Job Interview in Orlando on Thursday

Hi everyone-

I am very excited to have an interview for a job in Orlando on Thursday. I'm coming in on SWA at 3pm on Wednesday, then I'm heading back on Friday afternoon.

I'm pretty nervous about the whole thing, as I turned down a job offer in Orlando (which I really regret) in August. I'm hoping that if I do get an offer, it's enough to pay my bills (which was the problem last time...although with a second job at WDW, I could've made it work).

If any locals want a mini-meet (my AP expired and I'm broke so unfortunately I can't go to a park) or have any tips (especially if you know of anyone looking for a roommate - I have to get this all done in 2 days this week!!) let me know, as I'm sure I'll be lonely (especially if I end up moving down...I really don't know anyone in Orlando except a friend of my brother's, and that's a stretch).

Anyway, if anyone has any tips or anything for my interview, I appreciate them!!

Thanks!

Good luck with the interview. Sounds like a pretty big step for you. Just be confident and think about how many more trips you'll be able to make to the parks if you get it. Also, if you do end up working at WDW it sounds like there are lots of great cast members so I'm sure you'll make new friends in no time. My fingers will be crossed for you.

Good luck with it. I see you're in Buffalo. I actually moved from Orlando up to Buffalo back in May. But I do hope you find what you are looking for an enjoy it if you make the move.

Edit: Oh, and make sure you aren't anywhere near Pine Hills for either work or home if you go down there. And according to friend still down there, Curry Ford Rd is getting pretty bad as well.

Good luck with your interview! I hope you get a second chance to move down to Orlando. I am thinking about doing the same thing so I know how you feel. Let us know how the interview goes!

Thanks, guys! I'm just packing now (I'm packing a brown and a black suit and we'll see which one looks better after being in a suitcase...a garment-type suitcase, but still).

I wish I had the money to renew my AP this summer...a little time in the parks would make me feel better if I didn't get the job. I just check and P&P parties don't start until next week (figures!) - $40 I could afford, but no way I could afford $100 for a 1-day ticket.

I'm really excited about this interview...not only will it get me out of snow and into sunshine, but it is a job with a great agency that's actually what I'm finishing my master's for (here in my hometown there's nothing in my field).

I'll be sure to let everyone know what happens (the interview's Thursday).

Thanks!!

Are you interviewing in Downtown Orlando? In general, you'll want to avoid the Pine Hills (Crime Hills) and Paramore areas. They are located on the western side of I-4, with Paramore a bit closer to Downtown. Good luck on your interview! Depending on your interview time and location, you may want to add on some extra travel time if you'll be on I-4 or the 408 coming from the east.

Thanks for the tips! I've been contemplating a move to Orlando for more than a year now (wanted to finish up my coursework and find the right opportunity first, though), and I have definitely heard about the issues in Pine Hills. I haven't heard of Paramore, though.

I found a couple people looking for roommates on Craigslist. I'm especially excited about one in Hunter's Creek, which I hear is a nice area (can anyone verify that?). Plus, it's 30 minutes (no I-4 woo hoo!) to where I will hopefully be working and 20 minutes to WDW - perfect location!

I don't know much about driving on the 408, and I packed away all my Google Maps printouts so I'm not sure if I'm driving on it, but thanks for that tip. I'm going to do a "test run" tomorrow afternoon before the real deal on Thursday. The interview's at 10 and my $25 Priceline bargain hotel - thank goodness for slow season - is in Kissimmee, so I'm probably going to leave a little after 9. I figure if I get there too early, I'll get a cup of coffee or something.

I'm really excited, and again, I appreciate everyone's tips and good wishes. I hope I have some good news to share soon!!

You should be ok, with traffic at that time, but you never know down here. Staying off I-4 is definitely a good thing. I live 32 miles from where I work and generally takes me around 50-60 minutes in the morning. The evening usually takes me 60 minutes, sometimes a bit longer.

Hunters Creek is a decent area, you are close to lots of stores and easy access to all the major roads. I don't think there are any truly bad areas in Hunters Creek but I think there are areas that are better then others. Stay away from OBT (Orange Blossom Trail), that includes OBT in Kissimmee and Orlando. I have yet to see a nice area along OBT.

If you get the job and move down here, you'll definitely hear all about Paramore.

Just thought I'd officially update this...

I had to cancel my interview (although I made it to Orlando) because of a health issue (although I went to Epcot to see SSE in my agony -no way was I going all the way to Orlando and missing out-....see my devotion? :)).

I had some medical tests, and now have to have surgery to repair a hernia (I'm only 27 - sometimes I feel cursed). I am so disappointed (I can't even apply to jobs here now, until I get my surgery done with); however, I am glad it happened now, as I wouldn't want to be alone in a new city and discover that I need surgery (that would have been a bit overwhelming).

Some day I'll get down there for good...just gotta take care of my health for now, I guess :)

Sorry to hear about the hernia ... I got one when I was 27 too (but it was a pregnancy thing). Unfortunately, I still have it and it's not something they want to operate on. At least you got to see SSE (talk about consolation)! Take care, and good luck! :)

Sorry to hear about your hernia.:( The stress of starting a new job in a new city, new state, and having a medical problem on top of that would not be good. It was stressful enough for me trying to find a job and having to adjust to Florida at the same time. I couldn't imagine having a personal health issue on top of that. Even once you get a job, there is still the stress of adjusting to the new job, commute, etc.

On the flip side, at least you saw SSE.:sohappy: Don't worry, if you are set on moving down here to Orlando, you'll do it!
