Port Orleans Riverside is my single most favorite resort ever!
I just love it!!!

Tips....get a mansion room (as opposed to Alligator Biyou).

It's just a super-great place (better then Delux resorts in my oppinion. I may or may not be alone in this ;) )

Sounds like you've changed your mind and are deciding to go back to WDW.:)

Seems like you were pretty upset with the transportation system last time when you visited the All Star Movies resort. You'll be glad to know that POR's multiple bus stop's are far better than the single bus stop at the all star movies. So I would put in a request to have your room as close as possible to the bus stop.

Other than that, I agree with Capt. Canada in requesting a room in the Mansions.

hello there fellow rhode islander( we're from west warwick)... this is my favorite resort .....yes make a request as soonas you can for certain buildings that are closer to bus stops , pools and dinner hall if you can...although they do try to carry out a request its not always possoble..we've always had luck once we went down and at check in time ,ask for a certain building...although as everything else it matters what time of year , if its busy or not..but you'lll love this resort..its pretty big , but it is ( to me ) very beautiful as far as landscaping and such....we always stay in the alligator bayou section...in either buildings 16, 17, 0r 18.. but do your research..everyone is very helpful on this site...do a search as well here...i,m sure wannabebelle (who also is a por fan) will be letting you in on some great sites to see pics of this resort.... but overall i think you'll love this resort.. :sohappy:

Heya

Well, on our first EVER trip we stayed at POR (then, Dixie Landings) and loved it so much we've kept coming back. It really is a lovely reosrt, especially with the boat service to Downtown Disney (recommended).
Definitely check out www.wdwig.com for piccies and info on the Resort if not yet seen. And I have read evidence (thanks to other threads) that they offer the best a la carte breakfast on property now. Hope you have a great trip!

We just got back from POR last week. This is our favorite resort now, and our 3rd time staying there this year. Definitely request the mansions. Oak Manor and Parterre Place are both good, just a short walk and a bridge from the Main pool, food courts and boats. Make sure you take the boat to DD at least once.

I have stayed in the legendary building #14 and it is by far my favorite place to stay on the entire property. Having done mansions and bayou, I would definitely go for bayou, mo0re shade, more landscaping, quieter atmosphere. Building 14 is a very short walk and is my suggestion

another RhodeIslander's 2 cents worth...

We just got back from POR last week, and I can't say enough good about this resort. We've stayed at CBR, Pop Century, GF, and Beach Club, and this is definitely our favorite! The CM's were outstanding, rooms were great (yay for good water pressure!), and the food at Boatwright's for breakfast was fabulous. We stayed in one of the mansions (Arcadia), but next time we plan to ask for Alligator Bayou - it seemed more shady and we really liked the quiet pool there. We had our own car, so I really can't judge the bus service, but we never heard complaints from any of the guests. The boat to Downtown Disney is very informative too if you have the right "pilot".
I can't wait to go back to POR - probably next September!

I JUST made my honeymoon reservations for this resort--for almost the exact same time! I've had glowing reports from family members and by looking at pictures and video I think it's stunning. I agree with the Mansion rooms (vs. Alligator) preference, I've been told they are the best. That's where I've requested to be put, anyway. So I don't really have anything else to add, but I'm excited that you'll be staying there! It should be a fantastic trip!

We stayed at POR when it was Dixie Landings and just loved it. We stayed in one of the Mansions. We liked it so much we've planned our last three trips with POR as the initial place we were going to stay. We just got lucky and found a great rate and upgraded to either Boardwalk or AKL. As you can see below we will be staying there again this year. What we really liked about it was it's laid back theme and beautiful landscaping. It has a bit of a serene feeling to it. It's a great relaxing place to come back to after a hectic day in the parks. There are some nice places to walk about and Boatwrights is also a great place to eat. Another little perk about POR is that it has a boat that takes you to Downtown Disney and is the best way I can think of to get there. Last year we were at MGM and wanted to goto Downtown Disney. Now you can't get directly from a park to Downtown disney, you have to goto a resort first and then catch the bus to Downtowna Disney. We remembered the boat from POR and hopped over there and had a relaxing river cruise to Downtown Disney.

Have fun!

POR is absolutley great!!!! i was there 3 weeks ago for my first time ever and me & my family L-O-V-E-D it! the beds were super comfortable and the landscape scenery was SO PRETTY! in my opinion anyway. but it's very close to all the parks to which is great! it took us about 8 mins. max to get to each park. hope this helps!:)

I've stayed there twice. First time (1995) we were in the bayou, second time (2005) we were in Acadian House (Mansion). We had LONG walks to everything ('cept the pools). The lobby was (or atleast seemed) to be atleast 1/4 a mile away! The boatride to DTD is, like others have said, spectacular. Its very relaxing, and if you get the right driver, its kindof funny too. If you request a specific mansion based on walking to bus stops and/or lobby, I would say either Magnolia Terrace or Twelve Oaks would be the best. :D

and it has the piano dude...

We always stay at Port Orleans...thought about trying another resort...but I just can't bring myself to do it...

Dixie Landings has become as much a part of Disney as the Magic Kingdom

just noticed your sigline...

I've been to Dixie Landings (6 or 7 times)

First time I went to Disney World...I stayed off site (before the moderate and All Stars were built)

The 2nd time...Dixie Landings (just after it was completed...when they had the Cajun Music playing around outside of the lobby)

Haven't wanted to go anywhere else since.

I did stay at an All Stars...(present) but kept making a comparison...
Then for a convention at the Swan (still not Dixie Landings)

por is my favorite resort, i love the atmosphere and themeing. sometimes i forget i'm at disney cause i get so immersed in the themeing. my only tip is give yourself time to get to the food court, bus stop, pool ect. because the resort is very large. also it may be good to find your way around to the bus stops, pool and food court the day you get there. i can't tell you how incredibly easy it is to get lost there your first stay until you walk the paths 2-3 times.

yes i noticed that the cajun music does'nt quite play as much as it use to ...i'd love walking around and hearing that creole , cajun banjo...i got a kick out of how it was even played in the bathrooms as well.....any reason why it is'nt played as much or at all?? couple of years ago i somehow got a great link to the cajun music played at dixie landings....along with a list of all the songs...then my computer got a virus ..and well no more cajun music :( .
