LOL! I've never been one to dream about a wedding since I never thought I'd do it.... Even as a little girl, I pretended lots of things--being a bride was never one of them. I'm not "fussy" or "girly"--which makes this more difficult. I figured out what the dress I want looks like, and now I can't find one that looks like that! LOL! I hate the bridal industry and am looking to have a special day without looking like a meringue! (that means a tulle or chiffon ballroom skirt is out.... ;) )

I always thought I would get married but I didn't dream about my wedding either. When it came time to plan, I absolutely REFUSED to get stressed out. This was my big moment and I wanted to enjoy every minute of it! Buy yourself a planner, keep track of everything, and take one day at a time.

One biggie for me was that both the photographer and dj had to come from big places whre a replacement could be found in case either of them got sick, had some kind of family emergency, or some other unforseen event! I don't know if that's something you want to consider or not, because the chances of that happening are small, but still, I would not have been able to relax otherwise!

Erika, that's an excellent thought about the dj.... The chief photographer for the newspaper I write for said if I'm really going through with this, he'll shoot the wedding as my wedding gift. I love his work and wanted it done in the photojournalism style, so this is perfect! He better not get sick! LOL!

And tiggerlover, you're right--I need to relax and go with the flow. Noah already said no way to the WDW wedding, so I got him to promise we can renew our vows there someday. It made me feel like it was a small compromise! LOL!

My friend John had one and only one request for his wedding: "DO NOT PLAY THE CHICKEN DANCE AT THE RECEPTION"

I personnally heard him tell this to the DJ several times, but, about an hour into the reception, the DJ played it saying "Hey, people want to hear it, you gotta do what people want"

Moral of the story: whatever you plan will go wrong. Don't avoid planning, but be prepared to laugh it off when it doesn't go as you planned:)

Oh, now see, this is where we have a problem: I have serious control issues, and there is a whole list of things we're not doing (starting with the bouquet and garter thing--there are at last count five unmarried people invited--that's just mean! And I don't need to see my brother put a garter on Noah's sister!).

This is why there's only been wedding talk for a few weeks and I'm already losing my mind! Ack! NO Macarena.... Hmmm... perhaps we can convince the djs that gratuities are linked to their ability to follow directions.... ;)

Oh, and our first dance- What A Wonderful WOrld. It was a perfect choice for us because

1) that is one of my all-time favorite songs

and

2) It was short  John's cousin/my friend taught us some dance steps but he was so nervous to be the focus of everyone's attention. If he's not cracking jokes he would rather be in the background.

Mightyduck, I think this is turning in to a Reminiscing thread  I swear, we are not trying to steal your moment. Weddings are just so contagiously happy!

Cheryl, do you have any pictures you can share?

AWWWWW!!!!!

We had the white-on-white embossed Cinderella invitations. And I wore glass (plastic actually) slippers...and we played the Cinderella Waltz (instrumental) while the guests were seated, before the party began their hike down the aisle. And John's aunt and I designed a Cinderella cake, which she made.

It's fun to throw a few fun things here and there! Makes it all unique and personal.

Did you keep the Minnie and Mickey?

No, no! Share away! I'm scouting out new ideas! LOL!

I had already chosen the Canon in D (Noah has no idea what I'm talking about, but that's ok!), and I'm deciding on the recessional music. We're thinking about an outdoor ceremony on an oceanfront deck, so live music might be too much to juggle for the ceremony (although I do have students studying at Julliard who play harp and flute together! LOL!).

We can't agree on a first dance song--the only one Noah has suggested is Unchained Melody, which I just think is entirely too cliched. I'm making the poor boy suffer here, I know! We go to ballroom dance lessons regularly, so as soon as we decide on a song we'll have them choreograph something special... I vote for waiting until next spring to do that, so that we're more comfortable dancing together. He has rejected literally hundreds of my suggestions (I always go back to "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and "A Whole New World" and when he says no to those I suggest "Beauty and the Beast.").

Congratulations :D

Ain't it the truth! But it's cool, I'm actually enjoying it! After all, I suppose my wedding is not that far away... And it's interesting because there are a lot of different traditions between American and Brazilian weddings, by what I can see so far. In fact, if someone wants to get into those details, I'd appreciate it! :D

Oh, and by the way, Congrats, Duckie!!! :sohappy: :sohappy:

Don't worry for not being "girlie". Julia (my gf) is just like, and she never dreamt of a "girlie" wedding. Well, now she has a lot of dreams about it, like theming it to Lady and the Tramp, and I want our first music to be "La Bella Notte". I kinda influenced her, see, but things change, so you never know, it's a long time untill July.

CONGRATS!!!!!!! :sohappy: :sohappy:

I hear ya about wedding planning frustration. I married into an Italian family...I'm bred from rednecks. :D Trying to get those 2 groups to come together was pure insanity. We ended up dashing everyone's plans by announcing that we were going to go simple. I kind of regret that now, but I'll tell ya, when we made the wedding announcement, initial reaction was "oh no!" from both sides (we had only known each other 2 months  ). Then, they started planning this grand gala & we got a little scared about waiting till the year 3000 (the way they were planning it LOL). So, we called the families, 1 state away & said..."meet us New Year's Eve at the Shoney's hotel conference room in the middle of nowhere Georgia". They were none too pleased, but we actually had a GREAT time. They did insist on traditional attire & a cake, but other than that, it was nothing traditional.

Moral of the story...while you don't have to necessarily ditch the whole traditional thing, make sure the wedding is what the 2 of you want. Take it a step at a time, don't get overwhelmed & ENJOY it! The planning is the best part about the wedding & it can truly be a load of fun! Have fun with it & make it all that the 2 of you want it to be. It will be fine & it will be a wonderful memory for you both. Even if you hit a snag or 2 along the way, it will all go well & the end result will be the same. Go with the flow, cover your bases & take it easy. Again, congratulations!!!!!!!!!
