Is the Universe of Energy from the 90s the most accepted change in Future World?

I always hear complaints about the changes in the rides at Epcot and sometimes I will complain myself. I have never heard anything about Universe of Energy. To be honest I do miss the absence of the klydescope ending but the hosting and the old screen shows seemed kind of dull to me. I can see people rejecting Ellen and Billnye but to me there is nothing wrong with a good laugh. At least it isn't Wally hosting it or some other kitty character (knock on wood). The films could use a little update with the same script.

I complain about it plenty....no one cares of course, but I complain none the less.

Ellen stinks on ice. She ruined Universe Of Energy and she's ruined American Idol.

Considering I hate American Idol and love EEA, it is in my opinion one of the better changes to a pavilion in Epcot. (also considering that the original show was far too text-booky)

IMHO? The pavilion is wasted now with the drive-in movie feel. The original made so mcuh more use of the space, as I`ve explained before.

I don't know, I love Ellen and Bill Nye. I agree that the show could use some updating, but if it were with different people, it just wouldn't be the same for us and we probably wouldn't make it a point to ride it every trip.

:shrug:I'm in the minority here but I hated the old version. Granted, I only went on it once or twice as a VERY young child, but I hated it (Sorry, Martin!). Ellen's version is the one I remember the most as a kid, and still love today. I love the stupid little corny jokes and, of course, "Stupid Judy." Bill Nye was the man back in the day too, and he's still relevant, I think, especially with the dawning of his shows on DVD for school science classes and what not.

I'm for the change, but if they changed it now in favor of other people, I would be OK with it probably, as long as they didn't Cartoonify it (a la Living Seas).

 No but when it feels like you are in a classroom and not a theme park ride something's wrong.

I think it was a perfect mix, and it made the actual ride portion much more mysterious and powerful. Now it's just a joke.

Same goes for The Living Seas, ruined now too by cartoons and dumbing down.

As an educator, I agree with Jason... Learning as one is entertained is preferred by most. Make it fun and they will learn!

I honestly don't recall the older version but my family always enjoys at least one ride every trip on UoE in its current form. I'd say its probably the last redo in FW that still made an attempt at keeping Epcot's original theme and intent of learning/understanding alive.

I never saw UoE 1.0, but I really like the current version. I think it's a nice mix of whimsy and genuine information. Of course, Ellen cracks me up, so that probably helps. People who don't like her will just be annoyed.

I don't think it's at all fair to say that UoE was dumbed down...at least not in any way that's comparable to other parts of the park. There's still real information in that ride.

The Old version of UOE closed down when I was in about 4th grade, but I remember being incredibly bored by it as a child. I only went on it for the dinosaurs, and the rest put me to sleep. I'm not a big Ellen fan, but I enjoy the attempted humor and lighter feel of EEA.

I wish I had a better memory of the original UOE, because maybe I would like it as an adult! I'll look for some old ride videos

For the record, I also miss the Living Seas. The hydrolaters were a bit cheesy, but overall "Seabase Alpha" had a really neat atmosphere.

When I first rode it, we were on the energy unit in school. My parents kinda let me ditch school to go to WDW. WhileI was gone, there was a test on the different types of evergy and I didnt study. I got back home and took the test and got a 98 while everyone else failed. That's why I LOVE that ride.

Both versions IMO have strengths and weaknesses, but I'd choose the newer version because it's narration isn't so darn dry and monotonous.

45 minutes is alot to sit through for any kind of presentation and no amount of dinosaurs, musical moments and in theatre effects can save an onslaught of dictation that's incredibly easy to tune out and forget.

Plus those gold curtains looked hideous. :dazzle:
