China doll slippers....is that part of a school uniform? I looked it up, and it looks like what I know as "Mary Janes". But I can't imagine why you would need those for school unless they were part of a uniform. So I guess I assumed you were Swiss and lived in Switzerland...from your post, I'm thinking I'm wrong. Are you American living in Europe, or Swiss living in an English speaking country?

I‘m like you 😉 - lived here for about 20 years. We called them china doll slippers when I was a kid - black canvas with a rubber sole, for indoor use. Up until a certain age here they use them for gym class. They also needed to have a pair of “regular” slippers because they don’t wear shoes in school until they reach 7th grade.

Huh, I've never heard them called China Doll Slippers, but I think mary janes are usually leather, not canvas. The canvas ones they call ballet slippers. That's interesting that they don't wear shoes in school! What about recess?

They go outside the classroom, take off their slippers and put their outside shoes on. When they come back in, they take off their shoes and put on their slippers.

And the china doll slippers are similar to ballet slippers but have a rubber sole. Ballet slippers have a leather or suede sole, don’t they?

There is an exchange student from Germany going to my son’s high school and living with our friends/son’s lacrosse teammate. At a tournament a few weeks back I was talking to him and telling him how much I love Nudel Gratin and how I have been trying out recipes etc and asked if he could get me an authentic recipe from home. He had no idea what I was talking about so I googled it to show him. He still had no idea but had these wise words for me: “well, gratin is French….”
Is Epcot lying to us???

Well, Chefs de France used to use a very popular Swiss type of cheese in their macaroni and cheese dish and I never felt like that entire entree was genuinely French LOL. Wish I could remember the name and type of cheese because it was very good.

We weren’t there to party with Aerosmith though.

It was as cheesy as I assumed it would be. The lightning McQueen is cool though. Check that off the list of things I don’t have to see agin.

There was a special PP shot(don’t giggle at that) in SWL that A wanted to do, so back across the park we went. Unfortunately there was no PPP working at the special spot. We decided it was probably time to leave.

Time for another crazy story.
A and I had our eyes on a few things that we wanted to get each other for Christmas, so we went our separate ways for a little while. I was in the Hollywood 5 and 10 about to grab a few thing when a lady RAN OVER A CM in her scooter. Note I did not say ran into her, or hit her, she straight up ran her over and possibly broke her ankle in the process. I checked on the injured CM then found another CM to let them know about their injured coworker and get some help. You think the scooter lady felt bad about what happened?
No Thank You GIF by Karen Civil

She just kept shopping and chatting with her family and driving recklessly like nothing ever happened. I get that accidents happen but my goodness, if you can’t control your scooter any better than that you shouldn’t be driving it.

We’d had more than our share of crazy crowds. It was time for a little lunch and some pool time.

I see what you did there with the reference to cheesy LOL :joyfull: And the one I was trying to think of earlier is gruyere. My cheese tangent is now complete....

I was going to reply if it wasn’t « Swiss cheese » (imagine my surprise to learn that « Swiss cheese » is actually called emment(h)al), it was probably gruyère. Those are the only two Swiss cheeses commonly found in French grocery stores and widely used in cooking in france. (A mixture of the two grated over rice makes an easy meal during cold weather)

Funny how if the situation was reversed and a CM accidentally dropped a plush on a lady's foot, she would already have sued the hell out of Disney but driving over CM's.. yeah sure no problem.. People and current levels of respect is sometimes questionable..

True ballet slippers, yes, but they used to call the ones with the rubber soles ballet slippers when I was a kid.

Wow, that is appalling! Did the woman at least stop temporarily? Did she even notice she had run over the CM? I hope the CM was ok.

People in general are pretty terrible.

She did stop. So she could back up and go around the CM since she was now inconveniently in the way. There’s no way she didn’t know she’d ran over someone. I felt really bad for the poor CM who was in tears.

The CM can pursue legal means with the negligence act of the guest who ran over her with the scooter.

I found a recipe online for scalloped potatoes made with coconut milk, gruyere, Swiss, and another kind of cheese with a bunch of herbs and OMG it was the best cheesy potato dish I've ever had! It was a huge pain in the butt to make but I would totally do it again if I could find the recipe (I forgot to bookmark or print it) 🤣 It was definitely better than the macaroni entrée at Chefs de France, which I did really enjoy.

Now I want to make cheesy pototoes 😉
