Is this really a thing or is it April 1ST? Cabanas in the parks.

Road past them on the Peoplemover today. They aren't a pretty sight. I hope this test fails miserably. But if they do succeed, I hope the permanent structures are themed well to wherever they go. Heck, that would likely help drive sales for them.
Can you post a pic? Maybe I saw them and didn't pay attention, but would you have to be looking at them to notice? Seriously I'm now going over the day in my mind.. I can't remember seeing them.

I didn't grab a pic. Knowing some folks here, I assumed we'd already have an angry, narrated POV video up here by now lol.

Two of them stood out to me clearly, and I wasn't looking for them. I had actually forgotten about them until we road by. The other two that I could see appeared further back behind some of those shrub carts they wheel in front of things. (You can see what I'm talking about via that Blog Mickey link earlier)

They were quite visible as we walked from CoP to SM. They're just past the bathrooms.

I hate them in their current state.
If they eventually get a permanent, themed and less intrusive structure, I won't mind them at all.
Will I ever rent one? Not a chance.

Same here. I will never rent one...but I understand the reasoning behind them...and I'm sure they fit certain families or groups, but not mine.
We did CoP and then walked to the Space Mountain store so I could buy the portable charger..but I didn't have cash or cards on me so that was a failed mission :( My phone died 2 hours before we left the park. Anyway, maybe I didn't notice them bc I was frantically headed to that shop. SM is our first FP Tuesday evening, I'll try to remember to look for them this time.

At the MK, they fell apart"

Six hundred fifty or what's already free
You see, you don't have to live like a refugee
No baby, when CoP will let you get a little sleep"

Apologies to B.M. and T.P.

I have seen CoP more times than I can count.. was always a favorite of mine even as a child. Watching it today all I could think of was "Holy cow this is one sexist piece of work!"

I'm so glad times are different now!!!

Ok sorry for the diversion, now back to regularly schedule programming of bashing anyone with more money to spend than what "you" (not you) have.

Mother doing a basement renovation on her own seems forward-thinking for the time. But the rest? Yep, ha.

Glad you said this. It's so great to have strong women in the workplace these days. Like yourself. What do you do, if you don't mind me asking?

I think we need to sit back and give TDO some time to get this right. Personally I think they are just waiting for the next FEMA trailer auction to acquire semi permanent structures at a good price.

Profit at worst is a strong 2nd to them (if things get more Presseresqe Profit would trump Safety as well)...

Currently the keys are Efficiency, Profit, Safety andCourtesy, The goal of course is Profit, Efficiency, Share Price and Safety.

You might notice Show is nowhere in the keys any longer that went out with the old dead guy walt and they had to leave Safety there to please legal, Courtesy as a key is also out because it's more expensive to hire courteous employees.

But they had the Ft Wilderness trailers which they sold off to some place in the midwest....

Can much of these "up-charge additions" be the result of the lack of sponsorship? While these cabanas are "private" this type of thing isn't new. It seemed in the hay-day every large cooperation had a lounge somewhere at WDW. These getaways were really fantastic spaces to take a moment to catch your breath.

In this sense, I can see these cabanas being a great experience for many families that can afford it. Hopefully very shortly they will find better location much like all the old lounges tucked into various attractions.

"What you can buy for $700 instead of a Magic Kingdom cabana"
Way to go, Orlando Sentinel.
(edit) If you can't view the link, here is what is listed:
  • One night at the Bay Lake Towers, with a 'Theme Park View'- $604.17
  • Seven individuals could participate in the Keys to the Kingdom tour, that runs at $99 per person
  • Four people could dine at Victoria & Albert's for $740
  • You could visit the Senses Day Spa and receive the Berry Bliss Facial ($145), the Rose Renewal Facial ($150), the Senses Signature Facial ($235) and the Refined Gentlemen's Facial ($135) and toss in two spray tans ($55 each) for a total of $635
  • Rent a holiday sleigh at Fort Wilderness for $79. Do it for eight days.
  • The Disney Platinum Plus Pass, which currently gets you 13 months of theme parking for the price of 12 without blockout dates, is listed for $729
  • At SeaWorld Orlando, two people can sign up for a Private VIP Tour for just under $600. They'll get a walking guided tour, feed sea lions, eat at Sharks (the restaurant, not the sea life) and have SeaWorld admission plus other extras
  • At Universal Orlando, Halloween Horror Nights devotees this year could buy the Ultimate Frequent Fear Pass with Express for $599. That got them front-of-line access to the haunted houses and admission for all of the 31-date event
  • Universal-goers could get a three-day ticket with park-to-park-to-park powers for Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and the under-construction Volcano Bay water park for $295 apiece, meaning a couple would pay $590.
  • 164 Mickey Bars- $700
