Jim Hill + Harry Potter = One Scary Story

George Lucas has made billions dollars off the Star Wars empire too.

And in reality, Harry Potter does not appeal to all kinds of people.

But Star Wars has transcended generations, with little or no protest from anyone.

That is why I think it is the most popular. :)
No doubt Lucas is a genius. I would be interested to see the numbers of how many people have seen or read the Star Wars movies/novels vs. the numbers who have seen or read the HP movies/novels. I mean individuals who have read or watched, not how many times it has been watched or read in total.

Either way, I love both. Star Wars has been a part of my life since I was 9 years old and when there is nothing on the first disc I grab is The Empire Strikes Back. The Harry Potter books are something I held off on for a long time, dismissing it as something I would not like to read. When I started I read all of them one after the other over the course of about 4 or 5 weeks I think.

I can't stand the way he writes.

Amen. He makes me want to puke with all his over the top rhetoric :hurl:

Anyway. I don't understand why USO would spend so much money and R&D on robotic arms for this ride when they have a much EASIER (and cheaper, and probably more successful) solution sitting in front of them.

Since Back to the Future is closed (will close? has closed? whatever), all they have to do is retrofit those cars with Ford Anglias and make a new movie and retheme the building. That way makes much more SENSE if they really want to make something of this Harry Potter scene.

I think Occam's Razor will eventually be Jimmy Boy's downfall.

For some reason I really dislike when people say "Why for" -- that bugs me and I don't know why.

Thx for the link OP

Thanks!! I am NOT the only person then! :sohappy: Actually.. thats one of the main reasons why I stopped going to site and reading his dreck years ago. No joke!

His term "Why for" just enrages me and makes me want to bite his face.  :lookaroun :goodnevil

That, and "anywho."

I cringe anytime I see that written.

Sorry STR8FAN2005, but I think the most popular franchise of our time is, and always will be Star Wars. :)
Depends on you define "your time". I LOVE Star Wars, but it isn't what it was many years ago. It still is and always will timeless, but Potter is the franchise of today.

Building a Harry Potter attraction today, makes as much sense as Star Tours and Indiana Jones did over 15 years ago. It's the same situation in my eyes.

As much as I am a Star Wars fan, that is not true. Potter is way bigger and plays to a much larger crowd. Rowling is the first person ever to make a billion dollars as a writer and that was about 3 years ago, and has made more even since.
Exactly.

But Star Wars has transcended generations, with little or no protest from anyone.

To be honest, there is no such thing as something that appeals to everyone.

Strike while the iron is hot, Harry Potter is hot right now, and will be for a while.

But disney didnt even make harry potter, nor did uni.
Disney didn't make Star Wars, Indiana Jones, or any Pixar film (just distributed them). Nor did they create Peter Pan, Cinderella, Snow White....(the list goes on and on and on).....

JKR would never agree to that. If she were even going to settle for only a single HP ride, you can bet it would be something brand new to the tune of $100,000,000...there is no way she would go from expecting an entire new park to being okay with a retrofit of an ancient motion simulator.

I never said it appealed to everyone, I just said Star Wars has transcended generations. And I really mean that, Star Wars can appeal to a wider audience.

And by "our time" I mean the present, as in now. Sure Harry Potter is hot, but Star Wars is still up there.

No doubt Lucas is a genius. I would be interested to see the numbers of how many people have seen or read the Star Wars movies/novels vs. the numbers who have seen or read the HP movies/novels. I mean individuals who have read or watched, not how many times it has been watched or read in total.

I'm wouldn't hesitate in saying that the Harry Potter novels have probably sold a lot more than the Star Wars novels. I have to admit, I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but never have really read a full noveliztion (I've just never gotten around to it.)

But in terms of overall popularity, I think Harry Potter has a long way to go before it can surpass Star Wars in popularity.

Not saying Harry Potter isn't a hot seller. I think Harry Potter is a great movie and book, and certainly wouldn't mind an attraction based off the franchise. But still, I think Star Wars is here to stay.

I don't know about that. Disney probably COULD do better, but there would also be the huge chance of massive budget cuts and constant cut-backs that seem to be so common lately. Universal has always been a bit more experimental with their new attractions (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...). You can’t, for example, say that Spiderman wasn’t a near-perfectly executed attraction. Popeye and Bluto's raft ride is also miles above Kali.
Exactly. When Universal's got something big, they usually pull through (large budget or small). I can't see how Disney could've pulled off Spidey better.

But who would want a boring motion simulator when you can have a high-tech/highly-themed ride? Not only that, but how could they theme the monstrous IFT building....

Three words: Harry Potter Weekends

Disney should pounce on the franchise and milk it for all it's worth...as they've done with Star Wars. If they don't Universal will.

Harry Potter Theme Park should replace Disney Quest. :D :lookaroun

They are testing a Simpsons Movie ride right now in the second Back to the Future Bay.

Nope. JKR wouldn't go for it in a zillion years. She is asking for a whole "mini-park" type situation. Diagon Alley...Train Station...Hogwarts....and she has proven to be none too flexible about it. At least with Disney.

That's certainly her perogative. She probably looks at Star Wars and sees a single unupdated 18 year motion simulator in two parks and thinks I have to do a more expansive job of promoting my franchise. There's going to be 7 Harry Potter films and each one will be in the Top 5 grosses for the year in which it is released. She's got some stroke here.

I am not so sure that WB would want to JK to have to sell off the rights to any theme park. They have thier own and it would be a good tie for them to start up some US parks.

WB may not want her to sell off the rights to the book to another theme park but unless they can outbid somebody it doesn't matter. The only thing they had any say in was making the movies. Furthermore, WB's parks suck and I'm certain they can't put in the type of attraction that Rowling is demanding. I'm fairly certain that if IOA does put something there it will be based off of the books and not the movies since that's how they've handled everything else there.
