It's a Small World is scheduled to reopen about March 18.
The refurb is supposed to include the following:
>> Refurbished paint, lighting, and props. I've heard that every wall in the attraction had to be stripped because of asbestos ("It's a world of sickness/ A world of poison...") :lookaroun
>> New dolls with functioning eyes (no more stuck-eye children!)
>> A completely redesigned queue: Guests will now enter the former exit, and vice-versa.
>> A new entrance that is supposed to look like Disneyland's elaborate facade. In case you didn't know, at Disneyland, you board IaSW outside, float around a clock tower with toy soldier drummers, children, and topiaries, and finally enter the show building. WDW Imagineers wanted to replicate the Mary Blair-designed exterior at Disneyland, but Florida's weather would destroy it. Therefore, with this refurb, the inside queue is supposed to be similar to Disneyland's. Considering that the boats can't float around topiaries and flowers inside the building, the extent of the refurb, and how close it actually is to Disneyland's IaSW, remain to be seen.
>> As others put it, "A general spit-and-polish of the entire attraction."
By the way, the IaSW refurb is only the first of a new program at WDW to preserve the classic attractions.
