Just my two cents about the YEAR OF A MILLION DREAMS

I really dodn't understand why some people let a simple thing as not being awarded a prize during this latest celebration (marketing event) ruin their entire vacation. I personally could care less whether I win something or not and am not going to the parks simply for the chance or being awarded something. If I do that is fine, and if not, no big deal.

I wonder how many people are going to flooding guest relations at each park complaining that they didn't win something. Isn't the chance to visit WDW or DL rewarding enough??

It is also bad parenting in my opinion to teach little Johnny and Susy that they should expect some kind of reward simply beacuse they paid XX dollars to go on vacation. Life does not operate on that mentality thankfully.

Furthermore, if you feel wronged by WDW for not being awarded a prize, don't go again.

No. Understand, this is a CONTEST... And how do you win a contest? By entering. A radio station has a contest for some cash. They give it to the 100the caller. Completely random, not hand picked. They don;t give 100 bucks to EVERY one of their listeners. Same thng here with Disney. You want a chance to win a prize? Enter the contest. How do you enter? Go to WDW, Disneyland, mail in your entry. Just because you spent 3 thousand dollars to go to Disney does not mean you are entitled to a dag thing.

I think people are misconstruing the idea that everyone who thinks we all should win something means that we think we are entitled to win. Some may feel that way, but not the majority. From a PR standpoint it definately would make more sense if we all won something even if it was just a one time use fast pass. The PR folks could advertise that everyone wins or is a winner. To me it isn't a big deal, but imagine this scenario. A family of four goes to Disney during this celebration. They have two small kids or lets say kids younger than their teens. This family is in line for a ride and there's a family next to them as well with kids also. One of these families happens to get picked for a prize. You can't tell me that the kids of the family who doesn't get picked aren't going to feel a little disappointed.

Now I know that there's a lesson to be learned here and in real life we all can't win or make lots of money, etc., but this is Disney where we all can enjoy fullfilling our fantasies and having a great time regardless of our income, social status, etc. The problem is Disney has now artificially changed that dynamic by creating winners and the opposite -- loosers. To adults I don't think it will be very important, but to kids I think this will have much more significance. To me Disney isn't a place where you need to explain to your children why they weren't able to experience the "magic" like some others may due to a silly contest. This basically sums up why I think everyone should win no matter how small the contest is. At Disney we're all winners, too bad real life isn't that way.

I think in theory the idea is nice to give out random prizes to people. But like the OP wrote, some people just can't take it as that.

If I was in WDW and some extremely rude person who's been harassing a CM or pushing through lines, or any other bad guest behavior like letting your child use the World as his bathroom, won a prize, I'd be a bit ticked off that a nice, good guest didn't recieve one instead.

That's the only real problem with randomness in that way. Disney should put a big sign with big letters in all languages in front of the entrances. It should say "The prize giveaways are random and any harassment or the like towards Cast Members on the Dream Squad will result in expulsion from the park."

That would probably get people to behave better.

Sad thing is, guest sometimes don't read the signs. I had to kick about a dozen people with children riding on the EVCS today after they signed the waiver saying for the safety of your child or anyone else, only one person is permitted on the EVC. =/

In other news, my DS friend told me today that the icecream stop over at imagination gave icecream for free and it happened to be on the hour. So this one family kept on going up to the poor girl over and over every hour and then the CM was like, we're not giving our free icecream. The lady told her "yes you are, we were here 2 hours ago when we saw you do that."

Seriously........this saddens me. 2.50 for the mickey mouse bar. WHY?? They wasted a good 2 hours of their disney time just because they thought they were gonna get free icecream.

