Man, I was at least hoping that it would reappear outside the gate or near the Fantasmic! stage.

Clearly, the Sponsors only wanted to pay to get the hat out from the front of the Theatre.. And Disney is too cheap to pay for the transfer and reassembly.

Didn't say it was. The conceptual plan was for it to a focal point.

The castle made it possible to make the cartoon seem real and ended up being the focus in crane camera shots at the opening of the park and took the focus off the matterhorn.

I agree, I don't think TCM had much to do with the hat's removal. It was going to happen with or without TCM being involved.

I mean..They never wanted to remove that thing for a decade.
Then TCM sponsored the Movie ride and suddenly the hat is disappearing faster than Disney's cash used on stocksbuybacks.

I think Don Draper does it justice.

Hell, it was pretty much socially unacceptable to be out in public without one for three decades. The fedora hate is a relatively recent thing because they got adopted by hipsters.

TCM had nothing to do with this. The removal has been in the planning for over a year.
