...Otherwise I'm going to need a flag to put on the back of the wheelchair which reads: "back surgery" to head off the judgmental people lol.

Hopefully the slow pace is sufficient!
Then there will be the judgemental people who think you are making it all up anyway...so why bother.

You should have a doctors excuse emailed to everyone going to WDW ahead of time so they will know you are legit.

Those with invisible illnesses that you know nothing about. Say you had a debilitating illness and someone can't tell from just looking at you. For me to look at you and go oh he's just fat or whatever and is playing the system for a scooter is Discrimination.

That's actually just being judgemental. How would you thinking, "he's fat" be discriminatory? What unfair treatment am I being subjected to?

Actually, I think that's just ignorance.

To deny someone a scooter because their illness is not readily apparent is discrimination.

You guys got what I was saying completely wrong and it's hard to explain so let me just say this. I really, really hope no one here that doesn't already have an invisible illness gets one. You would understand if you got one and that is the last thing I would ever wish on anyone. Ok..on with life..

Just this past February, I went to WDW with my friend who has had two broken ankles in her past. One of those ankles had surgery. One did not. She gets along fine here in Chicago, these few years later after her injuries. So we plan a trip to WDW, and never make any special plans for a scooter, or a wheelchair. We will just take it slow, we both say. We are both a year shy of 70.

Long story short. My friend only lasted about 5 hours walking on our first day at DHS. So we left early, and missed Fantasmic, and the Fireworks. 2nd day, we hit Animal Kingdom, and it was a replay of the first day. 5 hours, and she was suffering really bad. She announced to me then that Day 3, she wasn't going anywhere. She wanted to rest up back at the hotel, but I should enjoy the parks solo. So that's what I did. No fight, just mutual respect and understanding. It wasn't until Day 4 at MK that my friend insisted that she should get a scooter. Expensive, but she wanted to do that, and I did not argue with her. However, after 20 minutes of watching her struggling with the operation of the scooter, we took it back, and exchanged it for a wheelchair. They were really nice. The refunded her scooter money, and applied the cost of the wheelchair. Our last two days were so much better. We accomplished so much. I didn't mind pushing my friend. I have pushed a few people around the parks over the years. She spent her birthday day in a wheelchair, and she still talks about how much fun she had at Epcot.

Now why didn't we go get a wheelchair that very first day. Pride, maybe. Lack of communication.

I myself have a sore foot for my trip that begins in just a week. Not sure how I will be able to navigate. However, I'm crossing that bridge when I get there. I am traveling with 5 friends, and we will figure it out. I promise to be respectful of those around me.

Since "your" so critical of others...

I just got to wdw...it's been a long 10 year wait... one thing is bugging me after only 2 days...

First, I am all for truly handicapped people getting a break...but to be politically incorrect....being fat is a lifestyle choice 99 percent of the time...not a handicap.
Please cite the scientific studies you used to come to this conclusion.

Loading you scooter with your families food and drinks in a cooler plopped on
"You scooter" is not grammatically correct.
you lap or in a basket and scooting onto the bus is
"You lap" is not grammatically correct.
disgracefull to the real handicapped and simply downright rude. These people consume 4 seats on the bus between the scooter and the seat they sometimes jump into. They slow the loading and unloading by 5 minutes...
"You lap" is not grammatically correct.
and they get to cut line.
"Get to cut line" is not grammatically correct.

What does it cost to rent a scooter? I assume wdw is making big bucks because otherwise it makes no sense.
Can anyone get one of these...maybe we all should!
That is a question and should end with a question mark.

Aaaaaahhhh!

To make matters worse my room request was
no where near where I wanted to be at OKW.....[/QUOTE]Nowhere is one word.
i have a hell of a walk everywhere I go...does anyone know if these
I should be capitalized.
' diet challenged ' folks get precedence for having rooms near the main area?
There's no need to put spaces around your quotes.

Don't get me wrong...elderly or truly handicapped have all my sympathies but uncle Joe with 4 drinks and a cooler scooting onto the bus delaying my trip and taking other
folks seats...while wearing a Fitbit no less .....well it's just
"Folks" should have a single quote after the "s".
disgracefull.
Spelling.

I won't even mention the way they drive and honk their little horns in the park..I guess
they deserve to scoot around everyone and move at a quicker pace....what is going on the
not sure here world!!!
Is it me.....
question mark.

Maybe the little girl was just getting the scooter for mom or dad or grandma or grandpa. The exit to Dinosaur is a good distance from the entrance, my Dad was unable to make the walk back, and since my mother and I both have scooter driving abilities that suck, my daughter went and got it for him. Again don't jump to conclusions.

Okay, lets analyze this a little further. So just how is a little girl running over my foot with a scooter and causing me pain all day jumping to conclusions? So she had some kind of right to do this because she may have been helping Grandpa? May you enjoy the same event some day and see how much you like it then. Be sure to walk around the next few days with a sore foot during your high $$$ trip to Disney because of someone else's carelessness.

I have no issue with those needing scooters using them. But if they do not act responsibly, then they become a hazard to others and should be policed accordingly...handicapped or otherwise.

Can you please expound on how this ruined your trip? I imagine it was more than a "sore foot"?

If all park visitors, whether they are on an ECV, stroller, wheelchair, or on foot, were courteous to the people around them, we could avoid alot of the kind of stuff that's being discussed here. Watch where you are going, do not cut in front of people, don't bump into the people in front of you if you can avoid it. There are too many people at WDW that make their way through the crowd as if they are fighting through the defensive backfield trying to get to the end zone.

Could not agree with you more!

Well I certainly had to make due. Maybe I still enjoyed the overall trip some but my sore foot was still a constant reminder of her carelessness and as I said...as I was standing there in pain...the parents were jerks about what happened and had the audacity to infer it was my fault. It made quite the lasting memory.