Ha, well, hopefully guests like this will remain in the small minority. It seems that the people complaining about this celebration are few and far between, and the rest of the guests will enjoy it, winners of free stuff or not. This celebration is a good thing, and it will continue being good throughout. :)

mission space your a moron

:brick: you just dont get it do you missonspace? people like you and your kid dont deserve disney. looks like the dream team members may have to wear civilian clothes to pull this off, maybe looking like average guests may help with the mayhem. but i suspect people like mission " who spend thousands", dont we all ? will beg, steal, complain to get there stupid fast pass tickets. stay at home welfare case we dont need you at disney

Personally, I couldnt care less how the free gifts are handed out, it'll be an exciting prospect to be apporached by one of the "Dream Team" members to be given anything outside of the Holiday experience. I'ld love a Tink pin or any of the other gifts but I wont go pestering about it.

This reminds me of last year a little though, even incedental Disney privillages suffer from Guests who can neather be fair nor kind. It was our last day at the parks and I thought I'ld get mom on the monorail front seeing as it was her birhday and we'd never done it before. I asked the cast member while waiting. Though there was another family wanting to go on it. The mother stopped us going on saying they were going in the front and the cast member stepped in and said seeing as I had asked first, we got the front, and that was the Disney policy. And she kicked up a right stink about it, it ruined the experience a little for us sadly because I was worried about bumping into her afterwards.

Guests like this should take a step back and realise they have plenty of chances to do stuff like that. Just because your at Disney doesnt give you the excuse to act spoiled or demand anymore than you already get. If we get the chance to stay in Cinderella Castle or some Mickey Ears. Thats AWESOME and a memory worth treasuring, no matter how small the gift is. It would be nice if everyone won something but I an deal with that. I'm sure Disney will do some special random stuff for guests in general anyhoo.

v, I think people like that will continue to behave appaulingly even if YOMD wasn' going on. I was at MK on Sunday night getting my last Dole Whip and this horrible woman at the other window was arguing with the CM about the amount of ice cream she was getting. Apparently this guest got a Dole Whip the night before and they had ran out of the soft serve cups and were using regular drink cups, so I guess people were getting (or thought they were getting) more soft serve ice cream with the drinking cups. Well this woman refused to accept anything less than her Dole Whip in a "big" cup and started yelling about how "you gave me one a big cup yesterday, why are things different today blah blah blah"

Why do people think they can make demands like that? Why couldn't this troll just have been happy with the fact that she got a little something extra just once, and not try to demand the same special treatment everytime?

I really hope the intent of this promotion doesn't backfire ad start bringing out the worst in people, it would be a shame.

Because Tink, a lot of people leave their common sense at home. Mix that in with a heaping cup of "self entitlement" and that's what you get. Stupid rude people who make ridiculous demands and make a royal as* out of themselves in the process. I don't get it personally. When DH & I go to WDW, we're more mellow and usually in a much better mood than we are here at home. Like everyone else, we pay a lot of money to go to WDW and do without a lot of stuff in the few months leading up to the trip to save for it. Just because people pay thousands doesn't give them the right to act like horses as*es to CMs or other guests. I think the people who DO act like that must've missed the memo stating manners and common sense are still required once you hit WDW property. Anyhow, I think the promotion is already backfiring and bringing out the worst in people judging by the posts on this thread. Luckily, I never win anything ever so I'm not worried about it.

Dream Squad

I think the Dream Squad might be showing signs of stress already. Before this officially started, two weeks ago we were at the MK and I am in a leg cast and was directed to the exit of a ride so the moving walkway could be stopped. A family was waiting to be let on, and had apparently been awarded a fast pass type of entrance there by the Dream Squad, because as they got onto the ride, they turned and saw me and my husband and the woman said, in a quite snarky manner, "You are in the wrong line". I lifted my leg and showed her. "Oh, go ahead," she said, but now her non-smiling face was the impression I was left with. It seems they are weary and shell-shocked already, and thought we were going to speak to them. I agree with the poster who said they may have to be in non-uniformed clothes, without the obvious shoulder bag of "dreams" to pass out. If they are passing out dreams, the very least they should do is smile to those of us not getting them, we are just happy to be there. Bad form!

Your right, most people are happy. There is an on going thread on the disboards, its up to 354 posts already talking about the small wishes that have been granted and the excitement of people that are going to be there during this promotion.

