Jungle Cruise Altered After Recent Tragedy

You've all ran off with your own tale here. You've pointed out all of the places where there are alligators in WDW, then theorized about Disney removing these gators, and are now complaining that Disney is overreacting (as if they actually did remove this stuff).

Disney took only a few actions, which I believe are appropriate.

Even if you don't agree with the parade and stage show temporary changes, the Jungle Cruise joke removal was most certainly neccessary. It's inappropriate to joke about tragic events. Although after reading the last few pages of this thread, it seems many don't understand that.

You're misreading. People are asking, "Should they X". My answers have consistently been other than the JC joke and the chomping gator in the Electrical Water Pageant ("swimming" around SSL by the way), No.

I shouldn't use the word "all," because you and some others may not be included in that. But I am certainly not misreading the odd jokes about removing other things. Yeah, some of the "should they X" are disrespectful and unneccesary jokes.

I can quote them if need be.

Probably better not. It would just be rubbing salt in the wound.

Exactly.

Especially because I typically like some of the posters who are going off the rails a bit here. I get it, I like to joke around too. But this is a very serious deal and there is a circle of people who have been deeply affected by this tragedy.

I realize that "tone" is often hard to interpret on Internet chat boards, but unless I missed something, I didn't see anyone here being disrespectful or ghoulish.

And I sure don't think anyone is calling for the banning of every croc/gator image or character on property (although on this board, ya never know. There's a good number of ban-happy folks on here - ban booze! Ban tour groups! Ban phones! Etc.)

On the other hand, I think that with this being all over the news at almost every hour of the day, it's on everyone's mind and they/we are just having a hard time wrapping our heads around this seriously unimaginable incident.

Like I said, there's no reason for lots of changes, bans, etc, but in thinking about this, I feel like we've realized just how many crocs and alligators as characters, as imagery, as punch lines, etc there are all over the parks.

Tic Toc has been removed temporarily from Festival of Fantasy. Word among the performers is that Louis is being removed but there is no word on how long.
Finally getting back to this thread and I'm sorry, but this is the definition of censorship gone too far. I can kinda (though its not really since he is still very cartoony) see Tic Toc since his whole character is to eat Captain Hook, but Louis!?!?!? That character is just too goofy and lovable to connect him to the real world dangers of his species. With all of the aligator prejudice going on at WDW, I can't help but think of is this scene right now.

There most definitely IS a gator in the water parade, and here it is:

Oh, thanks for correcting me! It's been a while since I've seen the entire parade, unless sometimes they do a condensed version. I don't think I've actually ever seen him before!

Removing that one joke makes sense and then the gator in the water parade also makes sense, but gator characters I think are fine (even Tic Toc, seeing as he's a cartoon and only goes after Hook). I'm not Disney though, and they'll probably want to cover as many bases as possible because we all know how people like to find any little mistake with the company o_O

DancingPheonix- A word of advice.

NEEEEEVER thank people on these boards for correcting you. You may regret the invite someday.

There are a few here for which the "ignore" button was solely developed.:)

You keep throwing around the word "censorship." There is no oppressive government preventing them from doing anything. On further reflection though, to have a singing and dancing alligator on stage in MK after a real one snatched a child, drowning him and would have eaten him if it weren't startled strikes me as bad taste and completely tone deaf. Removing it from the show at this moment was the right thing to do. Anything with a script should be up for review.

Now, if they start removing installed AAs, the HM portrait, and art/sculpture or rename Alligator Bayou then they have gone too far.

So no word on whether or not the crocodile has been removed from electric light parade? I feel like that's what most needs to be removed.
