Jim Hill: American Idol to be delayed.

Tokyo notwithstanding

You know it isn't really Karoke as we know it. Karoke over there is a private affair, not an American Idol thing. It's something that friends and family get together in a private room to sing, order drinks, food, and such.

Why I couldn't stand whatever peanut-brain that made that stupid commercial about a guy using American Express to go to Tokyo and sing at a TOTALLY INACCURATE Karoke Bar.

huh, it's been delayed?

The preshow (with Justin Guarini) was taped this past weekend and last thing I was told is that rehearsals start in early November.

Spaceship Earth and TSMania wern't delayed, unless you are referring to Spaceship Earth never actually being finished?

The delays were less significant than I thought. Spaceship Earth was supposed to open early November 2007, but had soft openings beginning December 7, 2007 and opened February 15, 2008.

Toy Story Mania was scheduled for an April 2008 opening, but opened May 31, 2008.

Sorry for the mistake!

SE didnt even have a delay. If you go back to the news articles around the refurb time on http://www.wdwmagic.com/spaceshipearth_project_tomorrow.htm. Check out when the project was announced on 12 April 2007 - Disney stated it would be done by early 2008. It then soft opened late 2007 and officially opened Feb 2008. That is a pretty good prediction from Disney on the completion schedule! :)

With TSM, when the project was announced in Jan 2007 they just listed 2008 as the opening, with no timeframe. The first official idea of a timeframe was then on the promo posters in the park (you can see them on http://www.wdwmagic.com/toystorymania.htm dated Sep 2007), you'll see it lists Summer 2008 as the opening. Previews then began early May 2008.

Disney really have been very accurate on timings in recent projects - something they should be congratulated on. We havnt had a Test Track sized delay since. Other refurbs, like the Mansion and Pirates were also done exactly on time.

Nice added perspective, Steve. It's good to see the positives with the negatives when it comes to WDW. :D

They weren't entirely on point with TSM though, as they pushed back scheduled CM previews for that. Obviously not that big a deal, but it's opening wasn't perfect.

this attraction baffles me...why make an attraction with limited appeal on a fading property? Oh well, I'm more likely to see Sounds Dangerous than this. :)

It's pretty apparent that the general population of this, and other Disney fan sites are not American Idol fans, with that said - American Idol is a family show with mass appeal. Although it's numbers have declined in the past year, it is still the most watched show on television if I'm not mistaken.

I don't know exactly how this show will work, but I expect it to be quite popular. I also feel that they will learn very quickly to have the "one bad singer" in every show.
