Is this really a thing or is it April 1ST? Cabanas in the parks.

This is what you fail so greatly at understanding. Different people have different things that are important to them. A person doesn't spend money just to spend it and most don't spend it to "show off". You weigh the monetary value to the emotional or convenience value. A tent at MK has no value to me. A cabana at GF during my most important football game of the season so far- lots of practical value. Paying too much for a room so my kid can watch the monorail go above him while at the pool- emotional value that justify the cost.

People spend their money on what they choose, for their own reasons. They don't have to be inline with your reasoning, or mine.
I never said that I do not equate emotional value into experiences. Emotion, convenience, and monetary factors are all part of the overall value. You assumed I didn't and then chose to use emotional value (and my assumed lack of it) for the basis of your argument as to why "I fail so greatly". It's easy to feel you are correct when you insert falsehoods.

Your misinterpretation of this entire discussion is your weakness.

My faith in my friends is mine.

Because the tents are chosen not because they want to be cheap... but because it's flexible and fast. Disney has proven time and time again.. they will do things to meet a timeline.. and then follow up with more formal structures. Be it security tents, screening, vending, etc.
You have more faith in the current management than I do. I think if this continues beyond testing, they'll add some climate control and be done with it. As someone else pointed out, show is taking a back seat to revenue.

It's impressive that so many people fail to see the problem with some of these upcharge events lately.

The difference is many people are here just as CUSTOMERS of Disney. They are here to find out about the latest products and offerings and compare notes with others in what is good, or bad. Many use the online world to help get their Disney fix by looking at, chatting about, and simply immersing part of their day in Disney topics.

These are the folks that will say 'it doesnt impact me...' or 'why are focusing on something that just upsets you', etc etc. Because they are primarily driven by motivators as CUSTOMERS... they have less interest in topics that don't directly impact things they are looking to interact directly with.

The other group are people that are not only interested in Disney as customers... but interested in (to put it simply..) the ART OF DISNEY. As in, what made or makes Disney... Disney? What is it about XYZ that makes it work so well? Or be so different from other efforts? That means the trade of imagineering... the business philosophies of the leadership that steered their choices... how they develop concepts.. how they market.. how they address customer service.. etc. This is an interest in the development, business strategies, and 'science' of an entertainment business.. and most specifically a THEME PARK business.

Clearly how a CUSTOMER would study a topic like... the styling of a structure... would be very different than someone who is interested in the how/why/execution of that structure.

The problem in forums like these is these audiences are generally intermixed... and people frequently fail to separate their OWN focus and boundaries of interest when interacting with others. Thus we end up with the 'why do you care about that...' situation you see happening in this thread.

Many CUSTOMERS are simply saying "I think the offer stinks, not for me..." and they think its done
Others, who are interested in the strategies, design, and other elements try to discuss what this offer means and the conversation goes beyond 'would I use it?' 'does it impact my next vacation?'.
Then you have some who just don't understand the difference and why both are important and cause friction because they interject the wrong stuff in the wrong conversation.

What about obsessing about other people's obsessions?

In these kind of threads I always post too much. It makes me so sad that we now have a mindset of people who's thought process is this-

"I don't want it so you can't have it."

It's pitiful, it's selfish, it's scary.

I'm resigning from this thread now. Off to Epcot 2 hours later than planned.. nearing the end of our stay :(

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Yes. I'm sitting here at the overpriced GF, drinking my overpriced mimosa, watching my child go down a slide about 20 more times before we head to overpriced Epcot for an overpriced CP dining package, and overpriced snacks around the world. We'll probably also purchase some overpriced souvenirs. :)
This person has no disposable income folks.

I think you're missing the distinction. Many of us don't care one whit that things are offered that don't take away in some way what we experience int the parks. It's where the presence of these events affects the rest of us that I draw the line.

Wanna get a VIP tour guide? Have fun.
Wanna do Villains Unleashed? Go crazy.
Wanna do a high priced tour at AK? Enjoy!
Wanna plop a tent city into Tomorrowland? No, it doesn't impact the attractions, but WDW is about themed lands. And the tents impact my enjoyment of that fantasy world. So no, I'm not a fan.
Wanna take an attraction offline for several hours? That's a problem.
Wanna keep eating up more and more available viewing space for parades and fireworks (like the train station)? That's a problem.

Disney used to focus on improving the offerings and experiences for guests as part of a general admission ticket. Most of their recent efforts at making a vacation more unique and enjoyable focus on upcharges and a la carte pricing. Some of us see this trend and are concerned in how it will affect our love for the parks. The concern shouldn't be a target of criticism. It should be discussed. Especially since we are all on this forum because of our admiration of the past the company constructed.

Exactly - WDW is being run by a retail guy and as a result WDW is more and more resembling a mall with a cover charge since the experience is no longer the goal only revenue per square foot.

Nah, you are just a poor. Jealous of the rich in their car canopies.

Says the person who is currently AT Disney World, yet logging in here to defend their position.
And yet another complete sentence that means absolutely nothing but worded as if it is a sword piercing the heart. There is absolutely no substance to the statement. It means nothing, yet there will be some sitting there nodding their heads up and down in agreement just as if something was just said.

On the latest premium episode of Disney Dish w/@lentesta they discuss these. Confirm it's a test and the tents may appear elsewhere with Epcot likely next. They also mention permanent cabanas above Tomorrowland Terrace and as part of Star Wars Experience.

You seem to have a lot to say about me saying nothing.

These rent-a-party-tent "cabanas" are worse show than any offering I have ever seen at a Six Flags park. Totally ghetto. And I am stunned that so many have no problem with it.

It's REALLY, REALLY, REALLY bad show.

Theses specific tents are horrible.
Future themed structures out of the way are OK with me.

But I know there's many that would hate them either way.

That is ridiculous. Wearing a tacky shirt, necklace or earrings, with a giant double C on them is trying to show off. Things like renting a cabana are for practicality. Just bc something doesn't make sense to you doesn't mean it won't make sense to others.

These tents don't make sense for me. They could make sense for someone standing next to me. Neither one of us are right or wrong.
You and I have differing notions about the definition of showing off. Now to me, mentioning that you are staying at the GF where you rented a cabana to watch a football game is showing off or bragging. I guess everyone has their own definitions. Kind of like the term "disposable income"
