They didn’t did they?

They did indeed. ”According to Disney, this first-ever attraction based on the Walt Disney Animation Studios hit film, “Moana,” will let guests interact with magical, living water in a beautiful and inspiring setting.”

Epcot has always been about inspiration. Too bad the motivation behind that inspiration these days is to inspire you to buy merchandise and overpriced food and drink. Maybe this will show they are changing? Time will tell but the track record doesn’t exactly... inspire... confidence.

I could see a concern that The Seas Pavilion wasn't getting enough visitors (which is the money angle, it's not pulling its weight as 'an attractor') because it was so far off the beaten path. So, what could draw people to The Seas as soon as you step into the hub... Watery Walkway of IP Synergy.

Except we don't even know what this fully consists of yet. If it acts as a replacement to the old Living Seas preshow of sorts ("The Deluge"), but in a walk-through form, then it very well could be a learning experience. There must be something unique enough about it for it to have a spiffy new icon whereas it appears the new Festival Center or new Fountain of Nations do not get this distinction.

If the Haunted Mansion had originally been built as a walk-through instead of a dark ride, would it not be deserving of being called an attraction?
There has been nothing said or shown that makes me think this water feature will be a first act to The Living Seas...How do you create a teaching moment in this water play area? will there be plaques that explain that the volcanic heat creates steam that rises to create clouds etc? will you move through it in groups creating a full show experience? so far it just looks like a water play area... Pretty..but out of context...

They did. Chapel said "it's the first Moana inspired attraction" I believe. I don't have the video to pull up right now.
Grief...

That's because there has been nearly nothing said and we are just speculating based on scant information. I dispute the notion that an outdoor walkthrough water-based attraction can't be more meaningful than the Casey Jr circus train.

Maybe they will. I think it’s implied they will. But since all we have now is concept art and speculation...

Has anyone here ever designed or built anything? Plans are just that - plans. When you get feedback from others, plans evolve. When you start building, plans evolve.

We have no idea, um...how far they’ll go. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Something that could tie the land together with water... The Land... The Seas... where would that fit... hmmm... I know!!! Right off the hub, just knock down that building! 🤦‍♂️ And don’t make it a fully-featured ride, just a “walk-through water attraction”.

Not knocking this, it could be done well for whatever it ends up being, just whatever passes as a thought process within the walls of Burbank these days as to its execution and placement.

Plans should not be evolving during construction. That’s what schematic design and, to a lesser extent, design development are for. Continuing to evolve after construction has started is a problem, not a normal part of the process.

Well, it happens. That’s life. You bump into the unexpected, or you come up with an idea that improves upon the original when you see it coming together. Can’t get that from a schematic.

To each their own, as I understand it was groundbreaking in it's time... but Snow White doesn't hold up. I actually think a lot of the Walt era films still are pretty entertainment despite their age, but Snow White is like 85% setting up the plot and random singing and then rushing through the actually climax and resolution.

I atually think Moana is a far better film. And I'm not event that big a fan of Moana.

considering it's highly likely none of us are even here without snow white, we can probably toss aside the subjective angle, no? ;)
... so, objectively, that monumental achievement is etched into the company fabric in a way moana could never be, so view my post in that light.

tho, i suppose it is kinda fun imagining subjective reactions to moana by the audiences of 2096

It happens all the time. Hell, Walt canned his original concept for Pirates after they had actually installed the steel for the attraction. People change their minds.
