Is there a "bad" WDW resort?

While planning our next vacation, I realized that I've liked (in different ways) every WDW resort I've stayed at. I'm not talking about a bad experience: poor mouse keeping, loud children at 1 AM, a grumpy CM. These happen at every resort. I mean objective things about the resort you don't like. For example, my DW doesn't like CSR (buildings too spread out, pool too far from the main lobby, and food court didn't have much variety). They only way she'd stay there again is if it offered a super deep discount.

Offsite is a different matter. There have been plenty of hotels or rentals that we've stayed at that we would never do again.

Does WDW have a "bad" resort that you'd tell people to stay away from?

It's all a matter of opinion. While most people love YC/BC DH and I did not. Our room was the last in the wing, so it was a LONG walk to any kind of food/drink. For the $ we paid we expected some convienence, which for food and drink was not. & I'm prob one of the only people on the planet that didn't care for the pool.

I have stayed at all levels. Growing up I was spoiled with a number of deluxe and moderates; as an adult I have stayed at some values. I think each hotel is good in its own way. I'm not a huge fan of the over the top theming of the values, but I'm pushing to stay in AoA on our next trip just so we can get some on park time.

When our children were young, they loved the over-the-top theming of the Value Resorts. They also enjoyed the food courts. Now that they are teenagers, they've developed champagne tastes (especially our twin 14-year-old daughters)!

I would say no. There are some resorts that are better than others and every resort category seems to have a particular resort that either does not measure up to the rest or just has a few too many logistical problems for some. As you mentioned, CSR is a great example of this. I have a few clients that love the place but most simply do not like the set up and will only stay there as a last resort. All Star Sports is another due to sports teams being frequently booked there as well as AKL due to its location. Every resort has its own list of pros and cons and different people will have a different reaction to said list. That being said, there is not a single resort on property that I would not stay at. I have stayed at nearly every one and all come with a good level of Disney quality and that is what is most important to me.

They are all well-themed, clean, and well-maintained. The same might be said about several non-Disney hotels in the area, but none of them provide a constant Disney atmosphere, while also providing a close proximity to the parks. I have yet to stay at a dud.

I would also say no, there is no "bad" resort at Disney. There are pros and cons to each resort, and ultimately there might be some resorts that would better suit some guests and not others, based on their needs. But I've never hesitated booking myself or my clients in any Disney resort.

I have to agree with other posters. It all comes down to personal preference/budget/etc. I have my favorite resorts and not-so-favorites, but also depends which park you feel you will visit most, and if being close to that park is important. Like Master Yoda said, all resorts come with a good level of Disney quality, and that really is the most important. Best of luck planning your upcoming vacation!

I agree. I think it usually comes down to personal preference really. While someone may hate one resort for some reason, the same reason is why someone else loves it. I also think it comes down to what stage you and your family are in. For example. I know a lot of people don't like SSR because of the proximity to things. The pools, the theme the fact it doesn't seem as 'magical' to some. But last year we stayed there and my son was 2 and a half. And we loved the new pool they had, he loved it, and couldn't get enough of it. And while that theme and the proximity didn't fit for everyone, it allowed for us to have the perfect amount of quiet and down time for him...it was what we needed at the time. Three years from now we may be saying something entirely different...But from what I have found its all up to you and what you think. Personally I have not found one I absolutely hate and don't think you can go wrong with any of them really.

Value is all we have ever stayed and we have enjoyed every stay. That being said, the All Stars have the bus route that is required to stop at all the "stars" before continuing on to a park and POP and AoA have their own seperate bus route which is a big plus when the buses are packed and you are on your way back for the night and you have to unload once compared to 3 times.

I love por but I'm not a fan of the rat
Problem they have!! We have seen rats right up by the doors of rooms and on the sidewalks in riverside!! I think they need to set more traps!! Also at the pop right by the bar I saw the same rat at least 2 times a day running up and down trees and in and out of the bushes!! I asked why they can't catch it to the bartender and she said that they just hadn't gotten around to putting more traps out yet!!

I have stayed at several. AllStar Movies was cute, but when we went (early Dec. 2006) it was the last to pick up on the bus line. It stopped at the other to AllStars first. By the time it got to us, the bus was full, which was a pain, since our dad was in a wheelchair. We have stayed at Caribbean, Coronado, Treehouse, Port Orleans Riverside, AllStar Movies, & AllStar Sports. The Treehouses have been our favorite so far.

They put the traps out when they run out of "chicken" nuggets to serve at the food court.

I love the "champagne tastes" comment! it's true as an adult too. Once you stay @ a deluxe, you really never want to go back to value! I am spoiled!:D

Really? I have stayed there several times, and I have only seen fish, squirrels, ducks, normal gnats and such, tree debris in the pool, frogs, lizards, turtles, but never any rats!
