Johnny Carson Dead at 79

Tony Randall always told Johnny (on the show) to stop smoking. Did Johnny listen? No.

Did many smokers listen? No, especially at that time. Sad to say. My grandfather died of a heart attack that was likely related to his emphysema.

I already miss Johnny Carson on TV. I was really hoping he would come back at least once for an interview, but he never did.

He was the definition of professional in that industry. He was funny and just a little crazy, just enough to keep the show (and himself) fresh; and he wasn't afraid to be self-deprecating. But most important, he knew his place as host (not star): he made the guests shine.

He is still missed. Perhaps the pretenders to the throne will have another chance to learn this week.

I'm sure there will be a huge thing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno tonight. Jay was the replacement after Johnny left. It's really sad to hear this, I had to call my parents yesterday while I was at work so that they would know about it.

RIP Johnny!

Yep. Another entertainment giant and GENTLEMAN felled in part by smoking...

It would have been interesting to a Walt Disney interview on Johnny Carson... (Carson was on the Tonight Show by 1962, so Walt could easily have been a guest.) I am sure that it did not happen, but how cool would it have been?
