Is WDW Security Serious?

Just to reiterate that a lot of the security isn't the metal detectors that you see, here's a personal anecdote. My husband carries at home, so he normally has a holster on his side (completely concealed). I don't know if this affects his stride or what, but a security officer in plain clothes at Magic Kingdom once pulled him aside (right outside the tunnel) and asked him to lift his shirt. Of course he wasn't carrying while we were there, but something about how his clothes were hanging or how he walks made the guard suspicious enough to stop us.

This just made me realize that there are more eyes watching than what we see. All the metal detector stuff is probably a lot of "show" to keep the public feeling safer.

I just finished saying IT WAS A POSSIBLE target...it was on his list...to me, that would mean just what I said...it was a POSSIBLE target...don't you think terrorists, whether they're part of a group or a "lone wolf", have looked at Disney before? I wouldn't be a bit suprised if there hasn't been an attempt and that it is being kept under wraps so mass panic and attendance drops don't occur. For every 1 announced attempt/arrest made in NYC since 9/11, there are probably 10 or more you don't hear about, (and probably never will). If he was in DS, "scouting" it out, trust me, he wasn't there to buy Christmas ornaments...

I know it was a POSSIBLE TARGET. In your post you wrote "had it in his plans to GO to DS to continue his rampage". Using that logic, he could have "continued" his rampage at any supermarket or gas station he went to. "Continue" implies more action after an initial action. It was your word not mine. Fortunately, he was not able to continue anything after the carnage he created at the nightclub.

Honestly, I don't worry about whether or not terrorists have scoped out Disney or Universal or Sea World. Unless there is a credible threat of which the public is warned, it's the farthest thing from my mind (right after I clear TSA at the airport). It's a well known fact that the general public rarely hears about a threat that was stopped.

I don't know about your experience but I was at Epcot over the weekend and everyone without a bag had to go through the metal detectors and there were at least 10 security people including local police. No one gave me a speech other than right this way sir.

The most effective security is the type you don't see, not the security you do see. See that custodial worker sweeping the path - just might be security. See that couple riding the monorail with the Mickey t-shirts - just might be security. See the guy walking around World Showcase with the Mickey Bar ice cream - just might be security. See the woman taking photos of the castle at Magic Kingdom - just might be security. There is more that you don't see than do see. While no place is ever 100% secure, I do feel safe in WDW.

From what I read, the guy who did the Orlando shooting pushed his way pass security. That leaves me worried for something similar happening at Disney. Gee, I wonder how they could prevent that.

One of the bigger hypocrisies with WDW security in my opinion is that for a catastrophic event to place, you would not even need to get thru the gates into a secured area. There are so many people outside of the gates that a well planned event right at opening would be effective.

I fully expect the grandma on a Main Street bench to transform into Mr. Smith from The Matrix wearing mouse ears in the event of a Disney shooting.

That scare was caused by a Disney "News" site tweeting out irresponsible information. They caused a panic.
Oh come on, Twitter as a news outlet makes people like Martin Baron look like fools. Wasting all that time double or triple checking sources. If we all did that, news may take a whole day to get to the public. How could people live without the constant stream of unfiltered hogwash? Insanity I say!!!

I agree with this me and my brother went to Hollywood studios he had a bag and I went in line with him . Since I had nothing better to do I was watching how they pick random for metal detector. So I purposely waited until he picked something then walked right on in. We also went to universal and the line for metal detections is so much better I was the only one in line because they use x ray machines it speeds everything. Universal is 100x better imo
