its predecessor, and a new theme park icon which was nothing more than a pin store. WDW is all about making money, not making art, not making magic. Magical Moments at WDW serve nothing more to reinforce the fact that us, as consumers, and the front-line entry level cast have fallen for this ruse. Even with all of the freebies given away with this celebration, I can assure you that Disney is not losing a penny.

I have seen the new fastpass for sale on e-bay allready I have also seen fake fastpass out there. So it is not just me who wants to win!

Nice try.

Disney comes out on top no matter what. Obviously this was an amazing marketing ploy and these alleged "people who are going to go daily to try and win stuff" are spending their money @ WDW. Parking, food, passes, whatever - Disney has now won.

Besides, they're decreasing their chances of winning by adding a higher number of people into the parks daily. Simple arithmetic there!

And seriously, what part of RANDOM do people not understand? :brick:

Where does this sence of entitlement come from?

The 15 year anniversary celebration was AWESOME. I can remember winning some popcorn and at the time I thought it was the coolest thing. Anyone remember the Chevy lumina you could win that was parked by the fountain at Epcot? Also Disneyland's 30th was a great celebation too with everyone winning something (I won a plush Mickey). I liked the random ticket method better than the Dream Squad, but this still seems cool.
