Jungle Cruise Altered After Recent Tragedy

I hope this censorship won't be stay for the long term as news of this horrific event fades since that will only create another elephant in the room for future generations.

Hogwash.

First this isn't "censorship" - the government didn't make them do it.

Second, it was a smart thing to do and good for whomever thought of it so quickly.

Third, it is a throw-away line, the "script" on that ride varies quite a lot anyway - it doesn't need to return, no sane person is going to miss it or not understand why it needed to be removed, and indeed this story has made such headlines that for years and years to come people are going to have it somewhere in the back of their minds and don't need to be reminded of it.

No. I won't be taking my children there until it's changed. I don't want them eaten.

Well better not plan on ever going back to WDW or FL again.

What do you suggest they do, put a glass dome over the entire place and then snuff them out one by one?

There is no more danger than there ever was. These animals have always been there. As you are now educated to that, you have about zero chances of it ever happening to you as long as you don't go in the water you aren't supposed to go into anyway.

What about "ice" gator who is the mascot of Blizzard Beach? Doesn't Typhoon Lagoon have an alligator as its mascot?

I don't think folks need to go all Dukes of Hazzard on this - it was a specific joke about a child actually being eaten by one. I think that's sufficient in the sensitivity department.

Altering dialogue for attractions is one thing, but removal of all things Crocodile or Alligator related would be going too far and is just ridiculous. You can't act like an entire species doesn't exist and in some cases beloved characters. What, are they going to start euthanizing all the gators and crocs at AK now? Put tarps over them? What happened was a tragedy but come on. Lets close down pretty much the majority of Port Orleans!

If a mouse bit a guest and they died from an infection as a result of it....goodbye Mickey? Well, I guess that's why they have Oswald waiting in the shadows.....

I'm not so sure about that. The story was reported on our local news, as well as other local news channels, and was a trending topic on Facebook. It seems knowledge of the incident is not localized to the Disney fan community.
How has nobody noticed that the "alligator" incident is all over CNN and Fox News and MSNBC and the story has reached the UK and India and China. People are treating this as if it's more important than it was. It was a tragedy, and I feel sorry for the parents (especially because many social media profiles accuse them of bad parenting), but it has been blown out of proportion. Yesterday's search for the child's body was reported like the Olympics.

Someone told me Louie has been removed from Friendship Fare, but I have no idea if this true. Can anyone confirm?
Wouldn't that make MORE news then if MRFF opens as planned??
MK wasn't even part of the accident. It happened at GF not in MK. What did FOF do yesterday and is doing today???????

The JC joke i can see but Disney changing their movies in the parks would just give them more bad press. Right???? I don't think the family would want that.(I'm gussing, I really don't know)

UOR had no problem opening kong after the zoo accident. Granted it's a few months later now.

Tic Toc has been removed temporarily from Festival of Fantasy. Word among the performers is that Louis is being removed but there is no word on how long.

Nah, it's just the typical over-reaction from people that don't seem to understand that nothing that has been mentioned played a part in this particular tragedy. No alligator heard the joke on Jungle Cruise and said to themselves, hey, I hadn't thought of that, maybe I'll try that tonight over there in the area of the Grand Floridian. It's again the knee jerk reaction to things that we don't understand and didn't expect. It's also the human nature to be totally uncomfortable with anything to do with death no matter how impossible it is to get out of it, on a personal level.

It was an accident pure and simple, and the idea that saying "the alligator ate the child" is wrong as well. His body was found intact. It did cause him to drown and it is a very huge tragedy to the family, but, also an unfortunate accident that no one would have thought possible. We need to care, but, we also need to be rational. How many 2 year olds die every day due to car accidents, starvation, child abuse and disease. We cannot prevent everything from happening and trying to block it out of our minds wouldn't have any helpful purpose. I said it before, it is better to be reminded so that we are more aware and therefore more cautious of our surroundings. Then, maybe, we can at least cut down on this type of thing in the future.

Yeah let's ban alligators. Everything will be wonderful then.

To be fair it's a damned if you do damned if you don't situation. If it didn't happen on WDW property then fair enough, but it did and they're being sensitive to the situation. I'm sure it won't be forever, but think they've done the right thing out of respect.

Absolutely, it's good that they reacted in a small way, but, life does go on and must not always be sugar coated. It is up to the rest of us to find a way to cope with bad things happening.

Since the media is going so overboard, there probably is something going on somewhere that they want to divert our attention away from.

I guess it makes sense for WDW to tone it down while the media is still there, and still on the news. Hopefully temporary won't be for a long time. Makes me wonder what DL will do with Soundsational tomorrow?

Don't get me wrong, hiding the Captain Hook/croc AA or the HM portrait is definitely way overboard. I also agree with removing the JC joke. But an image of a gator at night floating in the Electrical Water Pageant in SSL probably hits too close to home.

Oh, I agree! I must not have been clear. A barge of a chomping alligator floating in the lagoon would be pretty tasteless now. I was referring to the jokey tone of this thread, which weirded me out as we're dealing with a tragedy here.
