Jungle Cruise Altered After Recent Tragedy

This topic came up in the alligator attack thread. The only obvious changes I could think of were the script in JC and any joking reference to the crocs in KS. Those are no-brainers.

Anything else is oversensitivity. Like changing name of alligator bayou, removing the Captain Cook/gator AA, eliminating any reference/art to alligators on property.

Ironic, since there has never been a fatality caused by a crocodile in the state of Florida, or the entire U.S. for that matter.

But I guess since we're on the subject of removing potentially offensive things that are related, but totally different...
After hearing of the Fla woman bitten by a pigmy rattlesnake recently, now costing her upwards of $200k in hospital bills...Disney may want to consider removing the large python from Jungle Cruise as well. Because, you know, snakes & such.

I'm all about not getting carried away with oversensitivity but In this context to say there has never been a croc attack in the US is a distinction without a difference. Completely correct to remove the croc joke from JC. I don't think it would fly for Disney to say, "Well this joke is about a reptile with a thin nose in Africa not a reptile with a fat nose in Florida." Yeah, that will go over real well.

Also FYI I was at GF for breakfast yesterday. Business as usual. Loud boisterous families and happy tourists in the lobby. Heard not a whisper about it at across two parks. People here may care but they're certainly not discussing it, nor is there any general sense of sadness. I would have liked to have seen some sort of acknowledgment, but I'm not even sure what would have been appropriate. Erring on that side was probably the correct thing.

We were there yesterday morning too, and I only heard one woman discussing how she was happy they were staying on the 3rd floor and not the first floor, because she was afraid that a gator would crawl in to their room from the patio. Her husband told her to be quiet.

isn't there an alligator screen in the nightly water parade? if I am remembering correctly they should probably pull that float out the parade. Though I have a feeling that anything(except fireworks) that attracts guests to the beaches will be discontinued for awhile.

I hope not, I leave in 9 days and am staying at my dream resort finally (WL) and have been looking forward to seeing this parade! As well as the boat ride to MK. (This will not dampen my vacation, this will not dampen my vacation...)

There is a sea dragon but I don't think an alligator.
There most definitely IS a gator in the water parade, and here it is:

I've gotta say, all of the "Disney is going to remove all gators now" jokes are weirding me out. A toddler just brutally died in front of his family. The removal of that particular crocodile joke in Jungle Cruise is, as others have stated, understandable, but Disney has given us no reason to believe that we'll see a wholesale gator purge.

Don't get me wrong, hiding the Captain Hook/croc AA or the HM portrait is definitely way overboard. I also agree with removing the JC joke. But an image of a gator at night floating in the Electrical Water Pageant in SSL probably hits too close to home.

So lets be over sensitive now and remove the crocs from Jungle Cruise...and Peter Pan...and Splash Mountain...and from Animal Kingdom...and Ice Gator from Blizzard Beach and Laguna Gator from Typhoon Lagoon....and all gator and crocodile toys and plush.

What happened sucks, but lets not get carried away.
Next...Ginger snaps :banghead:

Its human nature... They had a moment of shock, sadness, grief, for the child and family, were thankful it didnt happen to them and their child, then continue on with their lives. Their reaction would be very different if it happened to a family or child they personally knew. Tragedy & death is something no one wants to think about or visit with any longer than they have to. It will be a sad tale to tell and memory they might talk about when they return home.