100 people might be unhappy each day, but that only represents 1/10 of 1% of the people at one of the four WDW parks on any given day. Its a small minority and we should really just ignore them, even though they always seem to be the loudest.

At least i'm not the only one who thinks this celebration stinks!
Go to www.thedisnyblog.com and read the first story!
I have a Brilliant thought!

If you Don't like the Celebration, Don't go to WDW during it!

There, problem solved. (Vote Chape for Pres!)

Let's just remember the majority enjoys the celebration and what it is bringing. That's all we can ever hope for with a new promotion. As for the select few who don't like that, see the above statement. Simple as that.

I've never posted before but I just couldn't read this thread anymore.

missionspace is pretty full of it. If you read any his posts, he has done nothing but complain about this celebration even before it started.

Sept 21
"What I'm going to do is follow the Dream team around all Day! That should help my odds!"

Sept 15
"Wow!
And I won't win any of them!
This sucks! What is Disney thinking? To all of you who don't win, this celebration is not for you!"

As for his kid he had this post
June 7th
"I am a solo travler and really feel let out! I just don't get what they are thinking! This celebration is going to caues a lot of hard feelings! I seems like it is just for the winning families only!... "

I'll go with the grow up and move on. Prize, no prize, you are at DISNEY WORLD. Be happy, some people will never get to go. Nuff said.

KUDOs my friend! I just got back from a 10 day trip and let me tell you....though I knew I wouldn't "win" something, the big prize for my family was a great vacation, an awesome experience at the Not So Scarey Halloween, and a fantastic expereince for my 1 year old son. It's about the fun and helping to create magic by allowing yourself to enjoy life a bit! Not about feeling Disney owes you something.

Disney is a corporation and in the entertainment business. They create a product we like and are willing to pay for. They create promotions to boost business as all companies do at some point (rebates, sales, etc.). As with most of you, some I like, some I may not. I go for the overall experience as I enjoy the product they create. Something they change and I don't care for, so I find new things to fill the gap. I always find a way to have fun.

I for one got jacked on a lot of dining experiences due to the (insert explitive here) free dining plan so many others had in their package. So, to better the magic and not let it ruin our vacation, we visited more resorts for dinner and found a new way to enjoy our trip. Problem solved! :sohappy:

So as Chape said...." If you Don't like the Celebration, Don't go to WDW during it!" :hammer:

First of all, welcome to the boards:wave:

Secondly, while I agree with your overall sentiments, could you kindly refrain from using the term "welfare case"? I don't want to harp on a newcomer, but I feel that sometimes those that have to work the hardest to be at Disney might appreciate it the most. It is not the sole domain of the well-to-do. Thank you.

For the Record

I'm not against Disney's YOMD contest. For the most part I think it's a great promotion. In the post MissionSpace refers to on The Disney Blog, I'm just pointing out one area where I think Disney should make a refinement of the contest so they aren't excluding guests who are physically unable (too short, injury, etc) to enter the queue of the attraction where the prizes are being awarded.

If they claim the contest is open to everyone in the park that day (exluding certain individuals who are connected to the company), as they do in the rules, then make sure anyone can win any of the prizes.

They are not only awarding in lines, they can give out prizes in any location. A line is a guarenteed concentration of people, so if looking for specifics, like a goofy hat, you're bound to find one in a long line.

Many of the prizes are being rewarded in other places around the parks. It's as fair as it can be.

Thanks for pointing that out.
I rent an EVC from an offsite company when I go to Disney since I have limited mobility caused by a worsening inoperable spinal condition.
I never gave much thought about some of the "dream prizes" given to guests in inaccessible lines. I do appreciate the fact that most of the lines at Disney have been mainstreamed and I am not overly concerned about some of the gifts being given out in lines that are not mainstreamed or are height restricted. But thanks for bringing it up and making more people aware.

I would like to point out (and give credit to Disney) that the elevator to the Suite inside Cinderella's Castle and the entire Suite will be wheelchair accessible.
