It's a wonderful show. It's one of my favorite things to do in WDW. But it totally needs some love. It's about time. When is the last time it was refurbed?

I just told hubby that one of his fav attractions is going to be down during our upcoming trip (9/15 - 9/24). Poor guy is pouting like a six year old.

I love this attraction and try and see it multiple times a trip. I wonder what they have planned for it?

Probably just all of the deferred and long-delayed maintenance they should have been doing for the last decade, but they didn't because they never seem to close this ride for rehab at WDW.

The Disneyland version of It's Tough To Be A Bug has an annual rehab for 5 to 10 days, every year. Can you imagine such a thing?!? Annual maintenance in a Disney theme park?!? They do it in Anaheim, routinely. This year's annual rehab for ITTBAB in Anaheim was February 27th thru March 3rd, 2011. And the year before that it was October 20th thru 25th, 2010, then January 10th thru 21st of 2009, and back further it was May 12th thru 23rd of 2008, etc., etc., etc. The Disneyland version looks fresh and fantastic, and all the effects work as designed due to those annual one or two week rehabs.

The WDW version of ITTBAB hasn't had a rehab in years and years, perhaps a decade or more, and it shows. A quick Google search couldn't turn up any rehab dates for the WDW version in the last decade. On my last visit to DAK stuff wasn't working in that show, and the stuff that did worked looked creaky and very tired. It needs a lot of TLC, and since they haven't closed it for rehab in years they have a lot of catching up to do in those short six weeks.

Don't forget, at WDW.... REHABS RUIN VACATIONS!

Completely with you until the snarky comment at the end - WDW attractions do need and deserve annual rehabs too...desperately. IMHO those rehabs do need to be scheduled/published well in advance as well. While I won't say it destroyed my vacation in 07, it did hurt like hell that RnRC was suddenly scheduled for rehab a month before the vacation I'd planned a year in advance....

ETA - still also not in love with that the TTA rehab ran wayyyyy over schedule so I missed that on my last trip. Blech.

While I've always enjoyed the show, it's a rarity to see it without terrified toddlers screaming and crying. Parts of it are a bit scary for the younger kids, (Hopper, black widows etc.) so I wonder if they'll ever tone it down a notch to prevent this.

Oh no it's going to be closed our whole trip:cry:. This is a family favourite for us and one of the few things in DAK that we all do together.......

"REHABS RUIN VACATIONS" is kind of an old, inside joke on these boards. It is an excuse often trotted out why WDW can't and/or won't schedule regular maintenance refurbishments for its attractions.

What needs to happen with this 6 week rehab is that they get the ride back into shape; animatronics, effects, projections, lighting, audio, etc. And then they run it until September of 2012 and then they close it for a week and give it another tune-up rehab. Then they run it until the fall of 2013 and close it for another tune-up rehab. Then they run it until 2014 and give it a longer two-week rehab and give Hopper and the more advanced effects a full maintenance routine.

However, what will probably happen is that after the six week rehab the attraction will be operated for the rest of the decade without a rehab, until it's falling apart again by 2019 or so. :(

It's forever fascinating how WDW can schedule so very few rehabs per year (5? 8? Maybe 10?) throughout their four giant parks, and Disneyland Resort can schedule dozens of rehabs per year for just their two, tiny theme parks. :veryconfu

There are currently 9 refurbishments in progress, and there have been upwards of 10 already completed for this year. So we are up to around 20 in 2011 already. Your count is a little off.

Any reliable info on anything new coming? Or is it just a spit and shine?

Well nothing new is coming but it's definitely more than a spit and shine. Most refurbs really should be but WDW let's their attractions fall apart and never do anything about them so when they finally do something they have to do lots of work on the attraction.

Eeeek, while I understand the need for the rehab, AK is going to be downright brutal for my August trip. I guess I will only need to spend 5 hours there instead of 6 now over my 11 day trip HAHA! I wish EE could get the same treatment!

Wait a minute...they're closing a headlining attraction at DAK for a refurbishment? Did someone divide by zero?

Poopr planning on Disney's behalf. Primeval Whirl will still be closed and now we're closing It's Tough to Be a Bug too...during busy summer months? They must be insane. This drops their already small attraction count big time.

This just proves that its time for more additions to DAK and fast.

I don't think it will impact the park that much. Maybe. We've never waited more than 15-20 minutes for this attraction. That includes both a July trip and a President's weekend trip.

And the 20 minute wait was because doors were closing as we walked past the glasses.

It seems that the Primeval Whirl issue is greater than the actual ride maintenance. It may very well be linked to the investigation about the death during the refurbishment.
